Pope Francis : the great progressive reformer

August 8, 2020 By Sachin Malhotra

Ever since Pope Francis has held the Papacy (position of Pontiff) in March 2013 he has remain less formal than that of his immediate predecessors. He has been more concern for reaching out to the poor and have himself lived his life with great austerity. Pope Francis has chosen not to live in the official Papal resident, which is a big palace, but to remain in the Vatican guest house so that he can easily receive the visitors. This has made him easily accessible to the common people. He has repeatedly urged the world leaders to fight social inequality and increasing poverty caused by neoliberalism. Pope Francis is having an interesting role in the international diplomacy. In year 2014-15 he played a key role in restoring diplomatic relations between USA and Cuba. In May 2014 his visit to the state of Israel was heavily publicized. In February 2019 recently he visited Abu Dhabi, in UAE, on the invitation of Mohammad Bin Zayed the crown prince of Emirate. Pope Francis is the first Pope ever to visit any Arabian country. He hold a Papal mass with more than 1.2 Lakh (more than one million) attendees in Zayed sports stadium there.

astrological predictions about Pope Francis

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Moon 2 years 9 months 28 days

The Gemini (Mithuna) lagna horoscope of Pope Francis is cast on the basis of his birth details given at his birth certificate (Reference link : https://www.astro.com/astro-databank/Pope_Francis_I. )  Pope Francis was born as Jorge Mario Bergogilo in Buenos Aires the capital of Argentina in a middle class family. He was eldest among 5 children which is astrologically clear as his 11th lord is in own Nakshatra. The 11th house lord or 3rd house lord in own Nakshatra can make a native eldest or youngest among siblings or brother/sisters. The Rahu in the 3rd or 11th house also does the same. {Refer to my article- Drekkana chart and astrological combinations for brothers-sisters}

In case of Pope Francis the 11th lord Mars is in own Nakshatra Chitra making him the eldest among co-born. A strong 9th lord Saturn in own house shows a religious career. The 7th lord Jupiter is combust by Sun and is under double affliction from malefic planets. An afflicted  7th lord shows his lack of interest in materialist matters since early years of his life.

Early education and health problems

Now notice the Moon which is in the 8th house of ‘Sadhana’ along with 5th lord Venus which made him study religious texts. The conjunction of Moon-Venus is also a combination for the study of chemistry. He graduated from secondary school as chemistry technician. It was the maha dasha of Rahu (from 1946 to 1964) that made him study technical subject initially. In year 1957 at the age of 21 he suffered from a life threatening phenomena when dasha of Rahu-Ketu in Vimshottari was in operation. See the affliction on the lagna lord Mercury which is in Rahu-Ketu axis and under the aspect of Mars from the 4th house of lungs. Moon the karaka for lungs is in the 8th house. In Navamsha the Rahu-Ketu covers the 2/8 axis which has to give him a dangerous disease during their dasha. The Chara dasha was of Pisces which get the aspects of Atamakaraka Mars, Darakaraka Sun, Ganatikaraka Jupiter and Rahu. But the aspects of Mercury and Jupiter, which are natural benefic planets,  on this Rashi dasha saved his life. A part of his lung was removed. Thus he is practically living with one functional lung since then.

birth chart of Pope Francis

Joining the Jesuit to become Priest

In 1958 Bergogilo entered the Society of Jesus during the Rahu-Ketu dasha in Vimshottari in the month of March. For next 3 years during his Rahu-Venus dasha from May 1958 to May 1961 he studied humanities and philosophy. See the lordship of Venus here which is the 5th lord. He also said that “as a young seminarian, he had a crush on a girl he met and briefly doubted about continuing a religious career”. Astrologically one can easily understand this important event in the life of Bergogilo, who is now Pope Francis, as he was then under the Rahu-Venus dasha in Vimshottari which is well known to bring an intense attraction towards opposite sex. However since Bergogilo having a strong Saturn in the 9th house was destined for a great religious career so he has to march towards the path of divinity.

Ordained to the Priesthood

The maha dasha of Jupiter started in 1964 which gave him intense religious studies.  In 1967 he finished his theological studies and was ordained to the priesthood on 13 December 1969 during Jupiter-Mercury dasha in Vimshottari. Jupiter, the planet of Dharma, is with Sun making a ‘Raja Lakshan Yoga’. In Chandra Kundali Jupiter is the lord of 12th house in own Rashi with 9th lord Mercury in a great yoga for religious career. In Navamsha Jupiter as the lord of Navamsha is giving aspect to the 9th house from its sign of exaltation. Notice here the 4 planets aspect to the 9th house of Navamsha chart which make it extraordinary strong. In Dashamsha Jupiter as the 5th lord is in own house along with 9th lord Moon in mutual aspect with Saturn showing a religious career. See the strong 9th house in Dashamsha again here an exalted Mars, Venus and Jupiter all give aspect to the 9th house. In Vimshamsha chart, which is important for spiritual or religious life, Jupiter is in the 9th house along with Saturn the Karaka for Vairagya.

horoscope of Pope Francis

Progress in religious career during Saturn maha dasha

The maha dasha of 9th lord Saturn ( 1980 to 1999) in own house in birth chart gave him immense progress in his religious career and his work for the welfare of poor was highly appreciated in Argentina. He became Auxiliary Bishop of Buenos  Aires  on 27 June 1992 during his Saturn-Moon dasha in Vimshottari. The transiting Saturn was in Makar Rashi over his natal Moon so it was a ‘Sadhe-Sati’ in 1992 for Bergogilo giving him a new responsibility. Moon is with the 5th lord in Rashi chart and in Dashamsha chart both. Any planet in association with 5th and/or 9th lord can give Raja Yoga as per Bhriat Parashra Hora Shastra. In Vimshamsha Moon is the lord of lagna and is exalted in the 11th house of gains.

On 21st of February 2001 he became cardinal when he was pasting by Mercury-Mercury in Vimshottari.

Elected as Pope

It was in Mercury-Jupiter in Vimshottari on 13 March 2013 when cardinal Bergogilo was elected as a Pope. He chooses Francis as his papal name in the honour of Saint Francis of Assisi. Throughout his public life Pope Francis has been noted for his humility and concern for poor. A strong Jupiter in own Rashi and in exalted in Navamsha explains his humanitarian approach. An unafflicted  Saturn in Rashi and Navamsha gives him concern for the poor.

