The Chaitra Shukla Pratipada marks the beginning of New Year as per the ancient Hindu traditions. It is believe that on the day of the New Moon in the month of Chaitra the lord Brahma had created the universe. Therefore this day carries a special importance for Hindus and they celebrate it since time immortal. The traditional Hindu families use to listen to the ‘Samvatsar-Phala’ or ‘Panchang Shravana’ from their astrologer on this day. The astrologers customarily cast the horoscope of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada or Hindu New Year along with the planetary cabinet for giving a forecast about the trends of the coming year. The classics of mundane astrology, like Varsha Prabohdha and Bhavisya Phala Bhaskara , mentions about this popular tradition of listening to the result of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada chart from the astrologer , which was consider to be an auspicious and an integral part of the celebration of the new year by Hindus.
This year the horoscope of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada or Pisces New Moon will be casted for the day 7th of April at 16 hours and 53 minutes at Delhi. The lord of the year or King of the year will be the day lord of the next day to the 7th of April which is Friday in this case as the Pratipada tithi will be there at the time of sunrise then. As per the Hindu calendar the new tithi starts only after the sunrise. So the day lord of Friday i.e. Venus will become the king of the year. It is to be noted here that chart of the Chaitra Shukla Pratipada is prepared for the time when the luminaries the Sun and Moon reaches at the same degrees in Pisces (Meena) sign. But for ascertaining the lord of the Hindu New year it needs to be finding out on which weekday at the time of sunrise the first tithi of Pratpada is starting.

But in astrology we can’t afford to reach at any conclusion with just analyzing only a single factor. For giving yearly predications a systematic analysis of Hindu New Year chart, foundation chart of a country, horoscopes of its states, charts of country ruler, important lunar and solar ingress charts, and study of transiting planets at various Chakras are all required simultaneously.

- The lagna and 10th lord Mercury is falling in the 8th house which is a clear indication of trouble for the ruling government and prime minister. It is a combination of death of some important leader from the ruling party which could happen in the first half of year 2016. There will be major reshuffling in the cabinet of central government in the first 3 months of Hindu New Year.
- The luminaries ( Sun and Moon) are in the 7th house of war. There is an exchange between the 7th lord Jupiter and the 12th lord Sun. It is a combination of sex scandal, espionage, secret plots, international disputes and trouble from foreign secret agents.
- The 2nd and 9th lord Venus exalted in the 7th house is a good combination for foreign trades, international diplomacy and judicial reforms.
- The 3rd house has Mars and Saturn which is bad for the relationship with neighbors. It may also give troubles to the journalist, authors and sports persons of the country by their involvement in some scandals.
- The affliction to the 3rd house and 4th lord Jupiter falling in the 12th house of losses also shows a possibility of a tragic rail or air accident during the fortnight starting from 7th of April.

Now we will study these major indications from the Hindu New Year chart along with other relevant horoscopes to reach out some possible trends for year 2016-17.
International Affairs- In mundane astrology the fifth house signifies ambassadors and diplomats from foreign countries. This year the Virgo sign is rising in the ascendant of Hindu New Year which is the 5th house of the foundation chart of India.

