In the classical texts of Hindu Astrology there are very few reference related to what subjects of studies a native may take to build his/her career. In ancient agrarian and patriarchal society , when these astrological treaties where written the education was meant to be learning mostly Mimansa (Philosophy), Vedanta (Vedic wisdom), Nyaya (law), Shilpa Kala (art of sculpture making), Kavya (poetry), Bhaishajya (study of medicines), Ganita (mathematics), Khogala Shastra  (astronomy) etc. Nowadays there are thousands of subjects in the offering for the students to opt for a career in various fields. In this article we are taking some cases studies of natives who had made their career in medical field while testing some classical and modern combinations for the study of medicines on their horoscopes.

1. In Jaimini Sutram Chapter I Quarter II the Sloka number 86 says ‘When Moon and Venus are together in the Karakamsha lagna or when Moon is getting Jaimini aspect by Venus the person become a chemist creating drugs.
2. The Sloka number 86 of Jaimini Sutram in Chapter number I says that when Moon is in Karakamsha is getting aspect of Mercury then a person become medical practitioner.
3. In Jataka Tattwam ‘Pancham Vivek Adhyay’ the Sloka number 33 to 35 gives few yoga’s for medical practitioner for which the term “Bhaishajya” has been used. As per these yoga’s if the 2^nd and 5^th house from Karakamsha get the aspects of Mercury, Venus and/or Moon then a person become Vaidya or doctor. If the Karakamsha lagna get the aspect of Venus and Moon then a native is expert in chemicals or medicines manufacturing. If Rahu and Sun associated with some planets in Karakamsha lagan the native is an expert in poisons which in modern terms are also some drugs.
4. As per my teacher Shri K.N. Rao Sun gives study of physics and Mula- Ayurvedic medicines if it is associated with malefic planets. Moon in associated or aspect with malefic planets or technical signs gives pharmacy and study in medicine. He has used the term ‘drugged Moon’ for this yoga meaning that under affliction to Moon by technical planets a person gets education in medical sciences. Saturn, Mars, Sun, Rahu and Ketu are considered technical planets while Venus, Jupiter, Mercury and Moon are non-technical in nature.
5. As per Shri K.N. Rao “Since doctor studies diseases so a connection of sixth (disease), 8^th (sudden mishap) and 12^th (hospital) should be there with education giving houses. A strong Jupiter (karaka for Jeeva Vigyan) and Ketu (significate of medical practitioner) along with Sun are found to be very significant in the horoscopes of doctors. The role of technical Rashi’s Aries, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Sagittarius, Capricorn and Aquarius is also very important. The rest of the sign are non-technical in nature. {Reference: Planets and Education – Guide and Editor K.N. Rao at page number 179 and 180}

Now we will check the above mention principals on the horoscopes of some very successful doctors and medical practitioners.

6. In the horoscopes of medical practitioners the 10^th house or its lord is found to be associated with the lords of 6^th, 8^th and/or 12^th

Case 1. Chief Medical Officer (CMO)  of ESIC Hospital   

Born: 6 March 1951, 01:40 am at Delhi

Longitude 77 E 13’ and Latitude 28 N 40’

With balance of 5 years 10 months 2 days of Mars Dasha.

Karakamsha lagna: Taurus

The Scorpio lagna horoscope given here is of retired CMO  of ESIC government hospital Rohini in Delhi. In the birth chart 6^th lord (disease) Mars is in the 5^th house of education along with 12^th lord (hospitals) Venus and they are in mutual aspect with a technical planet Saturn. The 5^th lord Jupiter is in technical sign Aquarius along with Sun which is karaka for medical subjects. The great Raja yoga of 5^th lord Jupiter in conjunction with 10^th lord Sun is well supported by 11^th lord Mercury which gave him a the high position of Dean of the very big government hospital in Delhi.

As per the Jaimini system the Karakamsha lagna is Taurus which get the aspect of Moon. The 10^th from Karakamsha has Sun, Rahu and Mercury which confer a great career in medical field as per Jataka Tattwam. Jupiter is also in the 10^th from Karakamsha which gave him high post in management of a government hospital.

