– “here lies a sleeping giant (lion in other versions), let him sleep, for when he wakes up, he will shock the world”- Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon in 1803 (before he become emperor) is said to have pointed to the map of China and said the above famous quote of his. The above prophecy of Napoleon has come out absolutely true as what we can see now that China has not only become a fastest growing economy in the world , but is also challenging the military supremacy of USA and thus changing the world order by shifting the global power towards Asia from the West.
From its establishment in 1949, the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) is a single party socialist state. Mao Zedong (also transliterated as Mao Tse-tung ) , the founding father of country, as the chairman of the Communist Part of China (from 1949 to until his death in 1976) nationalized industry and agricultural under the state ownership and initiated socialist reforms in all the areas of Chinese society. The political ideology, basically it was Marxists- Leninist, and military strategies of Mao Zedong is now collectively know as Maoism. He ruled the country with iron hand crushing his opponents and coercively implementing his socio-economic schemes which known as the “Great Leap forward” (1958-63) and the “Cultural Revolution” ( 1966 -76) resulting in starvation deaths and forceful mass movement of millions with in the country. Mao Zedong violently removed the capitalist and traditionalist elements from the Chinese society and imposed his Maoist brand of orthodoxy with in the party as well as in the whole country. At one time it looked like that China had been paralyzed politically and economically though Mao was keep on promising his people “All that West has, China will have”….. But then two years after his death, Deng Xiaoping came as a reformist in the Communist Party of China in 1979. Though Deng never took any formal position as the head of the state but it was his inspiration that initiated economic reforms and “open door” policy which liberalized the industry and business in China and launched her on the global scenario as a rising economic power of Asia. Deng developed special economic zones (SEZ) to attract foreign investors in the cheap labor market of China to set up manufacturing units. He also initiated the “one child policy” to control the population growth so there will be less pressure on country’s natural resources in future.
The successors of Deng continued his policies and soon it resulted in tremendous economic growth of the country, which considerably improved the standard of living of its people. China also invested big time in modernizing of its military which is the largest in the world in terms of numbers. The rising international stature of China forced United Kingdom to revert Hong Kong to it in 1997 and Macao was also reverted to China by Portugal two years later.
China started constructing hydropower dams on its rivers to fuel the energy needs for its booming economy. Its dam projects on Mekong river upper portion caused lots of adverse effects in the downstream nations in terms of scarcity of water level, especially in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Laos, where millions of people rely on the river for water, food, and transportation. China didn’t paid attention to the concern of its neighbors and is now building the dams on “Brahmaputra” , which is said to change the flow of the river and will lead to shortage of its water level in downstream nations India and Bangladesh.
China also improved its sea lines of communications through its “string of pearls” policy, the strategic maritime centers from Chinese main land to Sudan. China is building ports in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives and Somalia to dominate the strategic sea routs. Its Navy which was earlier playing the role of “brown water navy” , engaged in coastal defense only , has not started patrolling from the oil ports of Middle East to the shipping lanes of the Pacific.
This combination of miraculous economic growth of China, its assertive foreign policy and hegemonic attitude towards its neighbors did caused a “China threat” syndrome in the world. The Chinese leadership, realizing the urgency to calm down these concerns, put forward the thesis of “China’s peaceful rise” in year 2003 during the tenure of her premier Wen Jiabao.
Now we will see the horoscope of China from the astrological point of view to access whether it is a “threat” to the world peace or its rise as superpower will be peaceful as it claims. The foundation chart of the ‘Peoples Republic of China’ is taken from the book ‘Time Tested Techniques of Mundane Astrology’, by Vani Publications. The Peoples Republic of China was formally established on October 1, 1949 at 15:15 hrs , Peking (China).

Features of the foundation Chart of China
- The strong influence of Mars on the tenth house (governance) in Rashi chart, Navamsha and Dashamsha astrologically explain the “one party” totalitarian rule in the People’s Republic of China since its inception. The placement of Mars in the seventh house of war in the Rashi chart also explains the war mongering tendencies of China. Since its inception in 1949 the country has fought in Korean war (1950-53) , Sino-Indian war ( end of 1962) and Sino-Vietnamese war (early 1979).
