Subramanian Swamy: the mystery man of Indian politics

Subramanian Swamy is well known for his illustrious academic career, market friendly views on economy , hard line views on Hindutava and anti-establishment stand. Swamy believes that India should abolish the income tax completely and do away with the participatory notes to stop corruption in foreign investments. His ideas on Indian economy are considered by many as highly impractical and ambiguous. He is famous as a mathematician, economist, lawyer and a politician in India. He was an advocate of free market economy during his days in Delhi School of Economics in 1968. His ideas on ‘free market’ were radical and totally opposite of the socialist views of then political leadership of Congress party. He dared the might of Indira Gandhi during the Emergency days ( 1975-77) and was never caught by the government agencies. He was the founder of ‘Janata Dal’ which swept Indira Gandhi out of power in the general elections of 1977. The horoscope of Subramanian Swamy is very interesting just like his own personality.

In the Leo (Simha) lagna horoscope of Subramanian Swamy the Sun-Mercury in the ascendant is making an excellent ‘Buddha-Aditya yoga’. The aspect of yogakaraka Mars on it gives strength to this yoga. This combination makes him a great scholar in mathematics and economics. The ‘Karakamsha lagna’ here is Sagittarius (Dhanu) from where Mars in the 2nd house and Ketu-Saturn in the 5th house receiving the aspects of Sun-Mercury also shows higher level of logical ability and intellect. Mars in the 2nd house from Karakamsha also gives good knowledge of law.

The Karakamsha lagna Dhanu receiving the Jaimini aspect of Moon, Venus and Jupiter makes him a very good author. From the Janma lagna the Jupiter is the lord of 5th house in mutual aspect with Moon and Venus placed in the 2nd house. The 5th house gives authorship and the 2nd house gives speech. In Navamsha also the Jupiter is conjoined with the 5th lord and aspect the 2nd house. This yoga makes Subramanian Swamy an eloquent speaker and a author of many books.

Also notice here the mutual aspect between the Mars and Saturn in his chart. The 6th lord Saturn and the 9th lord Mars are in exchange also which is a combination of becoming an enemy with persons in high authority. Subramanian Swamy has fought battles in courts with Gandhi’s, Jayalalitha and some high government institutions. This exchange between the Saturn and Mars is also a yoga which make one prone to accidents and injuries. The Mars here is the lord of 4th house vehicles which is in the 6th house receiving the aspect of 6th lord Saturn which is in conjunction with Ketu.

Now in the dasha of Mercury-Saturn from April 2017 to December 2019 there would be danger to Subramanian Swamy from an injury in some accident. Mercury and Saturn both are ‘Maraka’ planets for the Leo lagna horoscope of Subramanian Swamy.

Let’s study some of the important events in the life of Subramanian Swamy from the astrological perspective.

Moon mahadasha till 15 December 1942

In the maha dasha of Moon which is conjoined with the 3rd lord Venus and is in mutual aspect with Jupiter the birth of younger brother of Subramanian Swamy took place. Moon as the lord of twelfth house also shows the movement of residence by his family. His father was a high ranking officer in the Indian Statistical Services. When Swamy was just 6 months old his family moved to Delhi due to his fathers job. Moon is also the lord of twelfth house in Chathurathamsha chart. In the Dwadamsha horoscope the Libra lagna rises and Moon there as the 10th lord conjoined with the 9th and 12th lord Mercury showing fathers transfer in job after his birth.

Mars Maha dasha from December 1942 to December 1949

During the dasha of Mars the birth of two younger sisters of Subramanian Swamy took place. Mars is the Karaka of younger co-born. The exalted Mars as the 9th lord also shows higher status of his father who became friend with national leaders like K.Kamaraj, C. Rajagopalachari and S. Satyamurti.

Rahu Maha dasha from December 1949 to December 1967

In the 18 years long Rahu maha dasha Subramanian Swamy achieved great academic success. He went to study in Harvard University in 1963 during Rahu-Venus dasha and received his PhD in Economics in 1965 ( Rahu-Moon) period. The depositor of Rahu is Venus which is conjoined with the 12th lord Moon and in mutual aspect with 5th lord Jupiter shows his achievements in higher education in foreign land. During his study days at Harvard he met an Indian Parsi lady Roxna and fall in love with her. They married in June 1966 when Swamy was passing through his Rahu-Moon dasha in Vimshottari.