I met him sometimes during 2010 when he was under Mercury anter dasha in the Maha Dasha of Mercury. He asked me if he is going to retire from the post without any controversies. The anter dasha of Ketu was about to come which would run from June 2012 to June 2013 and then sub period of Venus to be followed at the time of his retirement. Both Ketu and Venus were very strong in the horoscope so I gave him the prediction that there shall be no disputes in his remaining years in government job and he shall also find some projects to work in private sectors afterwards which later came out correct. In the Navamsha chart his maha dasha lord Mercury and the anter dasha lords Ketu and Venus were not afflicted by any malefic planet.

Case 2. An Eye Surgeon  

Born: 1 February  1978, 11:05 am at Delhi

With balance of 14 years 2 month 14 days of Jupiter dasha   

 

 

Karakamsha lagna Aries

In the Aries  lagna horoscope of eye surgeon the 6^th lord Mercury  is in conjunction with 5th lord Sun and they are in mutual aspect with 8th lord Mars. In the maha dasha of Saturn, which is in the Nakshatra of Ketu the  Karaka for Jeev Vigyan, he took admission in MBBS in year 1996 when anter dasha of 6th lord Mercury was running. Moon is here in a non technical Rashi Libra  but get the aspects of Jupiter, Saturn and Mars. The Karakamsha lagna is Aries  here as the Atamakaraka Moon is in Aries Navamsha. The 2nd and 5th house from Karakamsha lagna get the Jaimini aspcts of Sun, Moon, Mercury and Venus.

He completed his M.B.B.S. in November  2000 in Saturn maha dasha and Venus anter dasha. Venus here is along with lord of 5th house the Sun. Because of the influence of Venus he choosed to do his masters in Eye Surgery. He completed his maters (MD) in July 2004 in Saturn Dasha and Moon anter Dasha. Moon the Karaka for medical sciences is getting aspects of Mars and Saturn both. He got government job in a hospital in August 2006 in Saturn Dasha and Rahu anter dasha. Soon after in year 2009 he started his own hospital with the help of his wife in his Saturn Dasha and Jupiter anter Dasha. The horoscope has major Raja Yoga of  Mars and Sun in mutual aspect becasue of which he got huge success in his own practice and later he lef his government job. The Vimshottari Dasha of  Vargottama Mercury in Upachaya house gave him lots of success. Mercury dasha started in his chart in April 2011.

Case 3. Child Specialist    Doctor  

            12 November 1972, 00:25 hours mid night at Calcutta

Karakamsha : Sagittarius

The Leo lagna horoscope is  of the head of the Paediatrics department of ESIC hospital in Rohini Delhi. A strong Jupiter in own sign in Sagittarius along with Rahu and Moon astrologically explain his expertise as a ‘child specialist’ doctor. Noticeable here is that Rahu, Moon and Jupiter are in the technical sign Sagittarius. He did his MBBS and MD from prestigious medical collage associated with Ramakrishan Mission in Calcutta. Later he did his MRCP specialization from England. An interesting thing about this horoscope is that he has got the dasha’s of planets associated with Dharma Trikona (1^st , 5^th and 9^th houses)  throughout his life.

He was born in Sun maha dasha which as the lagna lord is in conjunction with 9^th lord Mars. Then came Moon maha dasha (1978 to 1988) which is in the 5^th house to be followed by Mars dasha (1988 to 1995) which is the lord of 9^th house and then Rahu period (1995 to 2013) which is in the 5^th house itself and now he is under maha dasha of Jupiter (2013 to February 2029) which is the lord of 5^th house in own sign.

This unique dasha order, which has relations with Dharma Trikona, gave him the blessing of a spiritual outlook towards life since very young age. The strong Rahu in the 5^th house of Rashi and Navamsha chart gave him the quality to understand complexities of human behaviour and intricacies of mind. Apart from a successful medical career as a doctor he is also a highly evolved spiritual person associated with an organization in this area.

Moon is in Karakamsha lagna getting the Jaimini aspect of Venus gives a career in medicines as per Jaimini Sutram principals. The 2^nd and 5^th house from Karakamsha lagna get the Jaimini aspect of Mercury is also a yoga for medical career.

