Astrology and your Education Prospects

June 6, 2016 By Sachin Malhotra

In ancient India education had a deep ecstatic meaning unlike in the modern times when it is creating people with highly competitive attitude and unloving nature.  Education in earlier times was not merely for the purpose of earning a livelihood but  it was for attaining  a deep insight into living itself. But now  a days the  whole effort of modern education is to be an achiever of money, name and fame which ultimately destroy the joy of learning for many students. In these circumstances an  astrological guidance can be very helpful for the purpose of education counselling and judging the aptitude of a student on the basis of his horoscope.

In Vedic astrology education is seen from the 2nd and 5th house in a horoscope. “यंत्रमंत्रो तथा विद्या बुद्धिश्राव्वे प्रबन्धका: ” is what Sage Parashara has said in the chapter 14 of his Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. As per this Sanskrit stanza the 5th house is seen for instrument, mantra and education. It is the house of intellect and management skills also.

The Sage Parashara has made it clear that education has to be judge from the 5th house only. However, in some astrological combinations the Parashara and Jaimini Rishi’s has taken the 2nd house from Karakamsha lagna for the education.

These astrological texts of Parashara and Jaimini were written thousands of years ago when there were very few numbers of subjects were on offered to the students for learning. In these classical texts the astrological combinations for learning mathematics, law, statistics, yoga, use of weapons, medicines, chemicals etc. have been given. But now a days a student have the choice of hundred of subjects or courses to choose as per his interest and inclination.

Modern legendary astrologer Shri K.N. Rao have done a great research in the area of forecasting education from the horoscope of a native. In the book “Planets and Education” written under his guidance a list of astrological parameters have been given to judge the education on the basis of planetary combinations in a horoscope.

As per the modern methods of astrology the following points are to be seen for judging the education in a horoscope.

Mark the technical and non-technical  signs first.

Technical Signs:- All fiery signs (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) , Signs of Mercury and Saturn i.e. Gemini, Virgo, Capricorn and Aquarius.

Non-Technical Signs:- All watery signs ( Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) and the signs of Venus ( Taurus and Libra).

The different planets gives different subjects of studies as per their disposition in technical or non-technical signs and the influences of other planets on them.

Sun: When the Sun is under the influences of benefice planets then it gives the study of political science and public administration. Sun under with the Mercury and Mars in technical sign gives study of statistics. If there are influences of Mars and Saturn on the Sun then it gives engineering in the subjects like electrical.

Moon: As per Hindu mythology and astrological text Moon rules over medicinal plants, medicines, music, fine arts etc. The Moon placed in sign Scorpio under the influences of malefic planets gives the education of medical sciences. Moon in watery sign under malefic influences gives the study of medicines.  As per sage Jaimini the Moon and Venus in the Karakamsha makes one a chemist creating drugs. The Moon in Karakamsha under the aspect of Mercury makes one a medical practitioner.

But when the Moon comes under benefic influences in non-technical signs then person study the subject related with humanities and have inclination towards music and fine arts. The role of Moon is very important to decide the inclination of a native to study in a particular area or areas. The more number of planets influencing Moon or the 5th from it can give a native an education in diverse fields.

Mars:  The Mars is fiery in nature and it is the karaka of logic as per Hindu astrology. The Mars in association with Saturn and Jupiter gives study of law. But when Mars comes under the influence of hard malefic planets then it gives study of engineering.

As per Jataka Tattva the Mars-Mercury communication makes one a good wrestler or a good entertainer.

Mercury: The planet Mercury signifies commerce, mathematics and literary skills. Mercury place in non-technical sign under benefic influence gives education in fine arts, writing, journalism, mass communication, sculpture design etc. Mercury specially signifies commerce related subjects when the combination of 2nd, 5th and 7th houses/lords is present in the chart.

Mercury when comes under the influences of Sun and Mars it gives education in mathematics. Under the influences of planets like Ketu, Mars and/or Sun in the technical sign the Mercury gives studies of engineering subjects like computer science, telecommunication and electronics. The 5th house from Mercury is specifically study to see the prospects of education as Mercury is the Karaka for education in astrology.

Jupiter: As the karaka  of wisdom the Jupiter gives education in holistic studies, Yoga, Vedanta, Ayurveda,  naturopathy, history, philosophy, scriptures , religious rites etc. when it is under benefic influences or devoid of any external influences. But when Jupiter comes under the influences of Mars and Saturn it gives education in law.