Sadhe-Sati of Pope Francis

The Pope Francis is now under his fourth ‘Sadhe-Sati’ of his life. Saturn is transiting in the Sagittarius at present which is the 12th house of his natal Moon in Capricorn Rashi. On the 25th of December Saturn will ingress into Capricorn. In the next 2.5 years Saturn would then  be transiting over his natal Moon and in Vimshottari he is passing through the maha dasha of malefic Ketu (October 2016 to October 2023) which is clearly showing some concern for his health at serious level. The maha dasha of Ketu is the 7th dasha of his life which for a ‘Poorna Aayu’ Kundali can become Maraka (fatal for life).

In Jaimini Chara dasha it is the period of Gemini from December 2019 to December 2025. Gemini sign having Ketu is getting the Jaimini aspects of Mars (Atamakaraka), Rahu , Jupiter (Ganatikaraka), Sun (Darakaraka) and Mercury (Matrikaraka). Except Mercury and to some extent Jupiter all these planets giving aspect to Dasha Rashi Gemini are very sensitive for his health. Ganatikaraka is disease giving planet while Darakaraka can be fatal for life when other Maraka Dashas are running.

In transit the Rahu-Ketu axis are at their natal position in the horoscope of Pope Francis. A Lunar and then a Solar Eclipse will fall over his lagna and 7th houses in the months of June-July next year which can give him bad health. Ketu-Rahu dasha in Vimshottari would be running from September 2019 to October 2020. This can give some kind of infection which could be related with lungs also considering his weak 4th house and natal Moon in the 8th house. The subsequent dasha of Ketu-Jupiter (October 2020 to September 2021) is also not very favourable for the health of Pope Francis. He may have to retire due to serious health issues during 2020-2022. The Ketu-Rahu period in 2020 and Ketu-Jupiter in year 2021 will aggravate his health problems and can end his religious career. Pope Francis will be remember as a great progressive reformer of catholic church for a long time.

Dalai Lama’s Budha Aditya Yoga

August 22, 2019 By Sachin Malhotra

The conjunction of Sun-Mercury gives ‘Budha Aditya yoga’ or ‘Nipuna Yoga’ which is very common as Mercury remains close to Sun most of the time. But for this yoga to fructify Mercury must be very strong being placed in its own sign or in its own Navamsha. The horoscope of Dalai Lama is a classical example of a wonderful ‘Budha Aditya Yoga’ and ‘Sanyasa Yoga’. In the Gemini lagna horoscope of Dalai Lama Sun and Mercury are strongly placed in the Janma lagna under the benefic aspect of Jupiter from the 5th house. The Mercury is the lord of lagna and Sun is the ‘Chandra Rashi Pati’ i.e. Moon sign lord making a beautiful ‘Sanyasa Yoga’. I have discuss this yoga for spirituality in my article posted in this blog last year with title ‘Astrological Yogas For Spirituality’.  The lord of Janma lagna and Chandra lagna if get connected by P.A.C. (position, aspect or conjunction) then they give a person high level of awareness provided some other spiritual combinations are present in a horoscope.

Dalai Lama’s horoscope has great yogas for spirituality beside the above mention ‘Sanyasa Yoga’. The Dalai Lama’s are believed by Tibetan Buddhist  to be the manifestation of ‘Bodhisattva’ of compassion and the patron saint of Tibet. The Tibetan people have faith in the philosophy of reincarnation and they believe that Dalai Lama’s are realized beings who take rebirths in the world to spread the message of peace and help spiritual seekers to attain enlightenment.

In the horoscope of Dalai Lama the strong connection between the 5th house and 8th house lords shows the spiritual legacy of past births. In the Gemini lagna chart the 5th lord Venus is in mutual aspect with 8th and 9th lord Saturn astrologically explains the spiritual bliss he has got from previous births. Mercury in his own sign in the lagna makes ‘Bhadra Mahapurush’ Yoga in the horoscope of Dalai Lama.  Currently Dalai Lama is running with Vimshottari Dasha of Saturn-Mars from April 2019 to May 2020 that shows a server danger to his health and longevity. Saturn and Mars are both functional malefic for Gemini lagna showing a danger to his longevity in next one year.

Horoscope of 14th Dalai Lama

Dalai Lama Horoscope

Dalai Lama horoscope

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Venus 14 years 3 months 3 days

In the horoscope of 14th Dalai Lama the lagna Gemini (Mithuna) is Vargottama with Ketu placed in it. The ‘Kevalya-Karaka’ or ‘Moksha-Karaka’ Ketu is also Vargottama. The lagan lord Mercury is getting the auspicious aspect of Jupiter in both Rashi and Navamsha charts. The 9th lord Saturn is in own house in the sign Aquarius under the aspect of Jupiter. A strong Saturn in the 9th house makes one a great ‘Tapasvi’ or Monk. The retrograde Jupiter in the 5th house and a retrograde Saturn in the 9th house are making yogas for learning ‘Tantra’ or secret techniques of meditation. The retrograde planets in the trine (1st, 5th and 9th) houses gives one an inclination to go towards deep meditation or Tantrik practices as per the nature of the horoscope indicating. Similarly the malefic planets in the 5th and 9th houses from Karakamsha lagna also gives one inclination to learn ‘Tantrik’ practices as per Jaimini Sutras. But these combinations should not be used as per their literal meanings. One should analysis the divisional horoscopes and also study if other supporting yogas for spiritual practices are present in a horoscope or not ?

Dalai Lama’s Atamakaraka Mars is in Leo (Simha) in the Navamsha chart so his Karakamsha lagna is Leo. The Moon and Venus in Karakamsha lagna makes him an eloquent speaker and wonderful writer. Jupiter give its Jaimini aspect to the Karakamsha lagna making it more strong. It is rare to find a horoscope where Jupiter gives aspect to Janma lagna, Karakamsha lagan , Janama lagna lord and Navamsha lagna lord. Dalai Lama’s horoscope is very unique and amazing.

Why Dalai Lama had to fled from Tibet ?

Now notice the affliction to the 4th house from Janma lagna and Chandra lagna in the horoscope of Dalai Lama. Mars is placed in the 4th house from his Janma lagna. The 4th house from the Moon is getting the aspect of Saturn. In Navamsha Saturn aspect the 4th house where Moon is placed. So the 4th house of motherland is getting afflicted everywhere. In year 1959 , during the Tibetan uprising against the Chinese atrocities , Dalai Lama fled from Tibet  and took political asylum in India. Dalai Lama came to India on 30th of March 1959 in Tezpur Assam and later setup ‘Government  of Tibet in Exile’ at Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh. Since then Dalai Lama lives in McLeod Ganj in a suburb of Dharamshala in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. He had given this Gemini lagna horoscope to late Pandit Hardeo Sharma Shastri Trivedi of Solan Himacahl Pradesh few decades ago. Pandit Hardeo Sharma ji passed the horoscope of Dalai Lama to my teacher Shri K.N.Rao from whom i have got the same.

