Possible effects of Long Stay of Mars in Capricorn in 2018

May 2, 2018 By Sachin Malhotra

The ‘Makar’ or Capricorn Rasi is taken as the zodiacal sign of India traditionally by North Indian astrologers since centuries. They claim that Varahamihira had allocated the Makar Rasi for India in his work on mundane astrology in the 6th century A.D. However, no one has ever produced any Sanskrit stanza or Sloka in the support of this claim. But it has been observed that major planets transiting from Makar (Capricorn Rasi) had brought in catastrophic  events in the history of India. In year 2018 the long stay of Mars in Makar Rasi from 2nd of May to 5th of November is expected to  bring devastating natural calamities, including an earthquake, and radical changes in the political scenario creating trepidation for the people in general. The big earthquakes are expected in the regions of North India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Eastern part of Iran during May to October in year 2018.  I will discuss it in detail but before that see some of the examples given below of the major historical events in the last century at  the time when major planets were transiting from ‘Makar’ Rasi.

  • Bihar Earthquake 16 January 1934: A devastating earthquake with intensity of 8.0 at the rector scale occurred on the mid night of 15/16 January in 1934 when transiting Saturn, Rahu, Mars, Sun, Mercury and Moon were in Makar Rasi. This earthquake took the lives of more than 7000 peoples in Bihar only and many other were died in Nepal.
  • India-China war in 1962: The Indo-China war started on the 20thof October 1962 when Saturn and Ketu were in Makar Rasi in degree conjunction. Mars, Rahu and Moon were in close conjunction in the Cancer sign in mutual aspect with these planets.
  • India-Pakistan war in 1971: At the time of Indo-Pak war in 1971 the Rahu was in Makar Rasi in Shravana Nakshatra.
  • Assassination of Rajiv Gandhi: Rajive Gandhi was assassinated on the 21stof May 1991 when the transiting Saturn was retrograde in Makar Rasi in Shravana Nakshatra. Mars and Jupiter where in Cancer in mutual aspect with Saturn.
  • Demolition of Babri Masjid: At the time of demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on 6 December 1992 the Saturn and Venus were in Capricorn (Makar) Rasi and Mars was in Cancer in retrogration in mutual aspect with them. Hundreds of people were killed in the riots across the nation after the demolition of this controversial structure at Ayodhya.

Many other crucial events have occurred when any of the major planets Saturn, Jupiter, Mars , Rahu and Ketu have influenced the Capricorn Rasi in transit. Why is it so that Capricorn or Makar sign is so crucial for India ? Late Shri B.V. Raman use to take Virgo (Kanya) Rasi for India for the purpose of ‘Medini Jyotish’( mundane astrology). This contradiction between the North Indian astrologers taking Capricorn as the sign of India and South-Indian astrologers using Virgo can be easily understood if one look carefully at the ‘Koorma-Chakra’ given in the Bhriat Samhita of Varahamihira and also in the ‘Vishnu-Puran’. In the ‘Koorma-Chakra’  Uttarashad, Sravan and Dhanishta Nakshatra’s comes in the North-West direction. Since these three Nakshatra form the sign Capricorn so for this reason the astrologers in North-India started taking this sign for India. Whereas the Uttarphalgun, Hasta and Chitra Nakshatra’s  forming the Virgo (Kanya) sign comes in the South direction in the Koorma-Chakra,  so there is no surprise that astrologers hailing from southern-peninsular started taking ‘Kanya’ as the zodiacal sign of India.

Astrological predictions for India in 2018

Navamsha chart of India

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Saturn 18 years 0 months 25 days

Samudaya Ashtaka Varga India

At the time of Indian Independence the Taurus sign was rising. The ‘Makar’ was in the 9th house receiving the aspects of six planets  Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus and Saturn. In Sarvashataka Varga the sign ‘Makar’ gets only 20 points though which makes it very weak. So whenever some major planet ingress from this Rasi some tragic events create problems for the central government of India and also for the general public.

Now in year 2018 Mars will be having a long stay in the Capricorn sign due to its retrogression. Mars stay in a sign for a longer period after every 2.5 years due to its retrograde motion. The long stay of Mars in a Rasi is known to bring many violent and tragic events. This time Mars will be in conjunction with Ketu which will make its stay in ‘Makar’ Rasi more fearsome for India in particular. The transiting Saturn will be in Sagittarius the 8th house of the foundation chart and Jupiter will be in Libra the 6th house. So the other two major planets Saturn and Jupiter will also be in unfavorable positions from the ascendant of the foundation chart of India. The dasha of Moon-Rahu ( from 8 February 2017 to 10 August 2018) and later Moon-Jupiter is also sensitive. The Bhukti  of Jupiter, starting from the 8th of August, which is the lord of 8th house placed in the 6th house shows death of important leaders of ruling party, scandals, and mass deaths from natural calamities and on the positive side some surprised scientific innovations.

