Planets and Trends for the Winter Season 2025-26 (December to March)

December 2, 2025 By Sachin Malhotra

In the astro-meteorology the solar ingress and lunar charts are studied for the forecasting of seasonal trends. The position of the Sun and the Moon with respect to other planets is very important for giving an indications for meteorological disturbances. Apart from the rainfall and temperature we can also forecast the yield of crops cultivated during the monsoon (rainy) and also in the winter season. Astrological indications for the potential yield of Rabi crops sown in the winter season are given in the Sasya Jataka chapter of the fifth-century text, the Brihat Samhita. According to the Brihat Samhita, for the production of winter crops, especially wheat, the position of the benefic (Jupiter, Venus, unafflicted Mercury and the Full Moon) and malefic  planets (Saturn, Mars and Rahu) relative to the Sun is observed at the time of the Sun’s entry into Scorpio.

This year, at the time of the Sun’s entry into Scorpio, the auspicious planet Jupiter was in Cancer and was giving its 5th aspect to the Su, which is a particularly favorable position for sowing wheat and gram crops. Venus, being in Libra and directly behind the Sun, indicates a good barley yield. The conjunction of Mars and Mercury in Scorpio with the Sun during their transit is good for the production of lentils and peas, respectively. However, Rahu and Ketu being in the Kendra houses (square) of the Sun and Saturn in the triangle may cause abnormal rainfall and severe cold, which may destroy oilseed crops like mustard in some areas.

The most important point in the horoscope of Solar Ingress of Scorpio (chart 1) is the position of the Mars, Mercury and the Sun in watery sign Scorpio. This is an indication of a rainy winter season and good snowfall in the hilly areas of Himalayan region during the winter season.

In the full Moon horoscope (chart 2) of the 5th of December 2025 we can see the majority of planets in watery sign in the trine of each other which is a good promise of heavy snowfall in the hilly areas of Himalayas in the month of December that can bring a chilly winter season along with some light rains in the Northern and central parts of the country. The natural benefic planet Mercury and Jupiter are in Kendra from the ascendant which is good for timely onset of winter seasons in most parts of the country.

Saturn in Pisces and North East Monsoon trends for India in 2025

October 24, 2025 By Sachin Malhotra

After the late withdrawal of the South West monsoon from the North and Central India, the North East monsoon activity has started on time this year in Southern Peninsular. The North East monsoon rainfall activity has started in Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Southern Parts of Karnataka and Kerala since 16th of October. The effects of solar maxima i.e. higher sun spots are likely to give above normal rainfall in the North East monsoon just like we had a higher than the average rainfall this year in the South-West monsoon season. The North East monsoon rainfall bring about 50% to 60% of the  total  rainfall for Tamil Nadu state which is very important for her agriculture activity. This year the transiting Saturn from Pisces, a watery sign, aspect the Virgo which is the zodiac sign signifying the Southern Peninsular of India can bring higher than the normal rainfall and flood in Tamil Nadu particularly in Chennai city.

On the 27th of October Mars will enter into Scorpio which as per astro-meteorology is a watery sign. This will bring a good spell of rainfall in Southern parts of India in next few days.

The city of Chennai in particularly will gets lots of rainfall around 5th of November this year. The Moon shall be in Aries then giving aspect to Venus and the Sun in Libra. Jupiter will be in Kendra from the Moon which is an excellent yoga for rainfall.

Chart 1. Horoscope of Sun’s entry into Scorpio

              (Vrischik Samkranti)

Sun's Entry into Scorpio horoscope 2025

The Sun will enter into watery sign Scorpio on the 16th of November 2025 at 13:37:50 hours at Delhi. The close degree 5th aspect of Jupiter on the Sun is a good yoga for the rainfall. Later on the 20th of November on the day of Amavasya also A retrograde Mercury ahead of the Sun along with Mars in watery sign Scorpio getting the aspect of retrograde Jupiter , will bring major meteorological disturbance in Bay of Bengal also giving rainfall in many Eastern parts of the country also. A cyclone with heavy rainfall can’t be ruled out in the mid of November this year.

