Naveen Patnaik, who became the Chief Minister of Odisha for the first time in March 2000, has been in power in the state for the last 24 years by winning five consecutive assembly elections. Initially, by staying in NDA and getting the support of Bharatiya Janata Party, Naveen Patnaik first joined Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government. He served as a minister at the Center and later became the Chief Minister of the state.