Rahu in mutual aspect with 7th lord Saturn and the Moon in conjunction with Venus astrologically explain this love marriage. A Tamil Brahmin Swamy marring a Parsi lady Roxna was highly unconventional during those days. The 7th lord Saturn debliated and is in Rahu-Ketu axis shows this unorthodox marriage of Swamy.

Unconventional Marriage of Swamy’s younger daughter

The couple had two daughters both of them married to the son’s of high ranking government officers. The younger daughter Suhasini Hadiar a journalist married to Nadeem Hadiar, the son of former Indian foreign secretary Salman Hadiar. See the Saptamsha chart of Subramanian Swamy given above. In the Virgo lagna Saptamsha horoscope the exalted Venus at the 7th house receiving the aspect of Jupiter shows marriages of Swamy’s daughters in reputed families. The 7th lord Jupiter in Saptamsha is in Rahu-Ketu axis shows the unconventional marriage of Swamy’s one of the daughter.

Jupiter maha dasha from December 1967 to December 1983

Swamy came back to India and joined the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) , Delhi in 1969 as a full time professor in Mathematical Economics. He was removed by the board of directors of IIT in 1970 after Indira Gandhi took notes of Swamy’s ideas on ‘free market economy’ to dismiss them as ‘Santa Claus with Unrealistic ideas’. It was Jupiter-Saturn period in the horoscope of Swamy. He challenged his dismissal from the post of professor in the court of law. After fighting the case for 22 years he won and got reinstated in year 1991.

By early 1970’s Swamy had become popular in Delhi political circle for his clashes against establishment. Jan Sangh stalwart Nana Ji Deshmukh took note of it and gave Swamy the Rajya Sabha seat from his party in 1974. It was the Jupiter-Mercury dasha in Swamy’s horoscope. Mercury is in the ascendant along with Sun in a good ‘Dhana Yoga’. In Dashamsha the Mercury is the lord of lagna in conjunction with 4th and 7th lord Jupiter. This was the beginning of Swamy’s political career.

Subramanian Swamy’s daring act during Emergency

Later in June 1975 when Indira Gandhi imposed the emergency the Swamy was few among those leaders who were not been able to get caught by the government agencies despite being best of their efforts. It was the Jupiter-Venus period in the horoscope of Subramanian Swamy when he successfully evaded the arrest warrants for the entire 19 months period during the emergency ( 1975 to 1977). In the Rashi chart the anter dasha lord Venus is conjoined with the 12th lord Moon and they are in mutual aspect with the benefic Jupiter. In Dashamsha the Venus is again with the 12th lord. Swamy went to USA by using all his guile and guts in evading an arrest from the government agencies. The most daring act he committed during the emergency period was attending a parliament session on the 10th of June 1976 and then managing to escape from their and going back to USA even though an arrest warrant in his name was enforced. It is said that Swamy disguised himself in the getup of a Sikh and manage to make fool of government authorities wanted to arrest him.

Later in 1977 he was instrumental in forming the Janata Dal which defeated the mighty Indira Gandhi in the general elections. All this happen during the Jupiter-Venus period in Vimshottari which was the most eventful period in the life of Swamy.

Saturn Maha dasha from December 1983 to December 2002

In the 19 year long maha dasha of 6th and 7th lord Saturn Swamy become enemy with many famous political personality of the country and also held some very important position in the government offices in early 1990’s. Swamy was in good terms with Rajiv Gandhi and hailed him as the ‘only Hindu Neta’ in Congress. According to Swamy it was only Rajiv Gandhi and P.V. Narsimha Rao in the Congress who truly wanted from their heart that Ram Mandi should be constructed at Ayodhya. Swamy is known as a relentless critique of Nehru-Gandhi family.