The Jupiter is also the karaka of Jeeva or living beings. It also gives study of bio-technology when it is under the influences of malefic planets and watery sign are strong in the chart. The Jupiter also signifies management. Its strong influence on the 10th house also gives the inclination to study management related subjects.

Venus: The Venus is the lord of 64 art forms as per Hindu mythologies. A strong Venus without any external influences gives a person the knowledge of so many fine arts like music, dancing, painting etc. Venus with benefic planets like Moon, Mercury and Jupiter gives the study of humanities and fine arts.

Venus also gives study of medicines if it is associated with Moon and/or Mercury. As per Jataka Tattva the Venus, Moon and Mercury giving aspect to the Karakamsha or the 2nd from it make one a medical practitioner. If the Venus and Moon are giving aspect to the Karakamsha lagan then also a person can practice in medical field.

A strong Venus in malefic influences connecting with the 5th house gives study of web designing and multimedia.

Venus under the influence of Saturn in technical signs gives the study of geography. Venus when come under the influence of Jupiter gives hotel management.

Saturn: A strong Saturn under benefic influences or devoid of any external influences gives the study of subjects like history and law. Saturn in association with Mars in technical signs gives the study of mechanical engineering. The Saturn in relation with Moon in watery sign gives inclination to study chemical engineering.

Rahu and Ketu : The Rahu and Ketu are shadow planets as they behave like the planets associated with them or giving them aspect. As per the sage Jaimini a strong Rahu in the Karakamsha or in 2nd house from it makes a native an expert in war skills, dealing with poisonous drugs, building iron and steel machinery. As per Jataka Tattva the Rahu with Sun in the Karakamsha under influences of both malefic and benefic planets gives study of medicines.

As per the modern astrological researches the Rahu also signifies foreign trade , aeronautics and airlines related work. The Ketu gives foreign language when it is associated with 3rd or 5th house and/or their lords along with some benefic influence.

May 27, 2016 By Sachin Malhotra

In modern urban society   people are becoming more and more  career conscious and choosy about marriage. Due to this sometimes they become overage for marriage or relationship. In many cases the marriage is delayed due to some other reasons like lack of financial stability, illness, badly located house  or because of some family troubles etc. In such situations an astrologer should be smart  in understanding the changing patters of modern civil society and he must be an apt person in doing marriage or relationship  counselling for his/her  client so that they can be helped out  to overcome a possible depression. Delay marriage may cause extreme level of  depression, loneliness  and sensual frustrations in some cases.

In this article i will discuss about some of the classical astrological combinations of Vedic astrology texts which shows delay marriage in a horoscope. One must remember that these principals must be used with through analysis of running dashas in a horoscope.

Parashari yogas for delay marriage

  1. Saturn giving aspect to the 7th house and/or 7th lord has been found giving delay in marriage in majority of the cases. Saturn is the slow moving planet and if it become retrograde and aspects the 7th house or its lord then it can cause a very painful delay in marriage which frustrate the person in most enigmatic manner.
  2. Malefic planets in Kendra (Square) positions in Rashi and Navamsha charts shows delay  in marriage. If the Kendra houses are devoid of  any benefic planet in both Rashi and Navamsha then it causes delay in marriage.
  3. If the 7th lord is weak and placed in the 6th , 8th or 12th house or it is in its sign of debilitation then it destroy marital happiness. {Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra}
  4. As per saga Parashara the Moon in the 7th house and badly place 7th lord and Venus gives lack of happiness from spouse. {I have observed this in so many horoscopes that a waning  Moon in the 7th house gives delay in marriage. It also makes a person very sensual, tender and erotic}
  5. A close conjunction of Venus-Saturn, Venus-Mercury and Moon-Saturn also gives delay in marriage.
  6. It has also been observed that opposition of Venus-Saturn and Saturn-Moon also gives delay in marriage.
  7. If the 7th house from Moon has Mars, Saturn and Venus then it shows delay or denial of marriage. {Jataka Tattva}
  8. If the 7th house from Venus has malefic planets then it also gives delay or denial of marriage. {Jataka Tattva}
  9. The Mangal Dosha or Kunja Dosha is also a combination of delay in marriage if other factors are also not good. The Mars place in the 4th , 7th, 8th or 12th house causes the Mangal Dosha or Kuja Dosha. {A person with Mangal Dosha in his natal chart is called Manglik. In modern society it has been found that girls having this dosha in their chart find lots of difficulties to find a suitable match for themselves.}
  10. Sometimes Sanyasa Yoga or Pravrajya Yoga’s in a horoscope also shows denial or delay in marriage. These yogas gives lack of interest in marriage and due to it gives extreme delay in marriage.
  11. The depositor of Moon i.e. the lord of Chandra lagna under the aspect of Saturn gives delay in marriage or lack of interest in marriage as it is a Sanyasa Yoga as per Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra.
  12. The 7th lord in its own Nakshatra or asterism  gives delay or denial of marriage as per Sarvatha Chintamani.
  13. As per Brihat Jatak if the Sun and Moon are in the 7th house under the aspect of Saturn also shows lack of happiness from marriage or relationship.
  14. If the 7th house or its lord and/or Venus are sandwiched between malefic planets then it gives extreme delay in marriage.
  15. If Venus is in the Rashi or Navamsha of Saturn or Venus and Saturn have Navamsha exchange then this yoga cause delay in marriage and unusual sexual behaviors in a native. {Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and Brihat Jataka}
  16. The 12th house is the house of bed comfort and if it gets afflicted by malefic planets then it shows delay or denial or marriage.
  17. Sun in the 7th house under the aspect of a malefic planets gives lack of happiness from marriage or relationship is a tested classical principal.
  18. As per Jataka Tattva the Sun-Venus conjunction in the 5th , 7th or 9th house also shows lack of happiness from spouse.

