The danger posed by the network of Sunni extremists sweeping through Iraq and Syria has not only humiliated the Middle-East policy of US and its allies but it has also posed a perceived danger to the security of Israel. The Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) has pledged to take Telaviv and Jerusalem, and to “liberate Palestine” as part of its campaign. A terrorist organization Hamas is also threatening Israel of dare consequences. A year and half ago Israel had started an armed campaign ‘Operation Protective Edge’ against in the Hamas governed Gaza strip.
Interestingly Israel, US , Canada, European Union , Japan , Egypt and Jordan classify Hamas as a terrorist organization while the Iran , Russia, Turkey , China and many nations across the Arab world do not. Hamas, which was founded in 1987, is governing the Gaza strip area since year 2007 when it won the majority of seats in the Palestine Legislative elections held on 25 January 2006 defeating the the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) afflicted ‘Fatah’ political party. However the national unity Palestine government formed by Hamas then was collapsed when a violent conflict erupted between the Hamas and Fatah in the Gaza strip area. After the Gaza strip was taken over by Hamas on 14 June 2007, the Chairman of Palestine authority dismissed the Hamas lead government and appointed Salam Fayyad as new Prime Minister. Although the Palestine Authority claim over the entire Palestine territories but the Hamas control over Gaza strip area means that its authority is de facto limited to West Bank area only.
Since 2007, the Palestinian Authority has continued to oversee the Palestinian territories in the West Bank, while the Hamas government has continued to control the Gaza Strip. So Palestine people have been divided into three territories; Israeli occupied Palestinian areas, West Bank governed by Palestinian Authority and the Gaza Strip area controlled by Hamas. In year 2011 the Egypt tried to reconcile between the West Bank and Gaza governments. This agreement was signed in Cairo in year 2011 , and was rectified by the 2012 Hamas-Fatah Doha agreement. But due to the post effects of Arab Spring of 2011-12 and the crisis in Syria the agreement had been failed to get executed.
