Ratan Tata is regarded as one of the most inspirational industrialist of India. During his chairmanship of Tata Group from 1991 to 2014 company’s revenue grew over 40 times and profit by over 50 times. He made Tata Group from a large India-centric industrial conglomerate to a multi-national group owning more than 100 companies. In the Dhanu (Sagittarius) lagna birth chart 9th lord (luck) Sun is with 7th (business) and 10th lord (Karma) Mercury in a grand Raja Yoga. As per Sage Parashara for Dhanu lagna natives Sun and Mercury gives the best Raja Yoga if they are strongly related with each other in conjunction or exchange of houses. In case of Ratan Tata this yoga is even stronger as 11th lord Venus is conjoined with it making a great Dhana Yoga adding to its strength. The conjunction of 9th lord Sun with 11th lord Venus is a good Dhana Yoga. Then notice the exchange of houses between 2nd lord Saturn and 4th lord Jupiter. These are all yogas for joining big venture or business of family.
Kemadruma Moon and Gajakesari Yoga in Ratan Tata’s horoscope
A Kemadruma Moon is a very prominent feature of the Ratan Tata’s horoscope. In a horoscope where Dhana Yoga’s and Raja Yoga’s are present this Kemadruma Moon act differently. Such person is focused on his ‘Karma’ with sincere dedication and since in this horoscope Jupiter, 5th house/lord, 9th house/lord and 12th house/lord are decent so he is doing charity at a very large scale.
The Moon sign lord is Venus which is conjoined with Sun the 11th lord from Moon and also with the Mercury which is 9th and 12th lord from Moon. This combination has made him a philanthropist of higher repute. Unlike Ambani’s and Adani’s he is sharing his wealth for the betterment of society. In the horoscope of Mukesh Ambani and birth chart of Anil Ambani the Moon and Jupiter are under affliction by malefic planets so it had made them money-minded Industrialists who are not much interested in doing good for the society despite being super rich. Ratan Tata is not even a billionaire now despite his companies making huge profit as he donate reportedly 60% to 65% of his profit for charitable purposes through Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust.
Notice the beautiful ‘Gaja Kesari’ yoga in the horoscope of Ratan Tata. Jupiter is debliteated but it is causing a ‘Neecha Bhanga’ as its sign lord Saturn is in Kendra from Janma lagna. Jupiter is in Kendra from Moon which is making a good Gaja Kesari yoga. The position of Moon in the 11th house of gains and Jupiter in the 2nd house made him a respected industrialist. Saturn and Mars giving aspect to the 10th house from lagna shows his industrial spirits in manufacturing ventures in the areas of steel and automobiles. In Navamsha , Aries the 5th house of birth chart, is rising with Moon in the lagna flanked by two benefic planets Venus and Jupiter in their own sign. Moon as the 4th lord is in the lagna under the aspect of lagna lord Mars. Then lagna lord Mars and 5th lord Sun in mutual aspect are making a very big Raja Yoga.
Why Ratan Tata remained a bachelor ?
In an interview Ratan Tata disclosed that he came closed to getting married four times but he backed off in fear or for one reason or the another. One can see this astrologically in the horoscope of Ratan Tata who’s 7th lord Mercury is combust with Sun and also get the aspect of Saturn. In Navamsha , Rahu is in the 7th house from lagna and Moon which is getting the aspect of Saturn from the 5th house which denied him marriage because of some kind of unfounded fear. In birth chart one can see the 7th house from Moon is under ‘Paap-Kartari’ yoga. Saturn and Ketu are flanking the 7th house from Moon giving a negative signal for marriage. In the interview given to Times of India in April 2011 Ratan Tata said that he seriously fallen in love on four occasion but didn’t got married for various reasons which he did not regret as he felt that things would have been more complex had marriage taken place. On first occasion it was in 1962 when Ratan Tata was in love with an American women but he has to come back to India because of his grandmother’s ill-health. The girl with whom Ratan Tata was in love didn’t come to India despite earlier commitment and married in the USA with someone else later. It was the dasha of Saturn-Sun in Vimshottari in the horoscope of Ratan Tata which gave him his first heart-break.
Early life and Education of Ratan Tata
Ratan Tata’s father Naval Tata and mother Sonoo Tata were separated in 1948 when he was just 10 year old kid. The Kemadruma Moon has to give its effects. Also notice the aspect of Saturn on his natal Sun (father) in the birth chart. The 3rd house, which is 7th from the 9th house of father and 12th from the 4th house of mother has Mars a hard malefic planet. The 4th house has Saturn and 4th lord Jupiter is debliteated. In Jupiter-Mars dasha in Vimshottari his parents got separated. He was raised by his grandmother Navajbai Tata. He received a degree in architecture from Cornell University in New York during Saturn-Venus dasha in Vimshottari in 1959. The connection of 4th (land), 5th (education) and 10th (career) houses/lords in the birth chart of Ratan Tata shows his higher education in architecture.
From 1961 to 1970 he worked in small positions at various Tata Group companies as per the tradition of Tata Sons’. This was the maha dasha of Saturn in his horoscope which ran from 1952 to 1971 showing handwork at ground level.