Bad Impact on India-China relationship in 2018

The Capricorn is the rising sign of the horoscope of the China with whom Indian prime minister Narendra Modi is trying to improve bilateral relationships. Narendra Modi visited China in the last week of April and had a constructive meeting with Xi Jinping. The two head of the states agreed to maintain peace along the border in their casual meeting. Prime Minister Modi was criticized at home for not raising the critical issues of Doklam, border incursion, China-Pakistan Economic corridor etc. As per the External Affair Ministry of India the Modi’s meeting with Xi Jinping was without any fixed agenda. Now in the current scenario this immature and wobbly attitude towards China may led to big disaster in foreign affairs in next couple of years as per our astrological analysis.

astrological predictions of India-China war

In the Makar lagan horoscope of China the dasha of Saturn-Jupiter-Rahu will be running from 13 May 2018 to 29 September 2018. During this period China will suffer from natural calamities like flood, earthquake and land-slides. There will be lots of losses of human life and national assets in the country. The sub period lord Rahu in the 3rd house and the transit of Mars-Ketu in the ascendant shows problem in relationship with neighboring countries. The south-China sea disputes will create a big international diplomatic problem involving China and USA in loggerhead. There will also be trade war between China and USA affecting the world economy badly particularly in the second fortnight of May and after the lunar eclipse of 28th of July 2018.

The transit of Mars over the natal Moon of China in Makar rashi will make it more aggressive.  The Chinese army will cross the line of control with India on many occasions during May to September this year which will create diplomatic problem. The border dispute with China will ultimately going to result into a big war after March 2020 when transiting Saturn and Jupiter will be in Makar (Capricorn) rashi. This war will put a serious dent on the international image of Indian prime minister Narendra Modi who’s reputation will reduce to dust like that of Gamal Nasser of Egypt after his country humiliating defeat from Israel in 6 days war in year 1967.

The long stay of Mars in Makar rashi in year 2018 will set the stage for India’s future wars with China and Pakistan in 2020.

Danger of an Earthquake after lunar eclipse of 27/28 July 2018

A total lunar eclipse visible on the night of 27/28 of July may also bring an earthquake in North West part of India and also in Pakistan.

Lunar Eclipse

Longitude: 77 E 13’ and Latitude : 28 N 40’

Lunar Eclipse of 27/28 July 2018 and its effects

The rising sign in the horoscope of total lunar eclipse is ‘Taurus’ which is same as the ascendant of the foundation chart of India. It has been observed that when the rising sign of lunar chart or a solar ingress horoscope is identical to the ascendant sign of a country that period concern will be very crucial for the country. So the fortnight starting from the 28th of July is going to be very sensitive for India. The Moon at the time of this eclipse will be in the Shravan Nakshatra and Mars retrograde in Uttarashada both in the North-West direction of the ‘Koorma-Chakra’. The affliction to the ‘Makar’ Rasi and ‘Uttarashad’ Nakshara may bring a devastating earthquake in the North Western and Northern states of the country. The 15 days after this lunar eclipse of 27/28 of July 2018 will be highly sensitive for the possibility of a strong earthquake affecting both India and Pakistan. In the Navamsa of the lunar eclipse the 8th lord Saturn in the ascendant under the aspect of 6th lord Mars is a deadly combination of national mourning.

Political Scandals and Religious Tensions in 2018

The conjunction of Mars and Ketu in the ‘Makar’ Rasi which is the 9th house of the foundation chart of India will also instigates the religious tensions. The ruling party BJP  will try to ignite the ‘Ayodhya Ram Temple dispute’ to cover-up their administrative weakness in running the government. The Indian economy struggling to revive from the setbacks of demonetization and poor implementation of GST may have to face another jolt due to global recession. This will prompt the BJP to play its tested ‘Hindutava card’ to win the general election in 2019 by diverting public attention from the economic issues. The transit of Mars from 2nd of May to 5th of November in 2018 will be the sensitive time when some religious riots can shock the whole nation. There could also be a political scandal like ‘EVM tampering in elections’ and/ or a corruption case exposing the administrative weakness of the central government. The transiting Mars and Ketu from ‘Makar’ will be afflicting the 8th house of the foundation chart of the BJP which can bring serious humiliation and irrecoverable loss of some senior leaders of the party.