 

Case 4. Gynecologist

           10 September 1974, 14:50 hours at Delhi

           With balance of 9 months and 20 days of Mars dasha

Karakamsha lagna: Scorpio

The Sagittarius lagna horoscope given above is of the head of Gynaecology department in ESIC hospital in Rohini Delhi. She has done MBBS and MS (Gynaecology). The 5^th and 12^th lord Mars is in the 10^th house of career. The 6^th lord (Venus) is in the 9^th house of higher education along with 9^th lord Sun. In the birth chart and Navamsha Moon the Karaka for ‘medicines’ is in technical afflicted by malefic planets confirming the theory of ‘drugged Moon’. As per Jaimini system the Karakamsha lagna is Scorpio from where the 2^nd house ‘Sagittarius’ and 5^th house ‘Pisces’  get the Jaimini aspects of Mercury and Moon which make the yoga for study in medicines as per Jataka Tattwam.

 

Case 5. Dental Surgeon

           25 August 1979, 00:43 hours mid night at Delhi

           Balance of Sun dasha 4 years 5 months 25 days

Karakamsha lagna: Pisces

The Taurus lagna horoscope given above is of a senior dental surgeon who is head of the Jamia Medical college in Delhi. She has done her masters in dental surgery (MDS). Moon is in the 5^th house of education in technical sign Virgo getting the aspect of 12^th lord (hospitals) Mars. In the horoscope the 5^th lord Mercury is in non-technical sign of Moon in Cancer so here it is not in any affliction. But she got her education in dental surgery during Rahu maha dasha (February 2001 to February 2019) which is in technical sign Leo. Sometimes it happen that 5^th lord of education is not under the influences of technical planets but the dasha lord is under predominance influences of technical nature planets so it gives education in ‘science’ related subjects.

 

Case 6. Dr. Harsh Vardhan

            13 December 1954, 00:20 hours at mid night at Delhi

With a balance of 17 years 5 months 5 days of Saturn maha dasha

Karakamsha lagna : Pisces

The Leo lagna horoscope given here is of Dr. Harsh Vardhan who is a surgeon and former Health Minister of India. Rahu is in the 5^th house of education in technical sign Sagittarius. The 5^th lord Jupiter is in the 12^th house of hospitals along with 12^th lord Moon and them together aspect the 6^th house of diseases. Saturn as the 6^th lord aspect the 12^th house where the 5^th & 8^th lord Jupiter is placed completing the connection between the 5^th house/lord along with the Dusthana’s (6^th, 8^th and 12^th) lords which gave him a medical career. He completed his bachelor of medicines and surgery from Kanpur University in 1979 when he was under Mercury maha dasha and Moon anter dasha. Later he completed his masters in Surgery in 1983 during Mercury-Rahu dasha in Vimshottari (November 1981 to June 1984).

His Karakamsha lagna is Pisces from where the 2^nd house get the aspects of Sun and Mercury giving a medical education. In the birth chart the 4^th and 9^th lord Mars aspect the 10^th house which also get the joint aspects of lagna lord Sun along with Mercury who is the lord of 2^nd and 11^th house making a good yoga for getting fame. He was the minister of Health in Delhi state in 1994 when he oversaw the piolet project of pulse polio program which was later launched nationwide getting praises from the World Health Organization as India was declared polio free country in 2014.

He was appointed as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare on 26 May 2014 by Narendra Modi. It was Venus maha dasha and Mercury anter dasha at that time in his horoscope. Venus and Mercury are both very strong in Rashi, Navamsha and Dashamsha charts. In May 2017, when he was pasting through Sun maha dasha, he was given additional charge for the Ministry of Environment, Forecast and Climate Change. In May 2019 when Narendra Modi government get re-elected he was again made the Health Minister of the country during his Sun maha dasha and Saturn anter dasha. Saturn is exalted in the 3^rd house of birth chart along with 10^th lord Venus. Anter dasha lord Saturn is strongly placed in the Dashamsha lagan of Dr. Harsh Vardhan. This was peak of his career, but later on during Sun-Ketu dasha from January 2021 to May 2021 he saw a downfall.

