The South-West monsoon season (June-September) has ended with about 12% of deficient rainfall. Out of 36 meteorological sub-divisions 17 received deficient rainfall, 18 received normal rainfall and only 1 (Odisha) has excess rain. It is the lowest monsoon rainfall since year 2015 when India had received 86% of the LPA (long period average) rainfall during June to September period which was 14% deficient than the normal. The Southern Peninsular and North-East part of the country is drought stricken due to very less rainfall. The cultivation of rice and spices in these regions are likely to get affected. Traditionally the Virgo sign signify the Southern parts of the country as in Koorma Chakra divisions Hasta and Chitra Nakshatra signify south direction only. The transiting Saturn from Pisces is giving its 7th aspect to the sign Virgo which is now indicating less than normal rainfall during the North-East monsoon season from October to December this year in the region of Tamil Nadu and other South Indian states.
At present the transiting Mars is in Cancer a watery sign from 18th of September to 12th of November. This may bring an early onset of the North-East monsoon in the southern peninsular. After September month in India when the Northern landmass get cools faster than the ocean then the winds flow from land to sea which brings bring moisture as they cross from the bay of Bengal before reaching the southern peninsular. This bring very useful rainfall in the months from October to December particularly for the state of Tamil Nadu.
This year the North-East monsoon may hit the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu before 10th of October and there will be good rainfall until Mars moves into dry and fiery sign Leo on the 12th of November. Venus will get combust from 12th of October to 28th of October which is an excellent combination for rainfall as per classical text Bhavishya Phal Bhaskar.
Chart 1. Solar Ingress of Libra (Tula Samkranti)

At the time of Sun’s ingress into Libra (17th of October 2026 at 19:51 hours at Delhi) as per the Indian standard time the rising sign is Taurus and the Moon is in fiery sign Sagittarius which shows mixed sign for the North East monsoon rainfall. Although, the transiting Mars from watery sign Cancer will bring an early onset of the rainfall in Tamil Nadu state but later on when Mars will move into dry sign Leo on the 12th of November then there will be long gaps in the rainfall periods.
On the day of the Full Moon (26 October 2026, 09:41:36 hours at Delhi) the mutual aspect of Venus and the Moon will bring rainfall in many parts of Southern Peninsular. By then the North East monsoon would have covered Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalseema, Kerala and South interior Karnataka region.
Chart 2. Solar Ingress of Scorpio (Vrischik Samkranti)

At the time of Sun’s entry into Scorpio (16 November 2026, 19:42 hours at Delhi) as per the Indian standard time the close degree conjunction of Ketu, Mars and Jupiter in the sign Leo shows obstruction in the rainfall. In the second fortnight of November month and first fortnight of December there will be less than normal rainfall in the state of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka as per the season. But since the Moon at the time of solar ingress of Scorpio is in watery sign Capricorn and in Navamsha it is in Cancer so around the Sun’s entry into Scorpio on 16th of November and then on the day of the Full Moon on 24th of November there shall be good rainfall in interior areas of Tamil Nadu and also in city of Chennai.
At the time of Sun’s entry into Sagittarius (16 December 2026, 10:25 a.m. at Delhi) the planetary directions are not conducive for the rainfall. The windy planet Rahu will be ahead of the Sun in Capricorn sign. However, since Mercury will be behind the Sun so there shall be some rainfall in the end of December month and also in first week of January 2027.
But overall there will be less than normal rainfall this year during the North-East monsoon season (October to December) particularly in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka state.
