In Brihat Parashara Hora Sastra published by Sri Khemaraj Shri Krishna Das Venketeshwara Press Mumbai, which is the oldest translation of this classical text available at present, the Bandhan Yoga has been clearly mentioned at page number 219 in chapter number 27. As per this chapter if there are an equal number of planets placed in the 2/12, 5/9, 6/12, 3/11 and/or 4/10 axis from the Janma lagna or Karakamsha lagna then native can get imprisonment. Interestingly the text says that if benefic planets, by their aspect or conjunction, are involve in this yoga then physical bondage or imprisonment doesn’t take place. It has been found that if natural benefic like Jupiter, Mercury, Venus and Waxing Moon are involved in Bandhan Yoga then native feels emotional suffocation or compulsions.
A point to remember here is that, in Bandhan Yoga Rahu and Ketu are not considered as they are shadow planets only. However, in ‘Paap Kartari Yoga’ we do consider nodes, Rahu and Ketu as they are natural malefic planets.
In Dwadasha Vivek Adhyay of Jataka Tattwam the placement of malefic planets in the 2/12 and 5/9 houses have been given as ‘Bandhan Yoga’ for imprisonment. As per Brihad Yavana Jataka Mars in the 12th house also give imprisonment. As per Shambhu Hora Prakash and Hora Ratnam malefic planets in 2/12 and 5/9 houses gives imprisonment. According to Late Dr. B.V. Raman if the lords of ascendant and 6th house are in conjunction with Rahu, Ketu and/or Saturn and are in the Kendra (angle) or Trikona (trine) then native shall be imprisoned.
Bandhan Yoga had also been given in chapter number 21 ‘Anishtha Yoga Adhyay’ of Brihat Jataka at Sloka number 16. I am referring to the Briha Jataka in Hindi by Dr. Suresh Chandra Mishra (page number 338). Here, the yoga is a little different. As Varahamihira takes malefic planets in the 2/12 and 5/9 house from the Janma lagna for imprisonment. He also mentions the role of Drekkan in the lagna for the assessment of the type of bondage one may have to face.
For ‘Bandhan Yoga’s giving imprisonment the affliction to the 12th house has to be seen in the Dreshkkaan chart.
Bandhan Yoga in Prashna Marga
A special reference to Bandhan Yoga has been given in Chapter number 14 of Prashna Marga from Sloka number 106 to 114. I am referring here to the translation by Dr. B.V. Raman of Prashna Marga (Part I) at page number 487. Although, these yoga’s given are mentioned with respect to the Horary or Prashna Kundali but we can also apply these on the natal horoscopes.
A special reference to the Janma lagna rising in Sarpa Dreshkkan or Nigada Dreshkkan getting the aspect of a powerful malefic has been given with respect to yoga for imprisonment. As per stanza number 111 of Chapter number 14 of Prashna Marga, “If the lagna falls either in the Dreshkkan of Saturn or in Sarpa Dereshkkan, and is aspected by the Moon and Saturn, then subject will be imprisoned.
The next stanza 112 says, “if Saturn occupies the 5th, 9th, 4th, 8th or 7th identical with a malefic owned Rashi and is aspected by malefics, one suffer prison for life.” If Saturn is in movable sign, the person will be liberated from prison soon; if a fixed sign, he suffers a long-term of imprisonment; and if in a common sign, the period will be neither very long nor very short.

Now i am presenting here the study of the horoscope of V. Senthil Balaji who was a minister in the DMK government in Tamil Nadu before he got arrested on 14 June 2023 by Enforcement Directorate (ED) for alleged money laundering.
Horoscope of V. Senthil Balaji
In the horoscope of V. Senthil Balaji (21 October 1975, 08:35 am at Karur, Tamil Nadu) the Scorpio lagna is rising. The noticeable point here is the equal number of planets in the 6th and 12th house. The Sun is in the 6th house and the Moon is in the 12th house. We don’t consider Rahu and Ketu in the Bandhan Yoga. The luminaries the Sun and the Moon makes a very good Raja Yoga for Scorpio lagna as per Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. Sun being the 10th lord is in mutual aspect with 9th lord Moon makes a very strong Raja Yoga here. He was the minister of transport in the AIADMK government during 2011 to 2015. At that time he was under the Vimshottari Maha Dasha of Mars (April 2011 to April 2018). Mars as the lagna and 6th lord is in the 8th house making a Vipreet Raja Yoga. But here Mars in its enemy sign and is placed in the Nakshtra of Rahu has to give controversies and legal hurdles.
The ED has registered a case against him in relation to the allegation of corruption when he was the transport minister in the AIADMK government during 2011 to 2015. In December 2018 when he was under Rahu-Rahu period in Vimshottari he joined the DMK party in the presence of its president M.K. Stalin.
Rahu is in the 12th house in birth chart and in Navamsha it gets the aspect of 8th lord Mars. Now he got arrested on 14 June 2023 during his Rahu Dasha and Saturn Bhukti in Vimshottari from 13 May 2023 to 19 March 2026. He allegedly had chest pain and has to be treated at hospital at that time. He was Electricity and Excise Minister in the DMK government during 7 May 2021 to 16 June 2023. In the first week of November this year his case for bail came up for a hearing at the Supreme Court. The apex court had extended his remand till 22nd of November this year till the next hearing on the matter.
Also notice in his chart we have equal number of planets in the 5th and 9th house also. So, the equal number of planets at the 6th and 12th house and also the 5th and 9th house makes two classical Bandhan Yoga in the horoscope of V.Senthil Balaji. The Maha Dasha of Rahu in the 12th house and Anter Dasha of Saturn involve in Bandhan Yoga can keep him behind bar for few more months. His Karakamsha lagna is Aquarius from where the 9th house has Sun and the 5th house has Mars making another “Bandhan Yoga”. Apart from this malefic planets in the 5th and 9th from Karakamsha lagna also give troubles arising due to the Puja or Sadhana of Shudra Devi-Devata’s as per Jaimini Sutram.
The court case can run for a very long duration giving trouble to V.Senthil Balaji until his Mercury Anter Dasha will come in March 2026. Mercury as the 8th and 11th lord (decree of court) in mutual aspect with 5th lord Jupiter shows complete relief in the matter. Before this Mercury Anter Dasha he will have to face the imprisonments for many months and even after the bail he may gain find himself in more legal troubles as the current Anter Dasha of Saturn is not favorable for him.
As per the Jaimini Chara Dasha he got arrested when Aries-Aquarius period was running from 21 April to 21 June 2023. Aries is the 6th house from his Janma lagna and his Atamakaraka Jupiter falls in the 12th house from Aries sign. The Anter Dasha Rashi Aquarius is the sign of his Karakamsha lagna as his Atamakaraka Jupiter is in the Navamsha of Aries. Now the Jaimini Chara Dasha of Pisces is running since 20th of October 2023 don’t show any quick relief as Pisces has his Atamakaraka Jupiter and his Amatayakaraka Venus falls in the 6th from Pisces sign. Notice here the aspect of Ganatikaraka Mars on his Atamakaraka Jupiter in Pisces, the dasha of which can give health issues to him of a serious nature.