During the second wave of COVID-19 in India Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the then Health Minister, was pasting through Sun-Ketu dasha in Vimshottari which are in 6/8 position in his birth chart. In Dashamsha chart also the Sun and Ketu are in 6/8 position, while Ketu is in the 6^th house getting aspects of 3^rd lord Moon and 8^th lord Jupiter, which are functional malefics there,  made him enter into some controversies during the mishandling of COVID crisis at that time. The deaths of countless number of people due to the shortage of oxygen gave immense criticism to his reputation as an expert Health professional. He later had to resign from his post in July 2021 and since then he has not got any prominent position in the government as ‘Public Health Expert’. The 10^th lord from lagna is Venus which is in conjunction with 6^th lord and 7^th lord Saturn. The 10^th lord from Moon is Mars which falls in the 8^th from it gave fall of reputation in the ending years of his glorious career.

 

 

 

         

 

The Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and some other classical text gives mixed results for the 8^th lord posted in the 8^th house. As per the classical text the 8^th lord in the 8^th house is good for longevity but if it is a malefic planet and/or under the affliction of malefics by aspect or conjunction, then native is not trustworthy, is a thief, back-biter   and suffer from distress {Reference: Chapter number 25, Bhavesha Phala Adhyay, Sloka number 15, Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra}. In practical experiences the 8^th house in the 8^th house gives very good results provided it is also strong in Navamsha chart. The 8^th lord, if also strong in Navamsha,  in the own house in birth chart  make one very charismatic in personality and gives surprise gains. If this 8^th lord is a benefic planet and is associated with lord of 5^th and/or 9^th house then it can give lot of fame and success to the native.

In this article I will give some example horoscopes to explain the results of strong 8^th lord in a horoscope and in between some classical principals of Parashari system will also be discussed.

Case 1. Female

            28 April 1999, 18:07 hours 

            Longitude: 79 E 25’ and Latitude: 28 N 21’

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Moon 1 years 10 months 25 days

In the Libra lagna horoscope of this young girl 8^th lord Venus is in own house and get the aspect of malefic 7^th lord Mars which is also retrograde. But this 8^th lord Venus is strong in Navamsha chart , as there it is posted in the 10^th house of career and is in mutual aspect of Jupiter which is the lord of 5^th house there.

In the Tula lagna birth chart of this girl the  6^th lord Jupiter is  in the own house in conjunction with 9^th and 12^th lord Mercury and in mutual aspect with 10^th lord Moon,  which makes a good combination  for success in competition. She got a placement in JP Morgan (An American Investment Bank and Financial Institution) in the last week of August 2020 while she was studying in her 3^rd year of engineering collage. She got a very impressive placement with a package of 14 Lakhs per annum at the time of COVID-19 when there are not many jobs in the market. This surprise success came during her Rahu-Venus dasha (October 2019 to October 2022)  in Vimshottari.

Rahu is in the 10^th house of career receiving the aspect of Jupiter. Rahu’s depositor Moon is receiving the aspect of its sign lord Mercury and also of Jupiter. As per Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra’s ‘Chandra Yoga Adhyay’ chapter number 38, if Moon get the aspect of its sign lord then it gives a good Raja Yoga. The anter dasha was of the 8^th lord Venus which is in its own house. In Navamsha Rahu is in the 4^th house with 5^th lord Jupiter in a good Raja Yoga and anter dasha lord Venus is in the 10^th house of career.

Case 2. Male

             12 September 1986 , 16:30 hours 

             Longitude: 77 E 02’ and Latitude: 28 N 28’

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Ketu 1 years 4 months 0 days

This Makar (Capricorn) lagna chart is also of an engineering who settled very well in his career during his maha dasha of Sun (January 2008 to January 2014) in Vimshottari. Sun as the 8^th lord is in own house and is also in friendly sign in Navamsha chart. In birth chart Sun is getting aspects of lagna lord Saturn and also of Jupiter which is functional malefic for Makar lagna chart. A very good feature of this horoscope is that it has 9^th lord Mercury and 10^th lord Venus in their own houses.