Dalai Lama Kundali

When Dalai Lama had fled from Tibet he was under the Vimshottari dasha of Moon-Jupiter. In the Mithuna lagna kundali of Dalai Lama Moon is the 2nd lord and Jupiter is the 7th lord both ‘Maraka’ planets showing threat to his life then. The Chinese army wanted to capture Dalai Lama and it is said that he fled from Tibet to India with the help of CIA. Now see the Dashamsha horoscope to understand why Dalai Lama is a ‘king without his kingdom’. In Dashamsha chart of Dalai Lama the lagna lord Saturn falls in the 6th house of enemies. The 6th lord is in the 12th house with 10th lord Mars showing troubles and losses from enemies. The 4th lord Venus is in the 8th house in Dashamsha chart is with Rahu and they are getting the bad aspect of Saturn showing the loss of kingdom. This is the tragedy of Dalai Lama’s life that he has to live away from his motherland and his own people. Almost his whole life has been spend in foreign land.

Interestingly China has Capricorn lagna and Moon also in the lagna. The Dalai Lama’s Janma lagna Gemini is the 6th house from the Janma lagna and Moon of China showing enmity. Dalai Lama’s Moon is in Leo which is the 8th house of the foundation chart of China. This astrologically explain why China drove away this Tibetan head of the state from his own kingdom.

Dalai Lama’s foreign travels

Dalai Lama has traveled more than 62 countries spreading the message of peace and non-violence. He had given innumerable lectures on Buddhism, science, economics, women rights, environment, reproductive health, astronomy etc. all over the world. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 when he was under Rahu-Moon dasha in Vimshottari. Rahu is Vargottama in the 7th house showing his popularity in foreign countries. Moon is with 5th lord Venus and in mutual aspect with 9th lord Saturn in the Rashi chart.

The strong 9th lord in own house in the horoscope of Dalai Lama is under the aspect of Jupiter and Venus two benefic planets is a great combination for  long foreign tours as per ‘Jataka Tattvam’ a classical text of astrology.

Dalai Lama Kundali

Now see the Vimshamsha (D-20) chart of Dalai Lama. Here the 8th house of his Janma lagna is rising and Jupiter aspect it showing mysterious spiritual linage. The lagna lord of Vimshamsha is Saturn which is with Moon and they are in mutual aspect with Jupiter the Karaka of ‘Dharma’. The 5th lord Venus and 9th lord Mercury both are exalted here. The 5th lord and 9th lords are in mutual aspect with each other at 3/9 axis of religious preaching. In the Rashi chart also this yoga is present where the 5th lord is Venus which is in the 3rd house in mutual aspect with 9th lord Saturn in the 9th house.

It is a cardinal principal of Hindu astrology that ‘if a yoga in Rashi chart repeats in the concerned divisional horoscope’ then it gives its full possible result. Notice the position of 5th lord and 9th lords in Rashi and Vimshamsha of Dalai Lama how they are connected with each other at the 3/9 axis making him an unparalleled religious preacher who got respect all over the world. He is a great philosopher of humanity and self-awareness.

Health and Longevity concern for Dalai Lama

Dalai Lama is at the age of 84 now under the ‘Maraka’ Dasha’s of Saturn-Mars ( from April 2019 to May 2020) in Vimshottari to be followed by another fatal period of Saturn-Rahu. Saturn is in mutual aspect with 2nd lord Venus so it become a ‘Maraka’ for Mithuna lagna horoscope of Dalai Lama. Mars the functional malefic for being 6th and 11th lord is giving aspect to the 7th house, a Maraka house, in Rashi chart. Saturn is in the 7th house from Moon and Mars is in the 2nd house from Moon so both becomes ‘Maraka’ from Chandra lagna also. If Dalai Lama somehow survive this fatal Saturn-Mars dasha, which ends in May 2020, then the  Saturn-Rahu can also become dangerous  for his health. Rahu is in the 7th house under the bad aspect of Mars.

Dalai Lama horoscope

Saturn-Mars dasha in the horoscope of Dalai Lama is running from April 2019 to May 2020. There are three important eclipses to come across the Gemini-Sagittarius axis. One is on the 26th of December 2019 a solar eclipse in Sagittarius and other two will be in June 2020 across the same axis. This is why this dasha of Saturn-Mars could be fatal for him. Saturn-Mars are in 6/8 position in both Rashi and Navamsha. In Trimshamsha Saturn and Mars are in 2/8 position which is also not good. Then Rahu sub period to follow which is in the 7th house of Rashi, Navamsha and Trimshamsha ( Read Rahu in the 7th from Ketu in Trimshamsha). So next 2 years are very dangerous for the health and longevity of Dalai Lama. The periods around December 2019 and June 2020 will be the most difficult for him.

After the demise of Dalai Lama there will be a controversy over his successor between India and China. Dalai Lama has already indicated this that he will take rebirth in India only. So Tibetan high lama’s are going to search for  his reincarnation in India while China has been continuously warning that only he will decide who is going to be the next successor of Dalai Lama. It is an irony that a communist nation who do not believe in rebirth and is completely atheist from its core will do a search for reincarnation of Dalai Lama in future! So in next few years we will witness two Dalai Lama’s;  one the Dalai Lama of the Tibetan heart, and one that is officially appointed by China.

Astrological Yogas For Spirituality

September 1, 2018 By Sachin Malhotra

The classical astrological texts of Hindus have discussed very less on the aspect of judging the purpose of one’s life. Most of the classical astrological treaties, except the discourses of Rishi’s, were written by the astrologers in the courts of kings. There is no surprise that these texts have deal mostly with the materialistic aspect of human life and paying less attention to astrological yogas for spirituality . Only some hints about the spiritual evolution of a native have been given here and there in some verses in the form of very few astrological combinations. These astrological text doesn’t give any specific methodology following which an astrologer may predict whether a native  have the potentials to develop his consciousness in his lifetime or his soul may fall below at  level at which it is in his present birth.