Higher than Normal Rainfall In November Month

The transit of Saturn from Pisces, Jupiter in Cancer and Mars from Scorpio is a major yoga for higher than the normal rainfall activity in the month of November during the North East monsoon season.  This will also bring down temperature in the North and Central Parts of India, thus we can expect an early onset of the winter season this year from the middle of November month.

Chart 2. Horoscope of Full Moon

5 December 2025, 04:43:55 hours at Delhi

Full Moon 5 December 2025

The transiting Jupiter will come back into Gemini sign on the 5th of December in its retrograde motion. It will come into mutual aspect with Mars which will enter into Sagittarius on the 7th of December. As per Bhavishya Phala Bhaskar rainfall activity can happen when major planets change rashi. Since in the Full Moon horoscope of the 5th of December 2025 we have the close degree aspect of Jupiter on Saturn which is in the sign of Jupiter in Pisces a watery sign, so we can expect very heavy rainfall activity in the fortnight starting from 5th of December.  This will bring rainfall in the interior parts of Tamil Nadu state and also in South Interior Karnataka region.

Watery Planets and Watery Sign’s in Astro-Meteorology

As per the rules of astro-meteorology the Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and the Moon are watery planets which gives rainfall. Mars and Saturn are dry in natura along with Ketu. The Moon’s north-node Rahu is a windy planet. The transit of these planets is to be studied in the lunar charts and solar ingress horoscope with respect to the Sun for understanding the rainfall situation. The Cancer, Capricorn, Pisces and Scorpio are watery sign. Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Sagittarius and Aries are dry signs. Taurus, Libra and Aquarius have some water content.

Chart 3. Horoscope of Sun Enters Sagittarius

Horoscope of Sun's entry into Sagittarius sign 2025

At the time of Sun’s entry into Sagittarius Jupiter will again aspect the Sun. During the entire period of North East Monsoon from mid of October to end of December the aspect of Jupiter will be on the Sun. As per the classical texts of astro-meteorology this is a major yoga for higher than the normal rainfall. Also notice the conjunction of the watery planets Mercury and Venus in the water element sign Scorpio is present at the time of the Sun’s entry into Sagittarius.

So, there will be some rainfall on the 16th of December and also on the day of Amavasya on the 19th of December. But later when the transiting Mercury will move into Sagittarius on the 29th of December joining Mars there the rainfall will start reducing. The North-East monsoon rainfall will end in the first week of January this year.

Overall the rainfall activity will be higher than the normal in the North-East monsoon season and the month of November and first week of December can bring a flood like situation in many parts of Tamil Nadu particularly in Chennai city. The North East monsoon will withdraw in first week of January 2025 when majority of planets will start influencing the sign Sagittarius which is a fiery element Rashi.

Solar Ingress chart of Libra (Tula Samkranti) 2025 – What it foretells ?

October 18, 2025 By Sachin Malhotra

In mundane astrology, the Solar ingress chart (Surya Samkranti Kundali)  cast at the time  when the Sun enters movable signs like Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn holds greater significance than other Solar Ingress charts. However, predictions are made in mundane  astrology by combining the Solar Ingress horoscopes  with the foundation  horoscope of the nation for which the prediction is to be made. This year, the Sun will enter Libra on October 17th at 1:37 pm Indian time. At the time of the Sun’s entry, Capricorn ascendant will be rising, which, being the ninth house of the Taurus ascendant chart of the  independent India’s foundation horoscope  (August 15, 1947, midnight, Delhi), is an astrological indication of some major decisions from the Supreme Court and other high courts in the next 30 days.

Since the tenth lord (royal power) Venus is debilitated in the ninth house of the judiciary in the solar ingress horoscope and is forming a significant Samasaptak Yoga with the ascendant lord Saturn, a malefic planet, the court’s decisions are likely to shock the governments. These could lead to major social and political changes in the country. The Madhya Pradesh government’s petition in the Supreme Court to increase reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) could yield disappointing results.

