Horoscopes of Two “Param Vir Chakra” Awardee

August 18, 2026 By Sachin Malhotra

‘Param Vir Chakra’ is India’s highest military award  which is awarded for displaying distinguished acts of valor during wartime. As of January 2018, this highest military decoration has been awarded 21 times  to Indian soldier’s out of which 20 were  from  Indian  Army and one from the Air force. In this  write-up we will discussing the two  horoscopes of ‘Param Vir Chkara’ awardees who were posthumously recipient of  this  gallantry  award. The first horoscope we will take of the Flying officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon who’s data was obtained from February 1973 issue of ‘The Astrological Magazine’.  The second horoscope is  of  ‘Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal who’s  birth  records were  released by  his birth place  Pune’s Municipal Corporation after 50 years of his sacrificing life for his nation. Before we study the birth charts of these great patriots , let’s see  some  of  the astrological yoga’s for a successful career in armed forces.

The ‘Prashna Marga’ , a text on Hindu astrology, identifies the role of a ‘Senapati’ (military commander or officer) as a career path associated with the third house of the birth chart. To become a high-ranking military officer, it is essential for the third house (representing valor/initiative), the sixth house (capacity for struggle/combat), and the tenth house (career and great fame) to be strong. A connection in the chart between Mars—the significant for military service—and the Ascendant, or the third, sixth, and/or tenth houses, provides the individual with an opportunity to pursue a military career.
For the Army, strength in the Saturn-Mars combination, as well as in the Fire element signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) and Earth element signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), is mandatory. For the Air Force, strength is required in the ‘Ether’ (Aaksha) element planets—Jupiter and Ketu—along with Rahu (associated with aeronautical engineering) and the Air element signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius). A career in the Navy is assessed based on the strength of the Moon and Mars, alongside the Water element signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces), within the birth chart.
According to Jaimini astrology, the influence of Rahu or Mars on the ‘Karakamsha Lagna’ (Navamsha  of  Atamakaraka  in Rashi Chart)  makes an individual skilled in the use of weaponry. The influence of Mercury or Saturn on the ‘Karakamsha Lagna’  or the tenth house from it brings great fame.

The flying officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon is the only member of the Indian Air force till day to have won the hightest gallantry award ‘Param Vir Chakra’. He was posthumously awarded India’s highest military honor for saving the Sri Nagar Airport single-handedly in his lone fight against 6 Pakistani fighter Jet’s attack on 14th of December 1971.