{ Note: This article of mine was published in the June 2018 issue of Express Star Teller Magazine. The same has been reproduce here for the readers of my blog }

Take an example of great Varahamihir’s Bhriat Jataka which is an exhaustive astrological work written in the 6th century in Ujjain. The Varahamihir has deal with almost every aspect of predictive astrology but have  discuss the combinations of spirituality in only  4 stanza’s in a chapter ‘Pravajya Yoga Adhayaa’. This is the case with almost every classical text of Hindu astrology which gives more value to the worldly aspects of human life leaving or perhaps deliberately hiding the area of spiritual growth which is the most important part to judge in a horoscope. It could be for the reason that the combinations of spirituality in a horoscope would have been kept secret by the sages or may be it would have been taught to few deserving disciples only. Spiritual astrology has been the most neglected and secretive part of Hindu astrology which had remains only in the traditions not coming out in public domain. Before I go more into this subject let me give some of the classical combination of spirituality given by Sage Parashara and Acharya Varahamihira in their texts.

  1. Four or more planets in a house create a yoga for renunciation (Sanyasa ). These planets should not be combust by Sun or involve in a planetary war. In this combination if the planet is combust then such person is interested in spirituality but do not take renunciation. If any planet is defeated in a planetary war then the person came back after taking the renunciation. As per some classical text if the 10th lord from lagna is involve in this combination then the native become a famous monk or Sanyasi.
  2. If the Rashi lord of Moon (depositor of Moon ) is not receiving the aspect of any planet and gives its aspect to the Saturn only or receives the aspect from Saturn only then also the renunciation take place.
  3. If a weak Moon is in Dreshkkan of Saturn and receives the aspect of Saturn only and/ or it is in the Navamsha of Saturn or Mars receiving the aspect by Saturn only then also the renunciation take place.
  4. In the Cancer, Sagittarius or Pisces lagna if Saturn aspect the ascendant and  Jupiter is in the 9th house this also make a combination of renunciation. Similarly if Saturn aspect the lagna, Moon and Jupiter in case of Cancer, Sagittarius or Pisces lagna rising  then also the renunciation take place.
  5. If the Saturn is in the 9th house devoid of the aspect by any planet and there are some good Raja Yogas in the horoscope then the native even be a king can get initiated to be a monk or sanyasi.
  6. In the Stri-Jataka Adhayaa a Sanyasa yoga has also been given which is applicable for both women and men. As per this yoga if a malefic is in the 7th house and there is a planet in the 9th house then the ‘Sanayasa’ or renunciation take place as per the nature of that planet.

Apart from the above mention yogas a classical text ‘Jamini Sutram’ also gives some astrological combination based on the position of planets from Karakamsha telling the type of deity a native may worship. Those yogas may also be taken into account using them liberally to judge the spiritual inclination in a horoscope. The ‘Pancha-Mahapurusha Yoga’ and ‘Muni Yoga’ are also found in the horoscope of many spiritually inclined persons. The ‘Pancha-Mahapurusha Yoga’ is formed when any planet except luminaries (Sun and Moon)  is in Kendra houses ( 1, 4, 7 or 10) in its sign of exaltation or in its own sign. The Mars, Mercury, Jupiter , Venus and Saturn form this yoga. The ‘Muni yoga’ is created when the lagna lord is in conjunction with the lord of Navamsha lagan in the lagan itself.  This yoga is rarely found in  horoscope.

My astrology teacher Shri K.N. Rao has ‘Muni Yoga’ in his horoscope of Tula (Libra) lagan. He has Venus in the ascendant along with Mars which is the lord of his Navamsha lagna which is Aries. Thus in his Libra lagna and the Aries Navamsha chart the ‘Muni yoga’ is formed due to conjunction of Venus and Mars in the ascendant. He also has two Mahapurusha Yoga’s in his horoscope. Venus in the lagan in its own sign Libra and Jupiter in Cancer in its sign of exaltation at the 10th house.   Now I will discuss some of the astrological combination which I have observed on the horoscopes of persons engaged in religious or spiritual practices.

  • The connection of Dhrama trikona i.e. 1, 5 and 9 houses/lords with the Moksha trikona 4, 8 and 12 is a prominent combination which can take a native towards spiritual growth.
  • The Ketu placed in the 12th house from Moon can give good level of intuitive ability. If this Ketu receives the aspect of Jupiter then this yoga become more prominent and such a person can practice deep meditation.
  • Ketu in the 12th from Janma lagna and/or Karakamsha under the aspect of benefic planet also give spiritual inclination.
  • The close conjunction of Ketu and Jupiter in Dharma trikona or Moksha Trikona also gives interest in spirituality. The Jupiter and the trine houses must be strong in this yoga.
  • The conjunction of Sun and Jupiter gives one an inclination to serve at the places of worship or even construct a place of worship.
  • A pure Jupiter in Pisces or Aquarius Rashi or in the Navamsha of Pisces or Aquarius if aspect the 5th house, 9th house or ascendant such person is spiritually inclined.
  • In the maha dasha of 5th lord or 9th lord or planet associated with these houses lords especially if they are benefic planets makes one spiritually or religiously inclined during the operation of such dashas.
  • The maha dasha of Rahu or Ketu associated with 5th or 9th lord and receiving the aspect of Jupiter is also helpful in spiritual growth.
  • If the 5th lord is not associated with any planet and gives aspect to the 9th and/or 12th house only then during the dasha of such 5th lord a native may get inclined towards spirituality and follow a path of ‘Sadhana’ dedicatedly. If such 5th lord is crowded with many planets or receives the aspect of many planets then the person practices the spiritual exercises of different traditions.
  • A Kemadruma Moon is also helpful in spiritual growth as when Moon is not associated with any planet the mind of a person becomes introvert. But a Kemadruma Moon is only a supporting factor which should be backed with other combinations of spiritual growth.
  • A pure Venus in the Rashi and Navamsha of Leo or Virgo gives freedom from materialistic attraction. If such Venus is combust then it is good for spiritual life. Venus in Leo or Virgo associated with Jupiter is also very helpful in spiritual life as it relieve a person from lustful thoughts.
  • The dasha periods of Rahu-Venus or Venus-Rahu , Jupiter-Venus or Venus-Jupiter, Saturn-Venus or Venus-Saturn should be carefully observed in the horoscope of a spiritual persons as these dasha periods are well known to bring transformation in life.
  • The Bhava Chalit Kundali should be seen to judge the mental inclination of a native. The yogas in the Rashi chart tell about a person’s outer personality. The Navamsha and Bhava Kundali give details about the inner being of the native. How a person is from inside is to be judge using the Navamsha and Bhava Chalit chart.
  • The concentration of planets in Leo, Aquarius and Pisces rishi’s and/or Navamsha’s should be carefully marked. The Leo is the rashi of Bramacharya (celibacy ) , Aquarius signifies ‘Dharma and Charity’ and the Pisces is the Moksha karaka (salvation) rashi.
  • Notice the planets in ‘Sarpa Drekkan’ for spiritual inclination. The 2nd and 3rd Drekkana of Cancer, 1st and 2nd Drekkana of Scorpio and 3rd Drekkana of Pisces are Sarpa Drekkana.
  • The retrograde planets in the trine ( 1,5 and 9) houses gives the practices of Tantra.
  • The lagan lord in mutual aspect, conjunction or exchange with the Moon sign lord is a yoga making one highly focused towards a particular task or act. If this yoga is present in the chart of a spiritual person then he become highly attentive and sincere towards his Sadhana. Such person can also practice ‘Hatha Yoga’ because of high level of concentration develop in their personality.