In the year 2008 he completed B.Tech and got admission in a  good management collage. While he was doing his MBA his father fixed his marriage. During this dasha of Sun he got  a good job in MNC and later got married in January 2014 when his Moon maha dasha has just started. Moon as the 7^th lord in the 12^th house gave his wife PR (permanent residence) for Canada and the couple then migrated in September 2016 (Moon-Rahu dasha). He is living a very comfortable life in Canada at present. Notice the 7^th lord is in 12^th house in both Rashi and Navamsha gave him foreign immigration on spouse visa. The 8^th lord Sun in own house gave him an excellent education, good career and a decent marriage alliance during its maha dasha.

Case 3. K.Chandrashekar Rao    

            17 February 1954, 10:30 am at Siddipet, Andhra Pradesh

            Longitude: 78 E 51’ and Latitude: 18 N 06’

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Mercury 2 years 6 months 19 days

The Aries lagna horoscope given here is of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao famously known as KCR. He has Mars as the 8^th lord in own house in mutual aspect with 9^th and 12^th lord Jupiter. The mutual aspect of Mars and Jupiter is a Raja Yoga for Aries lagna as Mars is the lord of lagna also and Jupiter is the lord of 9^th house. But it is also ‘Unmmad Yoga’ which makes a native very dynamic, bit aggressive and adamant. The ‘Unmmad Yoga’ has been discussed in detail in the classical text Jataka Tattwam. KCR had won four assembly elections from Siddipet from 1985 to 1999 on Telugu Desam Party’s ticket. He had served on the posts of minister in the state cabinet of N.T. Rama Rao and Chandrababu Naidu.

But his Mars maha dasha from September 1999 to September 2006 bring him into the  national politics and gave him lots of success. He left TDP and formed his own party ‘Telangana Rashtra Samithi’ (TRS)  in April 2001 when he was under Mars-Jupiter dasha in Vimshottari. He joined hands with Congress, which promised him Telangana State, to fight 2004 general elections in which his party TRS won 5 Lok Sabha Seats. KCR become the union minister of Labour and Employment in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s cabinet. He consolidated his party TRS during entire Mars maha dasha which as the 8^th lord in own house gave him a national role in politics. He led the campaign for the separate Telangana sate and got success in 2014 when he became the chief minister of newly formed Telangana state on 2 June 2014 (Rahu-Saturn dasha). His party TRS had won 11 of the 17 Lok Sabha Seats in Telangana and 63 of 119 Assembly seats. The foundation of his great political career was been established during the Mars dasha (1999 to 2006) which as the 8^th lord is in own house and in Navamsha it is involve in good Dhana Yoga. In Navamsha Mars as the 9^th lord is in 3^rd house and is in mutual aspect with Mercury which is lord of 2^nd and 11^th house.

Case 4. Michael Jorden

           17 February 1963, 13:40 hours at Brooklyn, New York

           Longitude: 77 W 56’ and Latitude: 40 N 39’

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Mercury 16 years 11 months 28 Days

The Gemini lagna horoscope of American Basketball Player Michael Jorden has a very special Parashari Raja Yoga. As per ‘Raja Yoga Adhyay’ chapter number 40 sloka number 15 of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra if any planet is associated (by conjunction or aspect) with the lagna of  Shada-Varga (Rashi, Hora, Dreshkkan, Navamsha, Dwadamsha and Trimshamsha) then it gives a big Raja Yoga. As per another variation of this yoga if Janma lagna, Navamsha lagna and Dreshkkan lagna all are under the aspect of a single planet then it gives Raja Yoga. In the horoscope of Michael Jorden Venus is at the degrees of Janma lagna. It aspects the Janma lagna, Navamsha lagna, Dreshkkan lagna and  Dwadamsha lagna from the 7^th house. It is placed in the 7^th house of Rashi, Navamsha, Dreshkkan and Dwadamsha. In Trimshamsha and Hora chart it is placed in the lagna itself. So in all the Shada-Varga (six divisional charts) Venus is influencing the lagna either by its 7^th aspect or by its placement. This yoga made Michael Jorden the greatest Basketball player and a cultural icon who had popularized NBA in the entire world. During his maha dasha of Venus (February 1987 to February 2007) he was the highest earned professional player on the planet.