Jamini Yoga’s for delay in Marriage

(i) The close degree conjunction of Darakaraka and Ganatikaraka shows delay or troubles in marriage and relationships.

(ii) The Saturn place in the 7th house from Karakamsha lagan gives infatuation towards getting into relationship with older age person.

(iii) If the second house from Upapada sign has a malefic planet or malefic aspect, the native loses his/her spouse or take renunciation. { Jaimini Sutra , Chapter I Quarter  IV}

(iv) A debilitated planet in the  2nd house from Upapada also gives loss of spouse in marriage or trouble in relationships.

(v) If malefic planets  are associated with 7th from Upapada, the seventh from Navamsha or 7th from Karakamsha lagna then the native is deprived of marital happiness or suffer trouble in relationships.

The above yogas will be helpful for astrologers interested in doing marriage or relationship counselling, love astrology and/or match making of horoscopes.

Rajyoga’s in Jaimini Astrology

May 25, 2016 By Sachin Malhotra

In Jaimini astrology the reckoning of Rajyoga’s is bit different from the Parashari system. Interestingly most of the astrologers  perceive the Jamini and Parashari as two entirely different  systems of Vedic astrology whereas in reality they both compliment with each other. You can take any available version of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra from the market and you will find that Jaimini yogas have been in fusion with Parashari yogas in many of the chapters. In the Raja Yoga Adhayaa of Parashara Hora Shastra one may find Jaimini Raja Yogas written along with Parashari Raja Yogas in so many maxims. In-fact the various Rashi dashas, Navamsha dashas, Arudha lagna etc. are comprehensively explained in the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra.

According to some scholar the Parashara Hora Shastra is a compilation of all the astrological knowledge available and had been updated by many savants of astrology in the course of centuries. This may not be true but one thing is absolutely certain that Jaimini is not a separate branch or system of astrology but it is an integral part of the most necessary astrological techniques required to judge a horoscope in Vedic astrology.

In this article i will be discussing about Jaimini Raj Yogas. The Raja Yogas in Jaimini are given in the chapter number 25th of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. In the Jaimini Sutram the Sage Jaimini has discuss various Raja Yogas in Chapter I, Quarter III. I am referring here one of the oldest translations of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and Jaimini Sutras respectively.

The Parashara Hora Shastra published from Venkateshwara Press Mumbai is the oldest available translation of this book. The Jaimini Sutras by Professor B.Suryanarain Rao is the oldest available English commentary of this work.

Let’s first see some of the Jaimini Raja Yoga’s given in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra in Chapter number 25.