Swamy was the cabinet minister for a brief period in the Chandra Shekhar government from November 1990 to June 1991 during his Saturn-Venus dasha in Vimshottari. It is said that during that period he prepare the blue print for the economic reforms in India which later was picked up by finance minister Manmohan Singh in the government of PV Narsimha Rao. Swamy was given the cabinet rank in 1994 by the Narsimha Rao who appointed him as the Chairman with Commission of Labor Standards and International Trade. This was the high point in Swamy’s political career as he was in the opposition party but still got the cabinet rank in Congress government of Narsimha Rao. This happen in Saturn-Sun Vimshottari dasha of Swamy. The Sun is strongly placed in the ascendant with Mercury.

Subramanian Swamy’s role in the fall of Vajpayee government in 1998

Subramanian Swamy had strained relationship with Atal Bihari Vajpayee since the days of Janata Party government in 1977. As per Swamy it was Vajpayee who stopped Morarji Desai from giving cabinet birth to him in the Janata Party government. Swamy also attack Vajpayee for giving a letter of apology to Indira Gandhi to come out of the prison on parole during emergency. Swamy claimed in his autobiography ” Though Charan Singh got a bad name for pulling down the Morarji Desai government but the real culprit were Vajpayee and Ramakrishna Hedge…….”.

Swamy took the revenge of it from Vajpayee when he engineered the fall of the first BJP led NDA government in 1998 that lasted for 13 days only. Swamy arranged a meeting of J Jayalalithaa and Sonia Gandhi to pursue the earlier for not supporting the NDA. It was the Vimshottari dasha of Saturn-Rahu in the horoscope of Subramanian Swamy. Notice here the bad aspect of Saturn in Rashi, Navamsha and Dashamsha charts. This astrologically explain the political conspiracy engineer by Swamy cleverly. But it cost him a lot as later in year 1999 the BJP won the general elections can came back into the power.

Vajpayee and later Lal Krishna Advani prevented Swamy from joining the BJP until August 2013 when Modi became the prime ministerial candidate for the party. It was Modi who took Swamy into the BJP though he did not gave him a berth in the cabinet which is quite understood.

Mercury maha dasha from December 2002 to December 2019

Swamy came into limelight in 2011 when Swamy filed a case in the Supreme Court to cancel the licences in 2G spectrum alleging corruption. Swamy got success in convincing the apex court in the matter which send the then telecom minister A. Raja to jail in 2012. It was during the Mercury-Mars dasha when Swamy become a hero in the anti corruption movement against the Congress government.

Swamy also filled corruption cases against J Jayalalithaa , Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi. He was succeed to make both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi appear before the court in ‘National Herald Scam’ case on 9 December 2015. It was the Mercury-Jupiter period in the horoscope of Subramanian Swamy.

Now Swamy is under the Mercury-Saturn dasha from April 2017 to December 2019 which shows that he is likely to get success in the court of law. Saturn and Mercury are both placed in trine. Both dasha lords are strong in Rashi and Dashamsha charts. Later the Ketu maha dasha will operate from December 2019. Ketu is in the 9th house of higher judiciary receiving the aspect of 9th lord Mars. Swamy is likely to get success in National Herald Case as well as in the Ayodhya Ram Temple case around 2020 when transiting Saturn and Jupiter would be in Capricorn (Makar) at the natal 9th lord Mars of his horoscope. But before that he may have to deal with some health issues, injuries and controversies as his Mercury-Saturn period shows.

Saturn in Sagittarius and impending danger of a global recession

In year 2016 the GDP growth rate of India was impressive at 7.1% which was slightly higher than China who’s economy was slowing down since 2014. The Chinese economy had register the annual growth of 6.7% in year 2016 which was the lowest since 1990. So last year Indian economy overtook China for the first time in terms of GDP growth rate. However, the demonetisation of higher denomination currency on the 8th of November 2016 and the poor implementation of GST (Goods & Services Tax) put Indian economy under stress. The GDP growth rate for the first quarter of financial year 2017-18 (April to June) was just 5.7% where as last year for the same period it was 7.9%. I had astrologically forewarned about the danger of a global slowdown in my article ” Forecasting Global Economic Trends in 2017″ which was published in the January 2017 issue of Express Star Teller Magazine.