Now I will discuss some cases of the persons whom I have personally known to be involve in spiritual practices.

Case 1. Male

astrological yogas for spiritual growth

astrological yogas for spiritual growth

astrological yogas for spiritual growth

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: 0 years 9 months 28 days

This Cancer lagna horoscope is of an OSHO’s Sanyasi who is practicing meditation since 1989. In his Rashi chart the conjunction of four planets ( Sun,Mercury,Venus and Jupiter) is a classical yoga for renunciation. In this yoga planets are not combust with Sun which is good. Moon is in the Dreshkkan of Saturn and receives the aspect of Saturn which is also a Sanyasa yoga. Venus in Leo Rashi and Virgo Navamsha is associated with Jupiter which makes a person’s mind free from lust and sexual thoughts to a large extent. The 5th and 10th lord Mars in the Sarpa Drekkana is also good for spiritual inclination.

The native  was born in the wealthy family of businessman in South Delhi. The concentration of four planets in the 2nd house of wealth and an exalted lagna lord in the 11th house of gains amply explain his birth in a rich family. He himself started doing business at a very young age of just 18 years. A turning point in his life came during Rahu-Venus period ( January 1988 to January 1991) when he read a book of OSHO  in 1990. For many days he was kept crying and become desperate to know the purpose of his life. He went to the Ashram of OSHO in Pune sometimes in the mid of 1991 which was about six months after the soul of Osho had left this world. The dasha of Rahu placed in the 9th house and later the maha dasha of Jupiter ( from June 1994 to June 2010) enhanced his spiritual journey. He lived in Pune Ashram of OSHO for many years and also managed his business in Delhi by his visits there.

Now notice here that in Bhava Chalit the 2nd lord Sun has moved into the ascendant joining the 10th and 5th lord yogakaraka Mars. The conjunction of Sun and Mars in the ascendant of Bhava Chalit didn’t give him mental inclination to leave the business though he had the ‘Sanyasa’ yoga in the birth chart. Later in 2007 during his Jupiter-Rahu dasha in Vimshottari he moved to USA. He is at present teaching meditation to people in USA through classes conducted at his sprawling home near New York. The 10th lord Mars in the ascendant also gave him earnings from real estate in the USA and also from India. The planets in the 2nd and 11th house from his ascendant show his ‘karmic account’ deeply connected  with wealth. The native has his views about living his life by responding to the present moment and trying to remain conscious with every action he performs.

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Ketu 3 years 10 months 23 days

The Aquarius lagna horoscope given here is of a retired class I officer who is into spiritual practices since his childhood. Born in a Brahmin family he was initiated into the knowledge of Geeta and Upanishada’s since the age of 6 years by his father who was in army then. The rising sign in the ascendant is Aquarius a rashi of Dharma fortified by strong Jupiter. The lagna lord Saturn is in Leo a sign of Bhramacharya. Notice here the depositor of Moon which is Jupiter  receiving the aspect of Saturn only which is a ‘Sanyasa’ yoga. Moon is in Kemadruma yoga and is in mutual aspect with 9th lord Venus which gave him mental inclination towards religious learning’s since childhood.

During the dasha of 9th lord Venus ( from June  1954 to June 1974) he was brilliant in his studies and remained religiously inclined. Venus here receives the aspect of Jupiter in Rashi chart and in Navamsha it is conjoined with Jupiter which gave him great knowledge of spiritual texts. In the maha dasha of Sun ( from June 1974 to June 1980) he got a government job in 1975 and later got married on 29th of January 1977 during Sun-Jupiter dasha.  Saturn is in the 7th house of Rashi chart which would have delayed his marriage but in Bhava Chalit it has moved into the 8th house and Mercury has come in the 7th house. A benefic coming in the 7th house in Bhava Chalit shows mental inclination towards leading a happy married life. Though the malefic planets in the 6th, 7th and 8th houses of Rashi chart gave him problems with his in-laws and also kept his wife ill.

The maha dasha of Moon ( June 1980 to June 1990) was the best period of his spiritual life. He met many Saints while travelling during his postings into different cities. Moon is in the sign of Jupiter in the Kemadruma yoga. Moon is in mutual aspect with the  9th lord Venus from the 5th house of ‘Mantra Siddhi’. The depositor of Moon is Jupiter which is in ‘Sanyasa’ yoga as it receives the aspect of Saturn only. In Navamsha the Moon is the 9th lord in mutual aspect with Saturn which has to be good for spiritual progress. In 1986 he took an oath of speaking truth only. Because of this he had many clashes with his corrupt co-workers in the office. The 6th lord Moon has to give him troubles with enemies and intrigues. In the dasha of Vargottama 10th lord Mars in the 8th house ( from June 1990 to June 1997) he become the class I officer. This period was also good for his ‘Sadhana’ as Mars in the 8th house is the house of ‘Samadhi’ in spiritual astrology. Later the dasha of Rahu ( from June 1997 to June 2015) gave him some health issues related with eyes as Rahu in the 2nd house shows. He is also a very good astrologer and now days spend time in his ‘Sadhana’ during his Jupiter maha dasha.

Now I will take some of the horoscopes of famous spiritual personalities briefly explaining the classical combinations which I had given in the beginning of the article.

Case 3. Horoscope  OSHO or Acharya Rajneesh

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Venus 6 years 6 months 1 days

In the Vrishabha lagna horoscope of OSHO or Acharya Rajneesh five planets are conjoined in the 8th house making a ‘Sanyasa’ yoga. The 8th house is the house of mystical subjects and from here all these planets aspects the 2nd house of speech. OSHO had given his discourses on almost all the famous religious philosophies, enlightened personalities and modern psychologist of the world. His discourses were compiled in the form of more than 650 books. OSHO also had a positive outlook towards the spiritual aspects of astrology. According to him astrology should be taken as a science to judge the possibilities or potentials for the growth of consciousness in a human being rather than making predictions about materialistic matters in the life. Every astrologer must read or listen to the OSHO’s discourse “ Astrology: The science of cosmic oneness” which is available on the internet.