Horoscope of BJP

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Mercury 5 years 0 Months 12 Days

The ruling party BJP under the Vimshottari dasha of Moon-Moon from April 2018 to February 2019 will face lots of difficulties. The Moon is the lord of 2nd house a ‘Maraka’ placed in the 6th house of disputes. The Moon is debilitation though receiving the aspect of its own Rasi lord Mars and also the 5th lord Venus give it some strength. But since Moon is in ‘Kemdruma yoga’ so it will make the BJP isolated on some very serious political issue of national interest. The transiting Mars and Ketu from the 8th house ‘Makar’ in the foundation chart of BJP will give its leader lots of problems due to scandals and controversies.  The death of some important leaders and a possible exposer of some big senior party leaders in electoral scandal like ‘EVM tempering’ could damage the reputation of party and create serious disputes within the organization. Some of the party leaders will face court cases as the dasha of Moon placed in the 6th house shows. All this will happen during the long stay of Mars in the ‘Makar’ Rasi beginning from the month of May towards the end of October in 2018.

Crisis in Indian Judiciary and Makar Samkrani horoscope 2018

January 15, 2018 By Sachin Malhotra

On the 12th of January the news of ‘revolt’ of four senior judges of Supreme Court of India against the Chief Justice of India (CJI) took the nation by surprise. The press conference by the four  of the five senior most judges of the apex court was held at the residence of  Justice Chemlameswar who is second only to the Chief Justice of India  Dipak Mishra. In this unprecedented event in the history of India the four judges also released the letter of protest which they had given to the chief justice  two months back and claimed that “There have been instances where cases having far-reaching consequences for the nation and the institution had been assigned by the Chief Justices of this court selectively to the benches ‘of their preference’ without any rational basis.” The judges further said that “they were compelled to speak because democracy will not survive unless the institution of the Supreme Court is preserved.”

Although this event was astonishing for everyone but astrologically we were anticipating a major crisis in the Indian judiciary with its differences with the central government over many issues including the appointment of judges in higher judiciary. I had mention this astrological possibility in my article “Hindu New Year horoscope 2017 and prospects for India “ posted on this blog on March 28, 2017.

Now looking at the solar ingress horoscope of Capricorn and the coming ‘long stay of Mars in Makar for about 7 months’ , during the second half of 2018,  we can astrologically foresee major judicial crisis in the country . The collegium system of appointment of judges is likely to go under reforms which will begin from 2018 and it may get  complete in 2020 when the transiting Saturn and Jupiter will be in conjunction in Makar rashi (Capricorn sign). The Saturn ( justice giver) , Jupiter  ( law) and Mars ( law enforcement agency) are the primary planets for judiciary which are going to transit from the sensitive houses of the foundation chart of India this year. This will bring unprecedented and very controversial crisis in the Indian judicial system which will make a strong public opinion for the judicial reforms in the country.

Makar Samkranti horoscope 2018

In the Makar Samkranti or Sun’s entry into Capricorn horoscope the lagna and 6th lord Venus is in the 9th house in combustion  by the Sun. Mars aspect the 9th house in Rashi chart from the 6th house showing the rift in the judiciary to get widen further in days to come. In Navamsha the 9th lord Venus has gone into the 12th house in Rahu-Ketu axis under the aspect of Mars again. The 9th house under heavy affliction shows trouble in the judiciary. The issue of the selection of judges in the higher judiciary will surface again as a dispute between the central government and apex court of country. Notice here the 9th lord Saturn falling in the 8th house and the Jupiter the Karaka for Judiciary is transiting from the 6th house.

How judges are appointed in India ?

In India the judges in the Supreme Court and High Court are appointed by the “Collegium System” since 1993 after a judgement of the apex court in “Supreme Court Advocates on record Vs Union of India case”. The Collegium consist of the Chief Justice of India as its chairman and four other senior judges of the Supreme court as its members. However, the collegium system has no place in the constitution of India. This system was evolved through the Judgements of the Supreme court which is known in judicial circle as “Three Judges cases”. In August 2014 the present BJP government brought the National Judicial Appointment Commission Act (NJAC) and the 99th constitutional amendment to brought an end to for the collegium system. But the Supreme Court of India rejected this bill by declaring it ‘unconstitutional and void’. In October  2015 the 5 judges bench headed by Justice J.S. Khehar strike down the NJAC Act and the 99th constitutional amendment in its judgement. Since then a tussle between the central government and apex court has been going on over the appointment of judges to higher courts.