The entry of Saturn into the Sagittarius sign will bring a slowdown in the global economy possibly due to a dangerous war in Korean peninsular. The Sagittarius is a war sign and the transit of Saturn from this rashi has historically brought major changes in the international politics.

. At the time of Great Depression of 1929 the Saturn was in Sagittarius. That great depression lasted from 1929 to 1939 and was ended at the beginning of the second world war. During this period ( 1929 to 1939) the consumer spending and investment dropped causing steep decline in the industrial output and rise in the unemployment. Before that the US economy was expending rapidly during 1920’s. The reckless speculation in the stock market was reached at the level of madness where everyone from the millionaire to the common laborer was putting his saving into stock exchange. The stock market reached at its peak in August 1929 but by then the industrial production was declining leaving stock prices much higher than their actual value.

Later on 24th of October 1929 the nervous investors started selling their shares in large numbers. In next one week more than 27 millions of shares were traded which swept the wall street and wiped out many investors completely. This trigger a great depression as the consumers confidence was vanished in the wake of stock market crash. The downturn in investment slowed down the production and business which affected the purchasing power due to fall in wages. This was the biggest recession in the history of the industrial world.

Now compare this with the current economic scenario of India where the Sensex is on fire and have risen 20% since the beginning of the year. The BSE sensex has gone from 26500 at the beginning of year 2017 to more than 32000 now in the mid of October. But despite the booming stock market the rate of job creation is extremely slow which is a dangerous trend.

Historically the transit of Saturn from Sagittarius has created problems for the central government in India.

For India the transit of Saturn from Sagittarius in 1989-90 was very disturbing. The country was struggling with religious, political and economic crisis. The ‘Ram temple movement’ by the BJP and the anti-corruption protests by the V.P. Singh on the issue of Bofors Scandal saw the fall of Rajiv Gandhi during the general elections of 1989. A minority government led by the V.P. was ruling the country struggling with economic crisis in which India had to airlift its national gold reserves as a pledge to the IMF (International Monetary Funds) in exchange for a loan to cover balance of payment debts. The prime minister V.P. Singh later had to resigned in November 1990 after a serious of protest in the country against the implementation of ‘Mandal Commission’ report giving 27% job reservations for the OBC (Other Backward Classes) in government jobs.

Interestingly during the last transit of Saturn from the Sagittarius sign the economy of China and India was started to become open for the world. The goal of ‘global economic liberalization’ propagated by USA was to make the economies more market and service-oriented and to expand the role of private and foreign investments. Now the rise of nationalist movements in Europe and Donald Trump’s policy of protectionism has started threatening the system of ‘economic liberalization’.

During the last transit of Saturn from Sagittarius in 1989-90 the cold war was ended after the collapse of USSR (Soviet Union). The countries of the Eastern Europe were liberated from the ‘Iron Curtain’ policy of Soviet Union. The world order started reshaping in favor of the USA which took other countries into its economic clout by forcing them to open their markets.

Saturn in Sagittarius and possible trade wars between the nations in 2018-19

The year 2018 and 2019 could be the year of ‘trade wars between the nations’ as per the astrological analysis of the foundation horoscopes of major countries of the world.

The political tensions between the USA, China, Japan and Russia may initiate a ‘trade war’ which can damage the global economy very seriously. The issue of North Korea, South-China-Sea dispute and Syria war is potentially dangerous in starting a new ‘cold war’ between major countries of the world. The transit of Saturn from the ‘war sign’ Sagittarius can bring ‘trade war’ between the nations.

Possible fall in the stock markets in the first fortnight of November 2017

The Saturn entering into the Sagittarius sign on the 26th of October may ignite a fall in the stock markets around the world. As per the ‘Sarvato Bhadra Chakra’ analysis the planet in Moola Nakshatra gives ‘Vedha’ to the Chitra Nakshatra. The malefic Saturn from Moola will afflict the Chitra Nakshatra which is a combination of rise in the gold prices. The Saturn in the fiery sign Libra will also reduce the production of the crude oil resulting the hike in its prices. The crude oil trading around $55 per barrel is likely to cross the mark of $80 very quickly.