Now coming back to OSHO’s horoscope the five planets conjoined in his 8th house includes the 10th lord Saturn in a good Raja Yoga which made him world famous. When in a Sanyasa yoga the 10th lord is included and a Raja Yoga is also there then the native become a famous Guru or religious teacher inspiring thousands of people towards the path of spiritual illumination. Among these planets none except Mars is combust which is also within a distance of about 13 degrees from the Sun. The Mars gets combust when it is within a longitude of 17 degrees from the Sun’s longitude. If we remove Mars from this yoga then also the four planets conjoined together, none of them being combust from Sun, makes a complete ‘Sanyasa Yoga’. In the maha dasha of Rahu ( June 1961 to June 1979) placed in the 11th house OSHO travelled across India as a public speaker on spirituality and initiated thousands of people into various methods of meditation.

His criticism of socialism, Mahatama Gandhi and orthodoxy in religions gave him a lot of opposition from various sections of the society. He was labeled as ‘Sex Guru’ by the media because of his open attitude towards human sexuality. Ironically among his thousands of discourses only very few like ‘From sex to super consciousness’  is on the subject of transforming sexual energy towards spirituality. Even though he was defamed as ‘sex Guru’ ignoring his contribution in divulging some rare meditation techniques.  See the cluster of planets in the 10th house from Rahu; its dasha has to put him in the limelight in the field of spirituality. Rahu receives the aspect of Jupiter in both Rashi and Navamsha charts. In the dasha of Rahu from June 1961 to June 1979 OSHO dare all the controversies and his movement was very successfully running. Rahu is also very strongly placed in the ascendant of Vimshamsha chart ( D-20) which is seen for spiritual growth.

But when the dasha of 8th lord Jupiter came in June 1979 OSHO start getting into troubles due to intrigues among his followers and his own ill-health. Jupiter is though exalted in the 3rd house but it is in ‘Sarpa Drekkan’ which gives bad health though consider good for spirituality. Jupiter is also in a bad exchange with 3rd lord Moon which is in the 8th house. The dasha of Jupiter from June 1979 to June 1995 has to be fatal for OSHO. In 1981 the increased tensions around the Poona Ashram forced OSHO to relocate himself in Oregon USA. But very soon OSHO’s commune ran into trouble with local residence, state government and authorities of USA. His followers were accused for bio-terror attack, assassination plots of a judge and breaking immigration rules. OSHO was arrested in 1985 and deported back. It happened during Jupiter-Mercury dasha in Vimshottari. OSHO later said that he was perhaps given a slow poison during the custody which caused him various health issues troubling him until he left his mortal coil. Notice here the cluster of 5 planets in the 6th house from the dasha lord Jupiter which is the lord of 8th house under the 8th aspect of 7th lord Mars a primary ‘Maraka’ for Vrishabha lagna.  Mercury is the lord of 2nd house a ‘Maraka’ explains it astrologically. OSHO was denied entry by 21 countries and later he came back to Pune where he stayed until his last breath on 19 January 1990. OSHO left this world at the age of 58 during his Jupiter-Moon dasha in Vimshottari. Jupiter and Moon are in a bad exchange of 3rd and 8th houses.

Case 4: Horoscope of  Rama krishna Paramhamsa

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Jupiter 13 years 1 months 26 days

The Kumbha (Aquarius) lagna horoscope of Rama Krishna Paramhamsa is a classic example of ‘Sanyasa’ yoga by Moon. In the Navamsha Moon is in the sign of Mars receiving the aspect of Saturn which is a yoga for renunciation. The Rashi chart of Rama Krishna is extraordinary with the presence of 3 exalted planets and untainted Jupiter and Venus. The strong Jupiter in the 5th house gave him  disciples like Swami Vivekananda and Swami  Brahmananda who made Ramkrishna Mission grew worldwide. Notice here the pure  Venus in Pisces rashi and Virgo Navamsha; Rama Krishna Paramhamsha worshipped his wife Sarada Devi has ‘holy mother’ performing ‘Shodasi Puja’ where she was made to sit at the seat of ‘goddess Kali’.

The position of 9th lord Venus in the horoscope of Rama Krishna Paramhamsa is very rare. In Vimshamsha (D-20) the Venus becomes the 5th lord (Sadhana) in the 9th house along with 2nd (Samskar) lord Moon. The Rama Krishna Paramhamsa, born as Gadhadhar, was initiated into the knowledge of scriptures through spiritual discourses, plays, songs and from the family members  during the dasha of Jupiter till he turned 13 years of age ( in 1849). Later during the 19 years long dasha of Saturn, which is exalted in the 9th house of Dharma, he performed  many “Sadhana’s” of different orientations. The retrograde planets in the trine also have him ‘tantra Sadhana’. Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn are retrograde in trine houses.

It has been observed that retrograde planets in the trine gives spiritual practices of  ‘tantra’. Also notice the Navamsha exchange between Moon and Mars which is a Parivartan yoga of 5th and 8th houses lords in Navamsha showing the practice of occult sciences. Ramkrishna performed  Gaudiya Vaishnavism Bhakti, Vamachara (left hand path or Tantra) , Kundalini Yoga, Advait Vedanta etc during the dasha of Saturn from 1849 to 1868. He also practiced some sufi Sadhana and Christian Sadhana for a brief period during the early part of Mercury dasha. Rama Krishna’s spiritual life was exceptional in the sense that he performed ‘Sadhana’s’ from different school of thoughts with unflinching devotion. In the dasha of 5th lord Mercury from 1868 to 1885 he got some great disciples. In the dasha of Ketu-Venus he took ‘Samadhi’ on 16 August 1886. The depositor of Ketu is Mars which is in the 12th house. The anter dasha lord Venus is 9th lord in the 2nd house a ‘Maraka Bhava’.

astrological yogas for spiritual growth

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: Mars 4 years 6 months 28 days

The horoscope of Bhakti Vedanta Swami Prabhupad, founder of ISKON, has an excellent combination of Jupiter and Sun which is a yoga for ‘temple building’ or forming a religious institute. Ketu with Jupiter in the ‘Moksha trine’ is a yoga for spirituality. The exalted lagna lord Saturn in the 10th house is a ‘Maha Purush’ yoga. The connection of lagna and 10th house is also present in the Dashamsha chart where the 10th lord Moon is in the ascendant. If in a horoscope of spiritual personality such connection of lagna and 10th houses/lords is present in both Rashi and Dashamsha then he himself form an institution. During the dasha of Mercury ( from 1954to 1971) exalted in the 9th house along with 5th lord Venus (devotional Bhakti) he spread his message of ‘Radha Krishna Bhakti’ worldwide. He made translated ‘Gita’ and ‘Srimad Bhagwat’ into English and formed ISKON ( International Society for Krishna Consciousness). An exalted Moon in the 5th house and Venus-Mercury conjunction in the 9th shows his love for ‘Vaishnav Bhakti’. In the Dashamsha Mercury is the lord of 9th and 12th houses conjoined with Jupiter and Ketu showing his sublime spiritual message being spread worldwide through devotional means. Later he came back to Vrindavan and took Samadhi during his Ketu-Mercury dasha in Vimshottari on 14th November 1977.