Also notice here the 8^th lord Saturn is in own house along with lagna lord Mercury. Here Saturn and Mercury in conjunction make a good Raja Yoga for Gemini lagan native. He was born in the maha dasha of Mercury which is in conjunction with the 8^th lord Saturn. In his chart 8^th lord Saturn is not only in its own house but in Navamsha also this Saturn is well placed in the 5^th house. After Mercury’s period it was time for Ketu dasha (February 1980 to February 1987) which brings him into the NBA during 1984. Ketu is conjoined with Mercury-Saturn Raja Yoga. Aspect of Mars on it is a blemish so he become a star in his following dasha of Venus which is in great Parashari Raja Yoga we have discuss above. But now the maha dasha of Mars (February 2023 to February 2030) can give Michael Jorden very serious illness and loss of wealth. Mars is first rate ‘Maraka’ for Gemini lagan and is badly placed in the 2^nd house with Rahu for Michael Jorden endangering his health.

 

Case 5. Amitabh Bacchan

           11 October 1942, 16:00 hours at Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh

           Longitude: 81 E 49’ and Latitude: 25 N 27’

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Rahu 13 years 0 months 26 days

The Aquarius lagna chart of Hindi cinema superstar Amitabh Bachchan is another example on how a strong 8^th lord can give a native very charismatic personality and surprise success. In his chart 8^th lord Mercury is in own house and in Navamsha it is in the 11^th house in friendly sign Leo along with Sun. Interestingly in Navamsha also the 8^th house has its lord placed in it which is Venus. The maha dasha of Saturn (November 1971 to November 1990) made him the biggest star of Hindi cinema. He won many awards and honours during this entire Saturn maha dasha. But the early part of Mercury dasha in 1990’s was bad for his acting career and film production. He was almost about to sell his bungalow and properties to pay loans as there was danger of bankruptcy looming over his head. Mercury-Sun (January 1997 to December 1997), Mercury-Moon (December 1997 to May 1999), Mercury-Mars (May 1999 to May 2000) were the worst periods for his career. Notice here that Mercury as the 8^th lord is also conjoined with 7^th lord Sun, which is in Mrityu Bhang, and also with Mars which is functional malefic for Aquarius lagna native. It was in Mercury-Rahu dasha after May 2000 that he return into prominence with some successful films and a television show.

He is now under Venus dasha since November 2014 which is in good ‘Neecha Bhanga’ Yoga. Venus in Navamsha is in the 8^th house in its own sign promising him a long life. Until Venus-Jupiter in Vimshottari (January 2025 to September 2027) there is no danger to his longevity.

 

Case 6. Queen Elizabeth II

            21 April 1926, 02:40 hours at London, UK

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Mercury 13 years 7 months 12 days

In the Dhanu lagna horoscope of Queen Elizabeth II 8^th lord Moon is in own house. Moon here is very strong as it is in Gaja Kesari Yoga not only in birth chart but in Navamsha also. Her Janma lagna Sagittarius (Dhanu) is Vargottam and the 8^th lord Moon is very strong in both Rashi and Navamsha. In the birth chart Moon get the aspect of lagna lord Jupiter and 5^th lord Mars. In Navamsha Moon as the 8^th lord is getting aspect of 9^th lord Sun and 5^th lord Mars. As per a Parashari rule if the lords of 5^th and 9^th houses influence any planet then it became Karaka for giving good results. Here the lord of 8^th house in the horoscope of Queen Elizabeth II has become very influential. Her coronation happened on 2^nd of June 1953 in dasha of Venus-Mars in Vimshottari. Venus is the lord of 11^th house and Mars as the 5^th lord is in Raja Yoga due to its conjunction with lagna lord Jupiter.

 

In the horoscope of Queen Elizabeth II a strong 8th lord in own house has given her a very good longevity and health. But the Jupiter-Rahu in Vimshottari from July 2021 to December 2023 will be a Maraka period.