In the Hindu New year chart the 5th and 6th lord Saturn is conjoined with 3rd and 8th lord Mars. This combination has many sinister meanings. Some foreign diplomats will be caught in espionage and scandals which would affect the relationship with foreign countries. In transit the long stay of Saturn and Mars in Scorpio is very dangerous for India specially Delhi-NCR which is ruled by this zodiacal sign as per classics of mundane astrology. The Saturn and Mars will be kept hovering over the 7th house of the foundation chart of India until 18th of September when Mars will left Scorpio sign.
The Mars will become retrograde in the Scorpio sign on the 17th of April. On the 18th of June 2016 the Mars will come into Libra in retrograde motion and it will later go back to Scorpio again to join Saturn there on the July 13th. The Mars will leave Scorpio sign only on the 18th of September thus ending its association with Saturn then.
The Saturn will be in retrograde motion in the Scorpio sign from the 20th of February 2016 to 14th of August 2016. Translation: When Saturn is transiting from Anuradha and Jyeshtha Nakshatra then there will be calamitous war in the west direction.
So it would be the western border of India and the west direction from India that will be affected by a ruinous territorial war. India and Pakistan is likely to have a territorial conflict any time between the months of April-May- June at the borders of Jammu & Kashmir and/or Punjab. In the Middle East the western powers will get involve in a big war against the ISIS. The Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Syria and Egypt will be affected with this war which would be worst since the World War II in the 1940s.
This will affect India’s foreign relations with many countries. The war between Israel ( 14 May 1948 at 16:00 hours, Tel Aviv) and Palestine in the first half of 2016 will put India under a diplomatic crisis. India recognized Palestine statehood and provides it $10 million relief annually. However, the new BJP government at the center led by Narendra Modi is looking more inclined towards Israel to get strategic help in countering the threat from the Islamist terrorism which is affecting the both nations since many decades now. Israel is the second largest supplier of military equipment’s to India after Russia. Israel has Virgo lagna and its Moon sign is Cancer which is in favorable position from Narendra Modi’s Moon in Scorpio. So India may further strengthen its strategic ties with Israel which may ignite many Muslim countries.
India’s bilateral relations with China may also suffer in 2016 due to Prime Minister Modi’s tough stand against Pakistan. Modi may give a green signal to initiate a covert operation to kill Dawood Ibrahim and Hafiz Sayeed hiding out in Pakistan. In the Hindu New Year chart the placement of lagan and 10th lord Mercury in the 8th house is an indication of a secret plan by the government against it enemies. Domestic Affairs : The Hindu new year 2016-17 will mark with sex scandals involving high profile peoples, scams and political espionages is what I have already mention in my analysis of this chart at the beginning. The exchange between the 7th lord Jupiter and 12th lord Sun is a combination for these in the Rashi chart. The 7th lord Jupiter is in Rahuj-Ketu axis and is under the close degree aspect of retrograde Saturn. In Navamsha the situation has become worst where the 7th lord Moon is conjoined with 8th lord Sun and they are under the aspect of Mars. The 7th house in mundane astrology signifies sex scandal and celebrity marriages apart from many of its other significations.
A major political sex scandal will rock the BJP ( 6 April 1980, 11:45 hours at Delhi) led government at the center. A break of celebrity relationship will also hit the headlines of national media. These events will happen between April to June the time when transiting Saturn and Mars would have been in close conjunction hovering at the 7th house of the foundation chart of India. These political scams and sex scandals may force Prime Minister Modi to take tough action against some of his cabinet colleagues.
It will also have their impact on the assembly polls in May 2016. The assembly polls in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal and Pondicherry will let down the BJP. The Congress ( 2 January 1978, 12:00 hours, Delhi) party might stage a comeback in these assembly polls. The party would have been under favorable Jupiter-Ketu dasha in Vimshottari which may bring her into power with the help of alliances in Assam and Kerala states.
In West Bengal the Trinamoola Congress ( 1 January 1988, 11:00 hours at Kolkata) may come back to power but with a reduce majority this time. The party would have been under Rahu-Mercury dasha in their Pisces lagan chart. In Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry assembly polls the Jayalalita ( 24 February 1948, 13:07 hours at Melukote) will have an edge over her opponents. She is likely to become the chief minister again in her Jupiter-Saturn-Venus dasha running then. But in the second half of 2016 there will be trouble in her health and an unfavorable judgment by the apex court may bring some difficulty in her political career.
Economic Affairs: In the Hindu New Year chart 2016 the placement of 2nd lord Venus and 11th lord Moon in the 7th house shows that there will be some favorable tax reforms in the country. The government may bring major changes in income tax act and GST (goods and services tax). The Modi government will also try to bring back the black money stashed in foreign banks after the July when the Moon-Mars dasha in Vimshottari will start in the foundation chart of country {Refer to the foundation chart of India} . Mars is the 12th lord in the foundation chart of India place in the 2nd house of finances.
Second house signifies the revenues of the state and national wealth. The eleventh house in mundane astrology signifies gains from foreign trade. The combination of Venus-Moon in the Hindu New Year chart is indicating that earning of the central government will increase from tax reforms and foreign trade. However, the global recession in 2016 might bring down the FDI’s ( Foreign direct investments) into India. The combine effect of global recession and war in the middle-east will bring down the prices in real estate sector significantly. The prices of Gold will start increasing though after Jupiter, which along with Sun is the karaka of this yellow metal, will come into Virgo in the second week of August 2016.
In the agriculture sector there will be some serious disappointments. The 4th house signifies the agriculture in mundane astrology. In the Hindu New Year chart the 4th lord Jupiter is falling in the 12th house and is under tremendous afflictions. This is not a very happy situation. There will be a draught like situation right from the month of April due to the effects of Saturn-Mars conjunction in transit. The state of Maharashatra and Gujarat, signified by Leo sign, would be the worst affected. The scanty rain during the south-west monsoon will bring down the farm production resulting into high prices of food items and scarcity of water.
Religious Affairs: In mundane astrology the religious matters are observed from the 9th house and Jupiter. In the current Hindu New Year chart the 9th lord becomes the Venus which is exalted and well place in the 7th house. However, the Venus is debilitated in the Navamsha which is not a very happy situation. The 9th house is under the malefic aspects by Mars and Saturn both functional malefic for this chart. Jupiter is in Rahu-Ketu axis under the close degree aspect of Saturn. The Jupiter’s placement in Leo-Aquarius axis is specially consider dangerous for religious matters as the Aquarius (Kumbha) is a rashi of temples or places of worship.
So this year the religious dispute might become dangerous enough to ignite communal tensions in many states. The Utter Pradesh ( 1 April 1937, 00:00 hours mid night at Lucknow) will be the worst affected state as it is under enigmatic Rahu-Jupiter dasha in her Sagittarius lagna chart. The state of Utter Pradesh has her natal Moon in Scorpio which will be under the influence of transiting Saturn and Mars in the first half of 2016. This will bring riots in this state over various religious matters. The Hindu organizations and BJP leaders might again raise the issue of putting a nationwide ban on cow-slaughter, common civil code and Ayodhya Ram Temple.
