The apex court abolished the custom of instant Triple Talaq prevalent in Indian Muslim society. Later on the 24th of August the 9 judges bench of Supreme court gave a set back to the Indian government by giving a judgement making the ‘right to privacy’ a fundamental right of the citizen of India. On the very next day a CBI court send Gurmeet Ram Rahim, a controversial religious leader, to custody after finding him guilty in a rape case. It was a very bold decision of the CBI court considering the fact that Gurmeet Ram Rahim had the following of millions of people across the country and having a wealth of thousands of millions at his hundreds of  Ashrams ( center of worship). Almost all the political parties of Haryana, where the Gurmeet Ram Rahim has his headquarter,  and Punjab were in his favor. Gurmeet Ram Rahim had issued his support to the Congress, BJP  and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in various assembly elections since last 15 years. He was particularly the darling of BJP leaders whom he supported in the general and Haryana assembly elections in 2014. It was no surprise that Khattar Government in Haryana did his level best to patronize him until he was found guilty on the 24th of August. Later on the 28th of August the CBI court send Gurmeet Ram Rahim to jail for 20 years.

The supporters of Gurmeet Ram Rahim was allowed to ransacked the city of Panchkula on the afternoon of 24th of August. As many as 38 people were died and hundreds were injured in massive violence. As per the statement of Punjab Haryana High Court ‘ it was the political surrender of government to lure the vote bank’. The High Court went the extent of taking on the Prime Minister Modi by saying that “PM is of the nation,  not of the BJP”.