Sri Aurobindo: A great philosopher and yogi

December 25, 2017 By Sachin Malhotra

Sri Aurobindo was a great scholar, freedom fighter and a philosopher of the 20th century. He had tremendous insight into the Hindu scriptures and was extremely talented author. He wrote scores of books and commentaries  on Indian philosophy, Yoga, Vedas,  Upanishadas, Bhagavad Gita and poetry. His major literary work include ‘The life divine’ , ‘Integral  Yoga ‘,  and a poetry work ‘Savitri: A legend and a symbol’. In the Karka (Cancer) lagna horoscope of Sri Aurobindo the conjunction of 5th lord Mars and the 9th lord Jupiter in the ascendant is a great combination of authorship and spiritual  practises. In Jaimini system the conjunction of Amatayakaraka Saturn and the Putrakaraka Moon in the 2nd house from Karakamsha, which is Scorpio in the horoscope of Aurobindo, is the classical yoga for authorship. The Karakamsha has Ketu placed in it under the aspect of Jupiter and Mars which gave him great logical ability in his interpretation of ancient scriptures and in literary work. The conjunction of Mars and Jupiter as per Sage Jaimini is a yoga for doing great work in ‘Mimamsa’ i.e. critical investigation of philosophical theories.

Horoscope of Sri Aurobindo

Sri Aurobindo astrology

Sri Aurobindo Kundali

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari: 4 years 1 month and 8 days

Aurobindo Ghosh was born in an affluent Bengali Kayastha family of Calcutta on 15th of August 1872. Aurobindo had two elder brother and a young sister. His father Krishna Dhun Ghose was a surgeon who had done his medical studies from Britain. His mother Swarnalata Devi  had develop some mental illness soon after the birth of her first child. Aurobindo’s father use to believe that British culture is superior than the Indian culture thus he brought-up his children teaching them to speak in English language. The exalted 9th lord Jupiter in the ascendant and the strong 2nd house in the horoscope of Aurobindo astrologically explain his aristocratic upbringing. He and his two elder brothers were send to the English speaking Loreto house boarding school in Darjeeling.

Study in England ( 1879 to 1893) and death of father

During the major part of the dasha of Venus from September 1876 to September 1896 , Aurobindo studied the subjects like history, English literature, French, Lain, geography and arithmetic. Ketu in the 5th house under the aspect of Jupiter gives the studies of humanities and languages. In Navamsha the 5th lord Venus is with Rahu explaining the knowledge of foreign languages. His father wanted to keep him away from Indian traditions. The entire family was moved to London in 1879 when Aurobindo was just 7 years of age. He was under the dasha of Venus-Venus in Vimshottari.

Venus is conjoined with the 12th lord Mercury in Rashi chart and in Navamsha it is with Rahu giving aspect to the 12th house of foreign land. His father wanted his sons to join the Indian Civil Services (ICS) the elite origination of bureaucrats serving under then British rule in India.  But destiny had some other plans for him. Aurobindo easily cleared the written examination for the ICS with 11th ranking among the 250 competitors. He could have joined the civil services and become the class I officer. But he deliberately came late in the horse racing practical examination to get himself disqualified for the services. He had no interest in working for the British government in India. It happen in the  Venus-Mercury dasha in Vimshottari during the second half of 1892. In the sub period of 12th lord Mercury he moved back to India in February 1893.

In India his father Krishna Dhun Ghose was waiting to receive his son. But he was misinformed in Bombay that the ship on which Aurobindo had been travelling had sunk off the coast of Portugal. His father died upon hearing this heartbreaking news which though later came out to be false. This was the period of Venus-Mercury in the horoscope of Aurobindo. Mercury is the lord of 7th house from the 9th house of father. Mercury is also the 2nd lord from Sun the Karaka for father. In Dwadamsha, which is not given here, the Pisces sign is rising and Mercury thus become the ‘Maraka’ there also. In the Rashi chart the 9th lord Jupiter is exalted but it is debliteated in Navamsha. The 9th lord in Navamsha is Mercury which is with Saturn and receives the malefic aspect of Mars from the 8th house showing early death of father during its sub-period.

Jobs in Baroda and Calcutta ( 1892 to 1910)

Aurobindo went to Baroda state to join the office of then Maharaja Gaekwad III where he worked until 1897. During his stay in Baroda he also started working as a part time French teacher in the Baroda collage. The Venus dasha has to give him a prestigious job as it is in a very strong Dhana yoga as the 11th lord conjoined with the 2nd lord Sun in the 2nd house itself. Venus is the lord of Dashamsha lagna also. He was later promoted to the post of vice principal in Baroda college.

During the dasha of Sun from September 1896 to 1902 he started taking part in the freedom struggle movement of India by linking up resistance groups in Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. He did this thing from behind the scene only as he was still in the service of Baroda state.

Delay Marriage of Aurobindo and death of his wife

In Sun-Mercury  dasha he got married at the age of 28 when he was on a visit to Calcutta in 1901. Sun as the lord of 2nd house in Rashi chart explain his marital alliance. The conjunction of lagna lord Moon and 7th lord Saturn, which is retrograde, explain his delay marriage. In Navamsha the 7th sign of the Rashi chart is rising and the lord of 1/7 houses are under affliction which is a classical yoga  of late marriage. This was an unconventional marriage in the sense that he was 28 whereas his wife was only 14 years of age. Later his wife died in December 1918 due to influenza when Aurobindo was going through Mars-Sun dasha in Vimshottari. Mars afflicting the 7th house in Rashi chart and in Navamsha it is in the 8th house in mutual aspect with the lord of lagna Saturn which is a bad yoga for marriage.