- The People’s Republic of China was under the Vimshottari dasha of seventh lord Moon (1949 – 1959) and Mars (1959- 1966) , which is placed in the seventh house of war, in its early years. Its foreign policy was hostile towards its neighbors as it forcefully acquired “Tibet” in the 50s and then attacked India in 1962 capturing miles of its land.
- During the Maha dasha of Vargottama Jupiter (1984 to 2000) , placed in the twelfth house , the ‘ Open Door Policy’ initiated by Deng Xiaoping started showing its fruitful results and the economy of the country was set into motion to attract huge foreign investment . It was the period of modernization of Chinese industry as per the global standards and the country went on to the path of becoming ‘The world’s Factory’. The twelfth house in Mundane Astrology signify foreign investments also apart from its many other significations. Jupiter is also the third lord of commutations and transportations services in which China made tremendous investments during this dasha to promote trade and foreign investment in the country.
- The lagna lord Saturn placed in the eighth house in the Rashi chart shows why China remain closed for the world for so many decades and it still behave in unconventional and mysterious ways when it comes to international diplomacy. Apart from hidden things the eighth house in Mundane Astrology also signifies the scientific developments. As per the WIPO”s ‘World Intellectual Property Indicators’ the Chinese residents filed the most patents world wide in year 2012 and 2013. China at present is running with Vimshottari dasha of Saturn in the eighth house of scientific developments.
The lagan lord Saturn , which is falling in the eighth house from both lagna and Moon , is in the inimical sign in Rashi chart and in Navamsha it is the eleventh lord in the sixth house showing gains from enemies by involving in disputes. The hydropower projects it is making on the rivers originating from Tibet (Mekong and Brahmaputra), endeavors to dominate the crude oil and gas rich South-China Sea, infrastructure development in disputed Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, claim over East China sea Islets in Japan etc. are all going to be pursued more aggressively by China in the coming years of Saturn maha dasha. In Dashamsha the Saturn is in the second house of resources of the nations.
The Saturn-Moon ( 27 August 2011 to 28 March 2013) period was marked with Chinese assertive foreign policy towards claiming its territorial sovereignty on South-China Sea. This accelerated Chinese Navy’s confrontations in the South-China Sea area with the Navy of Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam in particular over the control of important shipping lanes and potential exploitation of crude oil and natural gas under the water of various parts of South-China sea region. Moon is the seventh lord in Rashi chart of China, which signifies foreign affairs and international disputes in Mundane Astrology apart from its many other significations . Moon is in the ascendant under the aspect from Mars in the Rashi chart of China as well as in the Navamsha chart which shows the aggressive mindset of Chinese leadership. Moon is also the seventh lord in Dashamsha chart and is placed in the twelfth house of the secret plots and maritime boundary of the country .The Sino-Japanese tensions in the East China Sea region also started building during this period.
In the Saturn-Mars ( 28 March 2013 to 7 May 2014) period China started carrying out military drills across the East and South China Seas which added to tensions with neighbors over territorial disputes in the region. Mars the sub period lord is placed in the seventh house of war in the foundation chart amply explains it . Mars is also giving its aspect to the seventh house from maha- dasha lord Saturn. On 23 November, 2013 the China set up the “East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone” , which include disputed ‘Senkaku’ Islands, and announced that it would require all aircraft entering the zone to file a flight plane and submit radio frequency information. This ignited Japan further and at one point there was a risk of a diplomatic crisis in Sino-Japanese relations.
The incursion of Chinese army along the Line of Actual Control (LOC) with India also increased during this Saturn-Mars period. On 15 April, 2013 a 50 member platoon of Chinese army set up a camp in 30 Km south of Daulat Beg Oldi near the Aksai Chin-Ladakh LOC. India also responded quickly by encampment just 300 meters away from Chinese intruding forces. The dispute was resolved on 5 May after negotiations and both sides withdraw.
On 10 January, 2014 during this Saturn-Mars period in Vimshottari, China imposed a ‘fishing-permit’ rule in the South-China Sea, over the objections of the United States, Philippines and Vietnam. During this period the Chinese incursions in the East-China sea area near the disputed ‘Senkaku Islands’ in Japan also increased.