Chart 1. Solar Ingress of Libra
               17 October 2025, 13:46 hours at Delhi
Navamsha Tula Samkranti 2025

The Modi government may take major steps towards economic reforms.

In the solar ingress  horoscope, the aspect between Saturn, the lord of the second house of wealth (Dhansthan), and the tenth lord (political power) and the fifth lord (policy decisions) Venus  is an astrological indication of the central government taking some major decisions on the economic front in the next 30 days. The conjunction of the eighth lord (obstacle) the  Sun with the ninth lord Mercury and the eleventh lord Mars in the tenth house is an astrological indication of the government accelerating the process of disinvestment and privatization of government companies. However, the conjunction of the Moon, the seventh house of the opposition and the planet of public sentiment, with the malefic planet Ketu in the eighth house also indicates public opposition to the central government’s decisions in many states. The influence of malefic planets on the second and fifth houses in the solar ingress  horoscope indicates some volatility in the stock market. The rise in gold prices may slow down for a few days after Jupiter, the planet which signify the  gold, enters its exalted sign Cancer on October 18th.
The United States (foundation horoscope July 4, 1776, 10:20 am, Philadelphia) , currently undergoing the difficult Vimshottari Dasha period of Rahu-Saturn-Mars  at the time of the solar ingress period  , may cause some turmoil in global markets by changing its interest rates.

Major weather changes will occur in the last week of October and early November

On October 24th, Mercury will transit into Scorpio, a watery sign. Later, on the 27th, Mars will enter Scorpio. This conjunction of Mars and Mercury in Scorpio will be influenced by the fifth aspect of Jupiter, transiting in the watery sign Cancer. This shift in the transit of major planets will cause snowfall in the higher reaches of the Himalayas in late October and the first week of November. Temperatures in the plains of North India will be slightly below normal in November, and air pollution will be lower than what it was in the  previous years. The Northeast monsoon rains will be on time in Southern peninsular of India,  and the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh will receive good rainfall in the first week of November, which will benefit the farmers in that region.

Atichari (fast moving) Jupiter in Gemini sign and forecasting trends for South-West Monsoon in India 2025

May 15, 2025 By Sachin Malhotra

As per the classical texts of mundane astrology benefic planets becoming Atichari or fast moving and the malefic planets moving into retrograde motion at the same time can bring obstructions in the rainfall. This year Jupiter will be in Atichari motion or fast moving in Gemini sign. And Saturn would be in retrograde in Pisces sign during a major period of the South-West monsoon season from June to September month. This will adversely affect the rainfall in India as it is highly likely that in the first few days there will be good rainfall due to Mars transit in watery sign Cancer till 7th of June and then slowly the rainfall will start becoming abnormal particularly in the  South Indian states, Gujarat and also in parts of Maharashtra.

In my article ‘Forecasting Trends for the Summer Season in India 2025’ published at page number 43 of Express Star Teller magazine i had mentioned that in North India this year the number of heat wave days will be less during the month of May. The second half of the month of May is likely to bring some light rainfall and there will be timely onset of the South-West monsoon in South India due to good planetary position in the Vrishabha Samkranti i.e. Solar Ingress in Taurus horoscope this year.

Chart 1. Solar Ingress of Taurus

15 May 2025, 00:11:53 at Delhi

Forecasting trends of the South West Monsoon 2025 for India

Jupiter will enter into Gemini sign on the 14th of May just a few hours before when the Sun will enter into this sign on the midnight of 14/15 at 00:11:53 as per the Indian Standard Time. Jupiter will be in the next sign from the Sun which will bring it into accelerated or Atichari motion. This Atichari Jupiter will bring many natural calamities this year particularly during the summer season when  Saturn and Rahu will be in Pisces sign in trine from Mars in Cancer sign.