  1. As per Parashara the Janama lagan and Karakamsha lagan are prominently seen for the Raja Yoga’s. The Atamakaraka and the 5th lord (Panchmesha) are most important in this reckoning.
  2. The lagan and 5th lord are exalted or strongly place then they also give Raja Yoga. If the Atamakaraka and Putrakaraka are associated with the lagna and/or fifth house then it is also a Raja Yoga.
  3. If the lagan and 7th lord are strongly place in the lagan and/or 7th house then it is a Raja Yoga. If they are associated with Atamakaraka and Putrakaraka then it is a very good Raja Yoga.
  4. The 9th lord and Atamakaraka are strongly place in the lagna, 5th house, and/or 7th house then it is a good Raja Yoga.
  5. The benefic planets place in the 2nd, 4th and 5th house from Atamakaraka is a Raja Yoga.
  6. The malefic planets place in the 3rd and 6th house then the native born in royal family become King. {Notice here the Saga has put a precondition for this Raja Yoga that native must be born in a royal family for the fulfillment  of this yoga}
  7. The benefic planets place from the 2nd , 4th and 5th house from the lagna lord and 7th lord make one King.
  8. If the Putrakaraka is Venus (Shukra) and it is conjoined or under aspect by waxing Moon then it is a Raja Yoga.
  9. A strong planet giving aspect to the Janma lagna, Navamsha lagna and Dreshkaan lagan then it makes a good Raja Yoga.
  10. If the Amatayakaraka is giving aspect to the 10th lord from lagan then the person becomes minister. The Amatayakaraka strongly place in the 10th house from lagan also make one minister.
  11. If the Amatayakaraka is conjoined with a benefic planet and is place in either 5th or 7th house then it is a Raja Yoga.

These are some of the Raja Yogas which are given in the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra’s chapter number 25. One can easily notice here that the Atamakaraka, 5th lord, Amatakakaraka and Putrakaraka are prominently used in these yogas. These Raja Yogas are reckoned with Janama lagan and Karakamsha lagan mainly. There is no mention of Darakaraka being used for Raja Yogas as some of the modern astrologers are doing these days. If you start considering Darakaraka for Raja Yoga’s in Jaimini  then you will end up locating Raja Yogas in every horoscope.

The Jaimini Sutra’s has also not mention about Darakaraka being used in Raja Yogas. See some of the examples of Jaimini Raja Yogas given in Chapter I, Quarter III.

(i) If a planet aspects Hora lagna, Ghatika lagna and Janma lagna, the person becomes a ruler or equal to him.

(ii) If the Chandra lagna, Navamsha lagna and Dreshkaan lagna and the 7th house from these three are under aspect by one planet, the person become a great ruler.

(iii) If the lagna or 5th or the 7th house is occupied by Jupiter, Venus or Moon then the native become a high ranking government servant.

(iv) If the Venus and Moon occupy the 4th house from Atamakaraka then the person get a royal patronage.

(v) If the Venus, Mars and Ketu have mutual aspects or if they are in the 3rd house from each other, the person will have an aristocratic surroundings.

(vi) If from the lord of the lagna or 7th the benefic planets occupy the 2nd , 4th , 5th and 8th house then it is a Raja Yoga.

(Vii) If the malefic planets occupy the 3rd and 6th house from the lord of lagna or the lord of 7th house then a person become a military commander.

These are some of the Jaimini Raja Yoga’s given in Jaimini Sutra’s mostly this text has Raja Yoga’s similar to the one’s given in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. In the Jaimini Sutra’s the Atamakaraka, 5th lord, Putrakaraka and Amatayakaraka are mainly used for the reckoning of the Raja Yoga. At some places the lagna lord and 7th lord are also been consider for Raja Yogas. The different lagan’s such as Karakamsha lagan, Arudha lagna, Ghatika lagan and Dreshkaan lagna have been used for judging the placement of planets and Karaka’s in the making of Raja Yoga’s.

In both the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and Jaimini Sutra’s the Darakaraka has not been mention any where in the reckoning of Raja Yoga’s.

Books on Jaimini Astrology

April 11, 2016 By Sachin Malhotra

Jaimini  is one of the most intricate system of Hindu astrology. The Jaimini system or Jaimini Jyotish marks a significant departure from the canons of Parashari  which is the most popular and preferred system of horoscope reading among Vedic astrologers in India. However, it can not be maintained that Jaimini and Parashari are at complete variance from each other as the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS)   itself contains the basic rules of Jaimini yogas and dashas in great details.  The Parashara Hora Shastra has given the fundamental rules of Jaimini aspects, Arudha  or Pada, Argalas, Karakamsha, Jaimini Yogas, determination of longevity and various Jaimini dashas in its early chapters.Continue Reading