The stock markets are likely to fall and the gold prices will increase during the first two months of Saturn transit from Sagittarius. The period of November and December in 2017 is very crucial from the point of view of global economy. Saturn in Sagittarius will be transiting through the Aries Navamsha and Jupiter from Libra will be in Capricorn Navamsha during the first fortnight of November 2017. This combination can trigger a collapse of stock markets around the world during the first fortnight of November 2017.

Forecasting North-East Monsoon 2017

The south-west monsoon season ( June-September) 2017 has ended with a normal but erratic rainfall. As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) the country received 841.3 millimeters (mm) of rain as against the long period average of 887. 5 mm which is just 5% short. If the rainfall is within 10% range of its long period average than the IMD consider it to be normal for the season. However, these number do not tell the full details as the patch distribution of rainfall has inflicted damage for the crops. As per a report published in the Hindu News Paper the monsoon in 2017 was quite whimsical.

I had forecast an erratic monsoon in my article “planets and trends of south-west monsoon in 2017”. This article was published in the June issue of Express Start Teller magazine.

This years monsoon had been particularly very erratic for the key food-bowl states like Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. While access rain in Gujarat ( 29% excess) and Rajasthan ( 8% excess) was surprising for both meteorologist and astrologers. A good rainfall in Gujarat is good for cotton and groundnut production. While deficient rain in Madhya Pradesh ( 20% deficient) and Haryana ( 26% below normal) is bad for wheat crops. Monsoon was 29% below normal in Uttar Pradesh and 22% short of normal for Punjab which is going to hamper the Kharif crops ( winter crops) this year.

Now the planetary indicators are showing that the north-east monsoon, which is crucial for southern peninsula, may fall short than the normal for year 2017. During 2015 the Tamil Nadu had received 53% excess rain with disastrous flood in Chennai which shocked the met department. Last year the north east monsoon season, from 1 October to 31st of December, was the driest in the last 150 years. Now this year with Saturn’s entry into Sagittarius it may remain just below normal as the solar ingress charts given below are suggesting.

At the time of solar ingress of Libra the Moon, Venus and Mars would be in Virgo. The sign Virgo signifies the areas of southern-peninsula as per the korma Chakra. The position of these three planets in the south direction is a good indication for a timely onset of north-east monsoon. The coastal areas of Andhra and Tamil Nadu will start getting rainfall from the middle of October this year. The conjunction of watery planets Mercury and Jupiter in the airy sign Libra is showing the possibility of strong wind in the coastal areas during the second fortnight of October.

Later in the first week of November the Mercury will move into watery sign Scorpio on the 1^st of November and Venus will move into Libra on the 2^nd of November. These two watery planets changing sign will bring more rain in the coastal district of southern states.

At the time of solar ingress of Scorpio the Saturn will be in fiery rashi Sagittarius and in fiery navamsha Aries which is not good for rainfall. The aspect of Mars on Saturn will give less rainfall during the second half November 2017. The interior district of southern-states particularly in Tamil Nadu will get less than normal rainfall. The Venus-Jupiter conjunction in Libra will give strong winds and rain in the coast areas though.

Later the Venus-Sun conjunction in the sign Scorpio and Mars entering into Libra will give good rainfall during the first week of December in the interior of Tamil Nadu and also in its capital Chennai.

In the last fortnight of December the close conjunction of Sun-Saturn and the Mars-Jupiter will give less rainfall during the north-east monsoon season. The Sun-Saturn in the fiery rashi Sagittarius gives more than normal temperature. The Jupiter-Mars conjunction is also a combination of producing higher temperature and less rains as per the astro-meteorological texts. So in year 2017 may give less than normal rainfall during the north-east monsoon season.

Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections in 2017

The assembly elections in the states of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh are scheduled to be held by the end of this year. The terms for the legislative assemblies of these two stats are going to end in the January 2018 so the polls must be conducted by the election commission before that period. Gujarat is particularly very crucial for the BJP as it is the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Although the polls surveys and political experts are of the opinion that BJP is likely to sweep the Gujarat assembly elections for the consecutive sixth time in a row but the planetary indications in the horoscope of Gujarat states are showing different results. I had written on this subject for the website of Hindi News Paper Amar Ujala and in the astrology magazine Express Star Teller earlier in 2015 after ‘Patidar’ agitation took place . As per my analysis these elections will break the myth of ‘Gujarat Model’ of Modi which was highly propagated during the general elections of 2014.

The BJP is in power in the Gujarat state since 1995 and they have almost decimated Congress party at all levels. But now the horoscope of Gujarat states shows that there are good chances for the Congress party to turn the tables though an electoral tsunami.

The Congress party has started attacking the policies of Modi government on the ground of growing unemployment and economic slow down. The debacle in implementing the demonetization and GST (Goods and Services Tax) has given a dent to the image of Narendra Modi in the recent past. Now the BJP is facing the attack from within as its veteran leaders Arun Shourie and Yashwant Sinha had criticized the policies of the government. Earlier BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy has warned that ‘Indian economy is in a tailspin and may crash if Modi doesn’t follow urgent course correction’.

India’s GDP growth was 5.7% for the quarter from April to June in the current financial year. Earlier it was 6.1 % for January to March this year. Last year from April to June ( 2016) India’s GDP growth rate was 7.9% which is falling every quarter since Demonetization. Now in this background BJP is likely to face a big challenge when they will go for the assembly polls in Gujarat where an anti-incumbency is a big factor working against them.

Apart from the general elections in 2019 many important assembly polls like in Gujarat, Himachal, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chattishgarh etc. are going to take place in the next 2 years which will fall during this dasha period of Jupiter-Venus in the chart of Congress party. Since Venus as the 3rd and 8th lord is placed in the 10th house of power so the party is likely to make a come back with new strategy. As the lord of 3rd house Venus period will give increase the efforts of Congress leader in connecting with the masses. Being the lord of 8th house in the 10th house along with 6th lord Sun it shows change in party’s strategy and some controversies. The party vice president Rahul Gandhi has now started visiting Hindu temples which is a sign that party is again moving towards ‘soft Hindutava’.

After the debacle of Congress party in the general elections of 2014 a committee was formed under senior leader A.K. Antony which pointed out in its report that Congress party’s ‘anti Hindu’ image was one of the reason for polarization of votes in favor of BJP. Now when the transiting Saturn is going to come over the natal Sun of Congress party their image and perception is likely to change considerably. As per the Nadi text the transiting Saturn over the natal Sun can give changes in career. In horoscope of a political party this transit can give changes in the leadership and functionality of an organization. With Saturn’s entry into Sagittarius on the 26th of October the Rahu Gandhi might be promoted as the party president of Congress. The party under his leadership is likely to move towards the policy of ‘soft Hindutava’ to woo the majority community.

At the time of Gujarat and Himachal assembly polls the period of Jupiter-Venus-Mars will be in operation from 2 November 2017 to 29 December 2017. Since Mars is the lord of 9th house of luck but it is in 6/8 position from the sub period lord Venus so there will be mix results for the Congress party during these elections. The party may win the Gujarat assembly polls but may loose in Himachal where its veteran leader Virbhadra Singh is facing income tax cases and anti-incumbency together as a tough challenge.

In the Mithuna (Gemini) lagna horoscope of BJP the Chiddra Dasha of Sun-Venus is running from April 2017 to April 2018. Later the dasha period of Moon trapped in Kemadruma yoga will start. This period for the BJP will be lots of dissent in the party against its leadership. The Sun is in Mrityu-Bhagh at the 10th house during its period the power in the party was centralized. The duo of Modi and Shah have been completely dominating the organization and the government at the center. But now the things are likely to change during the upcoming dasha of Moon, from April 2018, which is in Kemadruma yoga.

Now the Congress can mobilized the growing dissent against Modi’s policies in Gujarat in its favor. The transit of Saturn from Sagittarius will give its 10th aspect to the Virgo the 10th house of Gujarat state signalling a change in regime. Congress may pull-off a surprise win in Gujarat which will be a huge setback for prime minister Narendar Modi.
