Turkey is going for the polls to elect its president and parliamentarian’s on the 14th of May. Early this year country has suffered from a devastated earthquake  on the 6th of February which was the largest in Turkey since 1939. The earthquake measuring 7.8 at rector scale took the lives of more than 50,000 peoples in Turkey and more than 7000 in Syria. The country is holding an important election which is foreseen as the best chance for the opposition parties to unseat Tayyip Erdogan and end his 20 year long rule. Erdogan  has held the position of Prime Minister (2003 to 2014) and then  President from  2014 is now  seeking for another reelection to extend his rule to the third decade. The Capricorn (Makar) lagna horoscope of Tayyip Erdogan is an interesting study where Maha Dasha of Rahu is about to come on the 16th of May just about the time when the elections results will come.

The six opposition parties of Turkey has united around senior leader Kemal Kilicadaroglu who has been leader of the main opposition party of the country since 2010. Erdogan comes from an Islamic political background who is known for promoting socially conservative and populist policies during his administration. He has been widely criticized for Turkey’s economic downturn, centralization of power, erosion of civil rights and freedom in the country. As per the book ‘Secularism and Muslim Democracy in Turkey’ by historian M. Hakan Yavuz the birth of Erdogan took place at Guneysu village in Rize district of Turkey. Later the family of Erdogan moved to a poor neighborhood of Istanbul. In casting the horoscope of Erdogan, I have taken the place of birth as Guneysu unlike many other astrological websites which gave his birth place as Istanbul which is not correct.

In 1994 local elections Erdogan was elected as the Mayor  of Istanbul when he was under Venus Dasha and Saturn Anter Dasha. In Venus Dasha and Mercury Anter Dasha in 1997 Erdogan was stripped from the post of Mayor for inciting religious hatred. In the same Venus Dasha and Mercury Anter Dasha he was imprisoned for four month when a court found him guilty in September 1998. It was Venus-Mercury-Jupiter period when Erdogan was imprisoned. Venus and Mercury are getting bad aspect of Mars. The sub-sub period lord Jupiter which is 12th lord is also afflicted by aspect of Mars. In Erdogan’s horoscope the 12th house has Rahu getting the 3rd aspect of Saturn. In his chart 12th lord Jupiter is in mutual aspect with Moon and Mars both in Sarpa Dreshkana.

Rise of Erdogan in Maha Dasha of Sun and Moon

Erdogan later formed his political party in year 2001 during Maha Dasha of Sun. In March  2003 he had become the Prime Minister of Turkey when he was under Dasha of Sun and Anter Dasha of Saturn . The  Sun is in the 2^nd house along with benefic Venus and Mercury. His party won elections in 2007 and in 2011 again when Erdogan was passing under Dasha of Moon (May 2006 to May 2016) which is placed in the 11^th house of gains with Vargottama strength.The Jaimini Chara Dasha of Taurus was running from February 2002 to February 2011. The 10th house from Taurus has Amatayakaraka Venus getting Jaimini aspect of Matrikaraka (throne  of the ruler) Saturn which is exalted in Libra. A favorable Jaimini Chara Dasha helped him to get landsliding victories in consecutive elections.

In Dasha of Mars (May 2016 to May 2023) he tightened his grip over the democratic institutions in the country after making a constitution amendment which made the office of President more powerful than the national assembly and Prime Minister. During the Dasha of Mars the dictatorial powers of Erdogan increased but he also had to face public unrest on the issue of inflation and economic downtrend in the country due to COVID situation. In Mars Dasha and Moon Anter Dasha (15 October 2022 to 15 May 2023) Erdogan is facing the biggest challenge of his political life in the aftermath of devastating earthquake his country has faced recently. Both Mars and Moon are in Sarpa Deshkana.  Mars is functional malefic for his Capricorn lagna chart and Moon is a ‘Maraka Planet’ for him.

Unfavorable Rahu Dasha

Now at the time of elections in Turkey the Dasha of Rahu will be in operation in the horoscope of Erdogan. Rahu is in the 12^th house of losses in the Capricorn lagna chart of Erdogan. Rahu is involve in a Nakshatra exchange with 8^th lord Sun. Although Rahu is Vargottama but since its Dasha starts only on the 15^th of May this year and in its own Anter Dasha  it is not expected to give good results as per a famous rule of ‘Laghu Parashari’. In transit Saturn from Aquarius would be in the 4^th from his natal Moon which is in Scorpio. So, an unfavorable ‘Kantaka Shani’ Gochar will also give him a setback. Erdogan is likely to lost this election and his party will be ousted from power in Turkey.

As per the Jaimini system Erdogan is under the Chara Dasha of Pisces since February 2018. Pisces is the 8th house from his Karakamsha lagna which is Leo. Pisces sign has 3 planets, including Amatayakaraka Venus, in the 12th house from it showing losses for Erdogan. The sub period of Libra would be running from February 2023 to December 2023. Libra is the 8th house from Dasha Rashi Pisces and it is the 6th house from his Atamakaraka Jupiter so this sub period  shows struggle for Erdogan. The  horoscope of Turkey is set for the time when country’s National Assembly  voted for the foundation of the Republic with Mustafa Kemal as the first President. Turkey, now officially Republic of Turkiya,  is an early  member of NATO group, European Union,  and its economy currently rank 20^th largest in the world by nominal GDP. As per the world bank report Turkey made great economic progress during 1993 to 2010 when her middle-class population rose from 13% to 43%. Interestingly during this period, the Dasha of Ketu (1993 to 2000) and Venus (2000 onwards) was under operation in the horoscope of Turkey Republic. The transit Jupiter in Pisces has also activated the 10^th house of power. Saturn from Aquarius in transit at present  is giving aspect to the natal 10^th lord Jupiter in Turkey’s horoscope. So, the double transit phenomena of Saturn and Jupiter has influenced the 10^th house of power in Turkey’s horoscope. The Dasha of Sun and Anter Dasha  of Saturn would be running from January 2023 to December 2023 which can bring a radical political revolution through in Turkey during this year. Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party can suffer a surprise defeat in the upcoming elections.

After the elections in Turkey the new government will make radical changes in the administration of the country by reducing the powers of the office of President. Erdogan is also likely to take retirement any time during the next 2 years as his Maha Dasha of Rahu in the 12th house and transit of Saturn in the 4th house from his natal Moon is a clear astrological indication for the ‘Sun set’ of his career.
