As per the astro-meteorology texts Jupiter, Venus, the Moon and Mercury are watery planets only. The favorable disposition of these planets bring colder than the normal weather in winter season. The classical texts of astro-meteorology mentions Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces and Capricorn as watery signs only. During the winter season in 2024-25 Mars will remain in Cancer sign only due to its retrograde motion. Mars normally remains in a Rashi for about 45 days only but after every 2.5 years it become retrograde and then stays for about 6 months in a Rashi. As per Chitra Paksha Lahiri Ayanamsha Mars has come to Cancer sign on the 20th of October in 2024 and it become retrograde there on the 6th of December.
Now Mars will move back to Gemini on the 21st of January 2025 in retrograde motion. Then it will become direct on the 24th of February 2025. So, during the entire winter season (November to February) Mars will remain most of the time in watery sign Cancer only. On this basis i had forecasted a record breaking cold and rainy winter season in 2024-25 season in my article in the December 2024 issue of the Express Star Teller Magazine.
The winter season will be longer than the normal in North America also as Mars will move into Gemini sign on the 21st of January 2025 and it will remain in this sign till the first week of April 2025. The temperature in the USA will be colder than the normal from the end of January to the end of March in 2025. Since Zodiacal sign Cancer signify China so a record breaking cold wave will be foreseen in China during mid of December to mid of January during the winter season.

At present the transiting Jupiter is in Taurus which is in mutual opposition with Mercury which is in watery sign Scorpio. This yoga is likely to bring colder than the normal weather for the season. Till 4th of January Mercury will be in watery sign Scorpio only which will bring more than the normal snowfall in the hilly areas of Himalayas.
On the eve of New year i.e. on the 31st of December 2024 it is Amavasya day and we have a mutual opposition of Jupiter and Mercury. This yoga bring very good snowfall in the hilly states of Himalayas and some light rain may come in North and Central parts of India around the beginning of New Year in 2025.
Later during 4th of January to 24th of January Mercury will be in Sagittarius in ‘Atichari’ (fast moving) motion which will bring record breaking cold wave during the month of January 2025.

On the day of Makar Samkranti the Moon will be in Cancer sign along with retrograde Mars which shows older than the normal temperate around the day of Purnima (full Moon) then. The weather will be colder than the normal in the second half of January month in 2025 in most parts of North, Central and Western States of India. There will be some relief from the cold wave after 21st of January when Mars will move into Gemini in the retrograde motion but it will bring some unseasonal rain in many states like Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh etc.
During 24th of January 2025 to 11th of February 2025 the transit of Mercury will be in Capricorn sign which will bring unseasonal rainfall in many parts of North and Central India. The hailstorms can be damaging for the wheat crops in many parts of North and Central India in the month of February. The hailstorms during 24th of January to 11th of February may destroy crops in many parts of Madhya Pradesh, North Maharashtra, and Western UP.