Maha Dasha of Mercury and Rata Tata’s rise in Tata Group
Then came the dasha of Mercury from 1971 when he was inducted into the management of Tata Group. Notice here Mercury is in a big Raja Yoga and Dhana Yoga which we have discuss in the beginning. Maha Dasha of Mercury from 1971 to 1988 made him rise at great levels. He become the blue eye boy of Tata Group with its then chairman J.R.D. Tata preferring him over other senior members. In 1991 when J.R.D. Tata declared his name for the post of new Tata Group chairman then it surprised many. During that time Tata Group of companies were in-charge with legendary industrialist figures like Russi Mody at Tata Steel, Darbari Seth at Tata Chemicals, Ajit Karkar at Indian Hotels and Nani Palkhivala at ACC. These doyen’s of Tata Group were much more senior than Ratan Tata. They were more experience and many believe that more deserving than Ratan Tata to head the group. But then luck was with Ratan Tata as J.R.D. Tata has made up his mind much earlier. It was Ketu-Rahu dasha in the horoscope of Ratan Tata when he become the chairman of Tata Group in 1991 and faced problems in early years. In 1993 J.R.D. Tata and Ratan Tata had to force Russi Mody to retire because of his clashes in the group.
See the position of Ketu in the 6th house in the birth chart of Ratan Tata. The Ketu maha dasha ( January 1988 to January 1995) gave him some strife with senior industrialist in Tata Group. Ketu is also under the aspects of Mars and Saturn. But since Ketu’s depositor Venus is in good Raja Yoga and Dhana Yoga so Rata Tata managed to overcome all the difficulties in his initial years of chairmanship of Tata Group of companies. Then also notice here the good position of Ketu in Navamsha and Dashamsha which helped him during these tough years.
Great Rise of Ratan Tata during Venus maha dasha
The maha dasha of Venus from January 1995 to January 2015 were the great productive years for Rata Tata who led Tata Group to buy many companies in abroad and also he made investments in various start-up companies in India. He boldly led Tata Tea to acquire Tetley, Tata Motors to acquire Land Rover and Jagur and Tata Steel to acquire Corus. This made Tata Group the largest Indian multinational conglomerate who’s 65% profit comes from sales and operations in more than 100 countries around the world. Venus as the 6th lord made him highly competitive and courageous during its maha dasha. Since Venus is also the lord of 11th house (gains) conjoined with 7th (business) and 10th lord (Karma) Mercury along with 9th lord (luck) Sun in the best possible Raja Yoga and Dhana Yoga for Dhanu lagna so success has to follow him during its dasha. It is very rarely you can find such great horoscope having Raja Yoga’s, Dhana Yogas along with a good dasha order. Now see the position of Venus in Navamsha and Dashamsha it is strongly placed in the 2nd house without any blemish which gave Rata Tata grand success in business with a taint-less image which is rare for industrialist in modern times.
Ratan Tata’s retirement and his strife with Cyrus Mistry
In year 2012 when Rata Tata was passing through his ‘Sadhe-Sati’, as Saturn was transiting from Virgo then, he declared his retirement. It was Venus-Mercury dasha in Vimshottari when he retired from the post of chairman of Tata Groups on 28 December 2012 and nominated his successor Cyrus Mistry. But in 2014 the dispute between him and Cyrus Mistry started coming out. It was Venus-Ketu dasha in Vimshottari in the horoscope of Ratan Tata then. Ketu is in the 6th house again put him under strife this time with much junior member of Tata family Cyrus Mistry who reportedly had proposed to give a 10 Crore electoral funding in 2014 to a political party during Orissa assembly elections in 2014. Ratan Tata’s nominee in Tata Son’s board argue against it as it was against the principal of Tata Group who only give electoral funding during parliament elections and that too from a Trust build by them. There were disputes between Ratan Tata and Cyrus Mistry on many other big projects. Later on 24 October 2016 Rata Tata was again made the Chairman of Tata Group for an interim period when he was under Sun-Rahu dasha in Vimshottari. Sun maha dasha ( January 2015 to January 2021) has to confer him fame and shows continuing work in some form or other. But then on 12 January 2017 Natarajan Chandrashakeran was made the Chairman of Tata Group who is the first Chairman which is not from the Tata Family.
Future of Ratan Tata
The present dasha of Sun-Ketu from September 2019 to January 2020 looks bad for Rata Tata’s health. Sun and Ketu are in 6/8 position in the birth chart. Transiting Saturn and Ketu are over his natal Sun in Sagittarius at present which is not good. The Sun-Venus dasha in year 2020 can give him a very big award which could be of international fame for philanthropy he does. Venus as the 11th lord of gains shows it. In Chara dasha Virgo-Libra period from December 2019 to September 2020 shows getting big award and also health issues. Virgo get the Jaimini aspects of Sun (Bhatrikaraka), Venus (Darakaraka), Mercury (Amatayakaraka) and Saturn (Ganatikaraka) explains it amply.