At the time of Solar Ingress into Taurus (chart 1) the Moon will be in a watery sign Scorpio which will bring heavy pre-monsoon rains in the state of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Mars in cancer will bring some light showers in the central parts of India around the city of Nagpur, Raipur, Nasik, Bhopal etc. Pre-monsoon rains in general will be good in the second half of May in the central parts of India Mars in Cancer will be in trine from Saturn-Rahu in Pisces and the Moon in Scorpio in the solar ingress of Taurus chart.

Summer crops will be favorable for farmers

As per the Sasya Jataka Adhyay of Brihat Samhita if at the time of the Sun’s entry into Taurus there are natural benefic planets in the 2nd and 12th house from the Sun then farmers get good price for the summer crops. The summer crops in India are also known as Kharif crops which are rice, sorghum (jowar), pear millet (bajra), maize, oil seeds and pulses etc. Due to position of Jupiter in the 2nd house from the Sun and Mercury in the 12th the ‘Shubha Kartari’ yoga to the Sun will bring good yields in the summer crops during the year 2025. Farmers will get more productions of millets as Saturn is in Pisces the sign of expansion. Saturn and Rahu are karaka for millets as per Brihat Samhita. The timely pre-monsoon rains will be very helpful for rice and pulses farmers in South India. The productions of coffee and spices will also be good as Venus is exalted in Pisces at the time of Sun’s entry into Taurus sign. This wonderful combination of planets in Vrishabha Samkranti chart will be beneficial for the farmers of South India though it also shows a danger of major cyclone also.

Timely onset of South-West Monsoon foreseen

The normal date for the onset of the South-West monsoon in India is 1st of June. This year the major planet Saturn will be in watery sign Pisces and Mars will also be in watery sign Cancer which are favorable for an early onset of the South-West monsoon in India. On the day of the New Moon on 28th of May the conjunction of the Moon, the Sun and Mercury in Taurus sign will bring very good pre-monsoon rainfall in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and some coastal areas of south Indian states.

Record breaking heat-wave in North India after 6th of June

In the classical texts of astro-meteorology Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo and Sagittarius are dry signs. While Cancer, Capricorn and Pisces are 100% watery signs. Scorpio, Libra and Aquarius also have water content. Among the planets Mars, Saturn, the Sun and Ketu are dry planets. Rahu is windy planet. Jupiter, the Moon, Venus and Mercury are watery planets.

Chart 2. Full Moon horoscope

               11 June 2025, 13:13 at Delhi

Forecasting trends for the summer season 2025

When Mars will enter into dry sign Leo it will bring record breaking heat waves in most of the planes in North India especially Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana. Mars in Leo will also bring dryness in Gujarat and parts of central India. There will be some delay in South West monsoon in Raipur, Nagpur and some cities of central India. But the placement of Jupiter and Mercury in Gemini Rashi in the full Moon chart of 11th of June is a good indication for timely rainfall in the state of West Bengal signify by Gemini sign. The state of Bihar and Jharkhand will also get timely onset of South-West monsoon this year.

Ardra Pravesh Chart shows erratic rainfall

The horoscope of Sun’s entry into Ardra Nakshara  is studied to see the general trends for the South-West monsoon in the entire country. The position of planets in the Rashi and Navamsha is to be taken into consideration as per the rules of astro-meteorology in the Ardra Pravesh chart.

Chart 3. Horoscope of Sun’s entry into Ardra Nakshatra

22 June 2025, 06:19 a.m. at Delhi

Ardra Pravesh horoscope 2025

Forecasting trends for the South-West monsoon 2025 for India    On the Sunday ruled by the Sun, Krishna Paksha Dwadashi Tithi (12th day of darker half), Bharani Nakshatra, Sukarma Yoga and Kaulava Karna time the Sun will enter into the Ardra Nakshatra this year on the 22nd of June.

