Assembly elections in Manipur sate are likely to be held in February-March 2027. BJP’s Yumnam Khemchand Singh is the current chief minister of the state. Since last 3 yeas Manipur state is struggling with ethnic violence and mistrust between the two communities. The violence begin on 3rd of May 2023 after a tribal solidarity march protesting the High court order directing the state government to consider including the dominant Meitei community in the Schedule Tribe (ST) list in the state. After violent incidents the High court changed its order in February 2024 but the mistrust between the two community is so deep that they have almost boycotted each other socially at many places. As per the oath taking horoscope of chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh he is not likely to get re-elected in the state.
The chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh took oath of his office on Wednesday, Atigandha Yoga, Vishti Karana and Purva Phalguni Nakshtra.