On March 30, 2014 the Philippines field a cased in the International court and south United Nations arbitrations in its maritime spat with China in the South China Sea region.
Now at present China is running with Saturn-Rahu ( 7 May 2014 to 13 March 2017) period in its foundation chart. Rahu is placed in the third house, which in Mundane Astrology signifies neighboring countries, border clashes and armed forces along with many other significations. Rahu is also receiving the aspect of sixth and ninth lord Mercury and eighth lord Sun , which indicate the acceleration of an international dispute during its dasha period. Noticeable point here is that Saturn and Rahu, both the dasha lords, are in 6/8 position in the Rashi chart as well as in the Navamsha chart which is an ominous sign. In Dashamsha Rahu is in the sixth house of territorial wars.
In Chara dasha the period of Cancer-Sagittarius ( 01 October 2014 to 01 April 2015) also indicates the same. Cancer is the seventh house of war in the Rashi chart. Sagittarius, the rashi of dangers, has the Atamakaraka Jupiter placed in it. Sagittarius is also the rashi of Karakamsha and is under the aspect of Ganatikaraka and the Rahu , which it self make it potent for creating dangerous disputes during this period.
On 8 October 2014, a Total Lunar eclipse will fall over the Pisces rashi over the natal position of Rahu in the foundation chart of China. At the time of this Lunar eclipse, Rahu and Ketu will be transiting at 25 degrees in the Virgo and Pisces rashi’s respectively. Interestingly Rahu and Ketu in transit will be close to their natal degrees in the horoscope of China. This Lunar eclipse will be followed by a Partial Solar eclipse on 23rd of October 2014.
The eclipse point in Pisces rashi will get ignited by the aspect of Mars transiting from Sagittarius rashi at the same degrees (25 degrees) on the 21st of November 2014. So around this date China may increase its incursions in the disputed territories of land borders as well as across the maritime boundaries of its neighboring countries. In Vimshottari the the sub-sub period of Jupiter will be running then. During the Saturn-Rahu-Jupiter ( 10 October 2014 to 26 February 2015) period China will initiate more military exercise and aggressive patrolling across the disputed regions to put strategic pressure on its neighboring countries.
A Total Solar eclipse of 20 March 2015 followed by Total Lunar eclipse of 4 April 2015 will be very crucial for China. The Solar eclipse will be in the Pisces rashi and the lunar eclipse will fall in Virgo rashi. At the time of these eclipses, Rahu and Ketu will reach at the 15 degrees in transit which will be extremely closed to the degrees of the eighth lord Sun in the foundation chart of China. As per a research of my astrologer friend Mr. Anil Aggarawala the malefic planets transiting over the natal position of the eighth lord in the foundation chart of a country can bring catastrophic event for that country. Mars will also be transiting from Pisces rashi at the time of lunar eclipse. So in the month of April 2015 and than around 7 July 2015, when Mars will trigger the eclipse point in Virgo by giving its aspect from Gemini rashi in transit, the China will become hostile towards its neighboring countries and there is also a danger of a natural calamity affecting the country. The dasha in Vimshottari will be of Saturn-Rahu-Saturn ( 26 February 2015 to 09 August 2015) at that time is self explanatory .
During this Saturn-Rahu-Saturn period in the foundation chart of China there will be some skirmishes of the Chinese army and navy with its neighboring countries but there will not be any territorial war. The tensions build during this period will be like an ammunition dump which will get ignited in year 2016.
The China will involve in a war after the Total Solar eclipse of 9 March 2016. At that time country will be running an enigmatic Saturn-Rahu-Venus period in Vimshottari. Interested students of Mundane Astrology can cast the solar eclipse chart of 9 March 2016, 09:54 hrs, Peking (China) and then superimpose the planetary transit of that day on the foundation chart of China to see the affliction along with 2/8 axis.
The foundation chart of India, USA, Philippines and Japan also shows that these countries can be at loggerhead with China in year 2016. Later there will be a big war in year 2020 when the transiting Saturn and Jupiter will ingress the Capricorn sign at the natal Moon of China.