In the Ardra Pravesh chart (chart 3) the Gemini lagna is rising which is a dry sign. The Moon is in Aries which is another dry sign. But since we have watery planets Jupiter and Mercury in the lagna so it is good for the rainfall. We have Venus another watery planet with the Moon so it is also good. In Navamsha the watery planet Pisces is rising and Saturn and the Moon aspect the lagna. These are the yoga’s for some erratic rainfall only.

Destruction due to cloud burst in hilly areas

The aspect of transiting Mars on Saturn during the months of June-July may also give destructions due to erratic rainfall in the hilly areas of the country. The state of Andhra Pradesh signified by Pisces sign will get affected by a cyclone in the months of June-July or some major wind storm. Mars from Leo will aspect Saturn in Pisces sign indicate it.

Western India will get less than normal rainfall

The transit Mars will remain in Leo sign from 6th of June to 28th of July which is not good for rainfall in Saurashtra and Marathawada region. So, Gujarat and parts of Maharashtra may get less than normal rainfall in the month of June-July this year.

South India will get erratic rainfall in August-September

During 28th of July to 13th of September Mars will be in Virgo sign. Mars will be in opposition from Saturn which will be in Pisces sign then. This period will bring erratic rainfall in many parts of the country mostly in South India signified by Virgo sign. As per the Koorma Chakra Hasta and Chitra Nakshatra are in South India thus Virgo signify the South India.

Chart 4. Solar Ingress in Cancer

16 July 2025, 17:32 at Delhi

Forecasting trends for the South West Monsoon 2025 for India

At the time of Sun’s entry into Cancer on 16th of July there will be some good rainfall in North Indian states like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. But since Mars and Ketu will be ahead of the Sun-Mercury so rainfall will be less than norma during 16th of July to 15th of August this year. The higher than the normal temperature during June-July in most of the North Indian region will give troubles to the general public this year.

the position of Jupiter in the 12th from the Sun in Atichari motion and the retrograde motion of Saturn will bring erratic rainfall at many places in the country.

क्रूरा वक्रा यदा काले सोम्या: शीघ्रास्तु चागता: ll

अनावृष्टि च दुर्भिक्षं नृपराष्ट्रभयन्करा :  ll ४ ll

{Bhavishya Phala Bhaskara, Graha Yoga Prakranam, Page 28, Stanza number 4}

Translation: If malefic planets (Saturn and Mars) are in retrograde motion and benefic (Jupiter, Venus and Mercury) are in fast moving motion then it brings loss of rainfall, famine and fear for the kings and his subjects.

अतिचारगते जीवे शनो वक्रत्वमागते ll

 न तत्पश्याम तोयं वै यद्वरां धारयिष्यति ll

{Bhavishya Phala Bhaskara, Graha Yoga Prakaranam, Page 28, Stanza number 5}

As per a Hindi classical text Bhavishya Phala Bhaskara if Jupiter is in fast moving motion and Saturn is retrograde in transit then water which holds the earth don’t become visible i.e. it destroys the rainfall during that season.

In the second half of July there could be a cloud burst and landslide tragedy in hilly states of North India.

Mars in Virgo will create an obstruction in rainfall after 28th of July.

The transiting Mars will enter into Virgo sign on the 28th of July which is a dry sign. Virgo signify the Southern peninsular. In the month of August there will be less than normal rainfall in many parts of the South Indian states particularly in Karnataka.

Destruction foresee due to earthquake and landslides

In the month of August around the Full Moon of 9th of August there could be a landslide or a medium range earthquake in hilly areas of North India giving losses of lives and properties. Later a total lunar eclipse on the night of 7/8 September can bring two earthquake measuring 7 or more at Richter scale in the areas of North India, Pakistan and Afghanistan Hindu Kush region.

So, overall, the rainfall during the south-west monsoon shall be 90 to 95% of the long period average. The states of Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka may get less than normal rainfall this year. During 9th of July to 30th of August there will be less than normal rainfall in most parts of the country this year. In the month of September there will be dryness and less rainfall in southern peninsular, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka region.