Aurobindo’s evolution from politics to spirituality

During the maha dasha of lagna lord Moon from September 1902 to September 1912 Aurobindo was deeply involve in the freedom struggle of India. But in the later part of Moon maha dasha his life was radically change due to some spiritual experiences when he was in jail. Moon here is in the exchange of house with the 6th lord Jupiter. The exchange between the lagna and 6th house gave him courage to join revolutionary movement which started after the partition of Bengal in July 1905. During the Moon-Mercury dasha in the second half of 1908 Aurobindo was in a jail in the Calcutta city in connection with Alipore Bomb Case. During the one year stay in Jail he started moving towards spiritual practises. Mercury as the 12th lord shows imprisonment. But since Mercury is not afflicted here so he acquitted from the case on the 9th of May 1909  due to lack of evidences. Later he moved to Pondicherry in 1910 during the Moon-Ketu period in Vimshottari. The Ketu in the 12th house of Moon under the benefic aspect of Jupiter is a well known combination of spiritual practises.

In Navamsha the Ketu is in the 12th house receiving the aspect of 5th lord Venus gave him a divine signal during its sub period to bring a transformation in his life. The Moon-Ketu period in Vimshottari was the turning point in the life of Aurobindo when he moved to Pondicherry to dedicate his life towards spiritual and philosophical pursuits. In transit the Saturn was in Pisces at his 9th house and Jupiter was in Virgo giving aspect to it. The dasha of Moon-Ketu and the double transit of Saturn-Jupiter over the 9th house of Aurobindo brought him towards the path of religion in 1910.

His writings and establishing Aurobindo Ashram

In the dasha of 5th lord Mars from September 1912 to September 1919 he devoted much of his time towards practicing yoga and in his writings. Mars here is the lord of 5th house which as per Sage Parashara is the house signifying ‘Yantra, Tantra, Mantra  and Vidya’. The maha dasha of 5th lord is the most important time in the life of a spiritual person for doing an intense ‘Sadhana’. Ketu in the 5th house under the aspect of 9th lord Jupiter gave him great command over many languages and exotic writing ability.  Mars  is also the lord of 10th house  and is conjoined with the 9th lord Jupiter which gave him an excellent ability to write on mystical subjects. He started a magazine named ‘Arya’ in 1914.

Later during the dasha of Rahu from 1919 to 1937 he started publishing his works in the series of books. In the dasha of Rahu placed in the 11th house the number of his followers also started to grew and this led to the formation of Sri Aurobindo Ashram in 1926 at Pondicherry. In was the dasha of Rahu-Saturn in Vimshottari which are at 6/8 position in both Rashi and Navamsha. Saturn as the 5th lord in Dashamsha in the 10th house shows getting dignified disciples. During this period he went into seclusion and gave the responsibility of managing the Ashram to Mira Richard, a French devotee,  whom he considered as his spiritual equal.

In the dasha of Jupiter started in September 1937 Sri Aurobindo devoted much of his time in literary work, answering to the letters of his followers around the world and in doing yogic practices.  Jupiter as the 9th lord in the close degree of ascendant shows the growth of his soul during its dasha. But Jupiter is also debliteated in the Navamsha and is in bad exchange with Moon. In the horoscope of Sri Aurobindo the classical ‘Sanyasa yoga’ mention by Sage Parashara and Acharya Varahamihira is not present. OSHO in his discourse the ‘the point of no return‘ has mention that Sri Aurobindo didn’t experience the enlightenment though he was a great philosopher and scholar.

On 5 December 1950 , Sri Aurobindo left this world at the age of 78 . National and international news papers commemorated on his death. It was the period of Jupiter-Mars in Vimshottari when he left this mortal world. Mars is giving aspect to the 8th house of death in Rashi chart and in Navamsha it is in the 8th house it self.

Mira Richard know as the ‘Mother’ continued the spiritual work of Sri Aurobindo , managed the Ashram and guided  their  disciples.

Mirra Richard horoscope

Mirra Richard horoscope

Balance of Dasha in Vimshottari : Mars 0 year 6 months and 7 days

In the birth chart of Mira Richards or the Mother the lagan lord Venus is in the 10th house along with the 10th lord Saturn which is a well known astrological yoga for the establishment of an institution. The Venus here is though combust by Sun but since the Sun is the lord of 4th house so it creates a good yoga here. The conjunction of lagan, 4th lord, 9th and 10th lord at the 10th house astrologically explain why Mira Richard was destined to manage a big religious institution. A deep combust Venus is a blessing for spirituality. The materialistic significations  of Venus are burned under the ‘Sattvik’ rays of Sun which helps a person to overcome sex torments.  Venus here is also the Rashi lord of Moon which is in Kemadruma yoga. A Kemadruma Moon square by Jupiter and Mercury gave her  inner peace and tranquillity . She left her married life and dedicated herself towards the spiritual mission of Sri Aurobindo. The condition of Moon in the horoscope of ‘The Mother’ is more comfortable  than that of Sri Aurobindo.

She authored many books on religion and spirituality which is explainable by the position of strong 5th lord Mercury in the 9th house along with Jupiter. Her chart has better yogas for living an exotic  spiritual life than that of Sri Aurobindo as her lagna lord is in good condition where as in the horoscope of Sri Aurobindo the lagna lord is Moon which is in a  bad exchange.

The dasha order in the horoscope of Mira Richards is excellent as she got the periods of 9th lord Saturn ( from 1912 to 1931), 5th lord Mercury ( from 1931 to 1948) and then of Ketu ( from 1948 to 1955) in succession. In this aspect her chart is better than that of Sri  Aurobindo. In the dasha of Saturn she met Aurobindo on 29th of March 1914 at Pondicherry. Later she left the place and went to Japan and came back only in 1920 (Saturn-Venus). On 24 November 1926 she took the activities of the ‘Ashram’ , with handful of disciples, in her hand. Now notice the 10th lord Saturn here giving aspect to the 12th house and its lord Mars,  which shows why she was destined to work in a foreign land in founding an institution. In Navamsha the Saturn is the lord of 12th house placed in the 4th house under the aspect of lagna and 10th lord Jupiter.

It was because of her magnificent efforts in spiritual guiding of the community  that the Ashram become popular worldwide. She founded the city of Aurovill near Pondicherry as a model universal township for development of human consciousness.  At present this beautiful place is managed by a foundation setup by the Indian government. She left this mortal world on 17 November 1973 when she was under Venus-Mercury dasha in Vimshottari. Mercury here as the 2nd lord from the ascendant is a ‘Maraka’ planet.
