‘Param Vir Chakra’ is India’s highest military award which is awarded for displaying distinguished acts of valor during wartime. As of January 2018, this highest military decoration has been awarded 21 times to Indian soldier’s out of which 20 were from Indian Army and one from the Air force. In this write-up we will discussing the two horoscopes of ‘Param Vir Chkara’ awardees who were posthumously recipient of this gallantry award. The flying officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon is the only member of the Indian Air force till day to have won the hightest gallantry award ‘Param Vir Chakra’. He was posthumously awarded India’s highest military honor for saving the Sri Nagar Airport single-handedly in his lone fight against 6 Pakistani fighter Jet’s attack on 14th of December 1971.

Great Act of Valor by Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon
On the morning of 14th of December 1971, the 6 Saber US made F-86 Fighter Jet’s from Pakistan entered the Indian air space to destroy the Sri Nagar Air port. The moment they starting bombing the Sri Nagar Air base the Flying officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon jumped into his Folland Gnat fighter plane. His senior Flight Lieutenant BS Ghumman’s plan had lost visual contact due to heavy fog , thus it was Sekhon who was left alone in the Sky in his Gnat jet to fight 6 Pakistani Saber jet’s. In the classical dogfight in the Sky Sekhon hit two Pakistani Saber jet before his own aircraft caught fire in the bullet attack of enemy. The experience Pakistani air squad led by Wing Commander Sharbat Ali Changazi had to run away after aborting their operation due to the exceptional courage shown by Niraml Jit Singh Sekhon. Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal of the Indian Army created history through unparalleled sacrifice and dedication at the age of just 21—a legacy that senior army officers still cite as an example to the youth today. Having joined the Army’s 17 Poona Horse Regiment as a young officer merely six months before the Indo-Pak War of December 1971, Arun Khetarpal, alongside his comrades, destroyed ten Pakistani Army tanks. Details regarding the birth of this immortal martyr—born on October 14, 1950, at 2:15 PM in Pune, Maharashtra—were released by the Pune municipal authorities fifty years after his martyrdom.

Despite his own tank catching fire, he continued to fight until the very end; by sacrificing his life, he became an everlasting source of inspiration for young military officers.