Unlike the western countries the legislature in India has no say in the matter of judges appointment in higher judiciary as well as in the lower judiciary. The politicians are merely spectators when it comes to the matter of appointment of judges as it is done by an Independent judiciary. But the process of selections is very much oblique and lack transparency particularly in case of Higher judiciary.

Crisis in lower judiciary of India

According to a report  issued by the Supreme Court –‘Indian Judiciary Annual Report 2015-2016’– a whopping 2.8 crore ( 28 million)  cases were pending in the district courts across the country which were short of nearly 5,000 judicial officers.

The report had suggested increasing the judicial manpower “manifold” — at least seven times — to overcome the crisis by appointing about 15,000 more judges in the coming years.

There is no centralised process of recruitment of judges in the district court of India. The judges are appointed by the governors of the state in consultation of the chief justice of the state concern.  A minimum of seven years of practise as a lawyer at bar is a necessary qualification for direct entry level to become a District Judge upon a written examination and oral interview by a committee of High court judges. It is often alleged that the process of selection in judicial examination is not transparent and lack accountability from the side of Higher judiciary.  But who ever has tried to highlight this issue has been targeted  by the ‘contempt  of court proceedings’ threat.

There is a rampant corruption at all level of judiciary in India as per many senior advocates including Shanti Bhushan .   While politicians and actors get instant relief from courts, the common man struggles for years for justice.

What we can expect astrologically in the first quarter of 2018 ?

Now under this background we shall go through the horoscope of  Sun’s entry into Capricorn again.

. The rising sign Taurus is same as the rising sign of the foundation chart of India. So the period of one month during the operation of this horoscope is going to be very sensitive for the country.

. The four planets Mercury, Saturn, Moon and Jupiter giving aspect to the 2nd house of taxation and finance shows the possibility of amendment in many tax laws like ‘Income Tax Act 1961’ and the GST (Goods and Services Tax).

. The amendments in the Income Tax Act 1961 may happen in next 3 months as the horoscope cast for the Sun’s entry into a movable sign shows the trends for the next 3 months.

. The 2nd and 5th lord Mercury in the 8th house in Sagittarius sign shows the chances of some downfall in the stock market in the period of 30 days from Sun’s entry into Makar i.e. 14th of January 2018.

. The 8th lord Jupiter conjoined with 7th lord Mars shows the possibility of terrorist sticks causing mass deaths during the period of next 30 days.

. The conjunction of 5th lord Mercury and 9th lord Saturn shows that there will be great scientific invention by the Indian scientist which will make the nation proud.

. The government give relief to the general public from the high inflation by bringing in the prices of petrol and diesel into the ambit of GST. At present the state government put taxes on petroleum products which in some case is more than 50%.

. There will be some unnatural rainfall in the second fortnight of January starting from Mars entry into watery sign Scorpio on the 17th and later Mercury moving into Capricorn on the 28th of January. This untimely rain will damage crops of farmers at many places across north and central India.

Judicial reforms in India will come in 2020

Now coming back to the question of the crisis in Indian judicial system the things are likely to get worst after Mars’s entry into the Capricorn sign on the 2nd of May this year where it will stay till the 5th of November along with Ketu. It is highly likely that some judges may give their resignation from their post in controversial circumstances.  A decision on the Ram Temple issue in Ayodhya in favor of the Hindu parties may  come around the total  lunar eclipse of 28 July 2018. This decision on the Ram Temple case,  which is in process of   the final hearing before a 3 judges bench headed by the Chief Justice of India Dipak Mishra, will have far reaching political consequences.

Later serious  questions will be raised on the accountability of judges and to bring the transparency in the process of their selection. This will happen in a chain of event between May to November this year during the stay of Mars in the Capricorn sign. A demand for a Judicial Selection Commission will be raised and a case in this regard may appear in front of the apex court for hearing. The process of Judicial reforms in India will take a positive shape in year 2020 when Saturn and Jupiter will conjoined in the Capricorn sign which is the 9th house of the foundation chart of the country. It is highly likely that Collegium system of  selection for Higher Judiciary will be made more transparent and a centralised commission will be formed for the appointment of  judges in district courts. Matter of the accountability of judges will also be addressed on serious note by the legislature and apex court in year 2020.
